Hazel Sinclair stared in astonishment at the man squatting in front of her.

‘An overbearing CEO can apologize to people?’

As a woman who was only in it for the money, Hazel Sinclair immediately shot back.

“I don’t want your apology.

I want money.

Enough money to make Evelyn Kendrick shut her mouth.”

Hearing Hazel’s words, Leon Sterling fell silent once more.

Seeing him go quiet, Hazel immediately started complaining to the system.

‘See?

He just clams up whenever he gets a difficult question.’

Lying on the five-foot bed, Hazel Sinclair leaned against the headboard, scrolling through a second-hand marketplace app.

A dress worth eight hundred was only selling for four hundred on the second-hand market?

That was way too little.

She’d only worn that dress once since she got it; the tag was still on.

Thoroughly displeased, Hazel Sinclair exited the app and opened WhatsApp to check the message from Evelyn Kendrick.

[Evelyn Kendrick: My fiancé took me to an auction today and won me the biggest gemstone there.]

[6 Images]

Among the six photos was a picture of Evelyn Kendrick with her fiancé, and another of her wearing the huge emerald, a perfectly tailored gown, and a smile on her face as she held a wine glass.

Basically, she was just showing off her wealth.

Hazel didn’t feel much of anything looking at the pictures.

Before she transmigrated into this book, she was a broke nobody.

She worked diligently every month, and after paying rent and utilities and sending a thousand back home, there wasn’t much left of her salary.

[Hazel Sinclair: That gem doesn’t match your dress today.]

A reply came back instantly.

[Evelyn Kendrick: Are you jealous?]

[Evelyn Kendrick: Jealous that my fiancé spent five million to buy me this emerald?]

Hazel’s eyes widened when she saw that message.

This necklace… five million!

So expensive!

[Evelyn Kendrick: Too bad your husband is bankrupt.

You’ll never have anything like this in your life.]

[Evelyn Kendrick: This is all you’ll ever amount to.]

‘Damn it, she’s provoking me again.’

The more Hazel thought about it, the angrier she got.

After a moment, a small smile curved her lips, and she began to type.

[Hazel Sinclair: You’re right.

So since you’re so rich, Miss Kendrick, how about you Venmo me a hundred thousand to prove it?]

[Hazel Sinclair: Sigh, my life is so hard.

My parents aren’t my real parents, the husband I married went bankrupt…

Please, Miss Kendrick, take pity on me.]

Evelyn Kendrick, who had been planning to show off to her former arch-nemesis, was stunned by the two messages.

‘Is Hazel Sinclair possessed?’

She wasn’t angry at all.

Instead, she was humbling herself and asking for pity.

[Evelyn Kendrick: Are you possessed?]

[Transfer successful: 100,000]

Hazel’s eyes went wide at the transfer amount.

Even though she was broke, she had still lucked into a fortune.

She immediately accepted the money and sent back a particularly sycophantic sticker.

Hazel glanced at her account balance: 103,871.39.

Suddenly rich, Hazel squirmed and wriggled wildly on the bed.

Standing by the bed, Leon Sterling watched her with a puzzled look in his eyes.

“What’s wrong?

Are your arms and legs itchy?” Leon Sterling asked, looking at her in confusion.

Hazel immediately composed herself, glanced at him, and said, “I’m just happy thinking about you buying me cake, flowers, and bubble tea tomorrow.”

Leon Sterling lay down on the bed, pulling the thin blanket over his navel.

The only electric fan in the room was placed next to Hazel.

In the quiet room, the only sounds were the whirring of the fan and the neighbors next door arguing about their child’s tuition fees.

Hazel slowly drifted off to sleep to the sound of the argument, treating it as a lullaby.

Watching her sleep, Leon Sterling took out his phone and started looking up the Black Swan cake Hazel wanted.

He could buy the flowers and bubble tea at a shop tomorrow, but not this cake.

Even the cheapest one cost a thousand.

He remembered how on her previous birthdays, her custom-made cakes would cost tens of thousands.

But now, he couldn’t even afford to buy Hazel the most expensive one.

Putting his phone away, Leon Sterling reached out and loosely pulled her into his embrace.

His eyes were filled with guilt as he looked at her.

Hazel slept soundly, even dreaming that she was a billionaire.

It was truly a good night’s sleep.

When she woke up, the space beside her was already empty.

Leon Sterling had already gone out to earn money.

Hazel got up to wash.

Standing in the bathroom, she grabbed her toothbrush and started brushing right away.

Leon Sterling was a bit of a traditionalist; he believed that Hazel had married him to enjoy life, not to be a maid.

Even though he was bankrupt now, Leon Sterling still took excellent care of her.

He would squeeze the toothpaste onto her brush in the morning and make breakfast for her to eat as soon as she sat at the table.

He’d order her takeout for lunch, buy groceries and cook dinner in the evening, and even did her laundry.

He kept their tiny rental apartment neat and tidy.

If the original owner of this body hadn’t been bound by the book’s plot, or if she hadn’t been the villainess, the two of them could have definitely built a happy and prosperous life together, even like this.

But alas, the original owner’s character was greedy and opportunistic, with impure motives and a low moral bottom line.

She would stop at nothing to return to the upper class.

Hazel ate the now-cool meat bun and drank the milk he had already put a straw in.

“Why can’t I just live a good life with Sterling?”

That man, Leon Sterling…

he looked slim with clothes on but was muscular underneath.

More importantly, he’d been wandering around in front of her in that old-school undershirt for seven days straight!

Those beautiful biceps, that face that looked like it was personally sculpted by a goddess, that rich, magnetic baritone voice…

and he had the nerve to wash her underwear with a deadpan, ascetic look on his face.

‘What woman could possibly resist that!’

[Character is forbidden from acting OOC.

Violations will result in electric shock punishment.]

The system recited the sixth prohibited article in a mechanical voice.

[So give up on that idea.]

[With your true personality, even showing a tiny bit of it would be completely OOC.]

Her mind was filled with nothing but money and dirty thoughts.

Every day after eating, she’d lie on the sofa, scrolling through videos of hot guys.

She never bothered to seduce any rich young masters.

Every time the system reminded her, Hazel would just shoot it down.

After finishing her milk, Hazel lay down on the sofa, opened her phone, tapped into a certain video app, and started watching hot guys doing suggestive dances.

“Tsk, what do you know?”

“The desire for money is something no one can escape.

As for hot guys…

that depends on the person.

Anyway, I’m just thirsty,” Hazel said with a sly grin.

While replying to the system, Hazel’s fingers tapped out a line of text on her screen.

[Hot guy, huff huff.]

Just as Hazel was getting engrossed, a video call from Leon Sterling came through.

It was completely unexpected.

It startled Hazel, who thought for a second she’d been caught secretly watching hot guys.

She answered the video call and saw Leon Sterling wearing a food delivery vest and a helmet.

He was sitting on the second-hand electric scooter, asking with a stern face, “What do you want for lunch?”
