The scene fell silent for a long moment.

Everyone stared blankly at Xu Mian’s face.

She was too exquisitely beautiful.Full novel: I Only Got a Divorce how Did I End up Becoming the White Moonlight — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her facial bone structure was superior, her features nearly theatrically perfect, with large, bright almond-shaped eyes and dark pupils.

Even from a meter away, one could see her long, curled lashes flutter lightly. When her gaze was direct, it felt cold and detached.

Yin Lai snapped out of his daze and pointed to Wang Zhen. “She’ll follow your shifts and you’ll guide her from now on.”

Xu Mian nodded. “Okay.”

No one had expected that the rumored rich heiress would be so beautiful and seemingly easy to deal with.

She just didn’t speak much.

Li Lai, standing next to Wang Zhen, glanced at her and chuckled. “I thought they’d send a rookie to make you look good, but instead, they sent a top-tier beauty. Wang Zhen, with your plump figure standing next to her, aren’t you embarrassed?”

Wang Zhen lowered her head even further.

The next moment, a pair of white sneakers stopped in front of her. A voice, cool and detached, said: “This is a hospital. If beauty could cure patients, you still wouldn’t meet the passing standard.”

Wang Zhen looked up in shock.

She saw Xu Mian standing opposite, her gaze indifferent as she looked at Li Lai.

Li Lai wanted to argue, but before Xu Mian’s flawless beauty, he swallowed his words.

“Wang Zhen, just take care of her. It’ll make your life easier later.”

Li Lai stormed off arrogantly.

Wang Zhen whispered, “Thank you.”

Xu Mian’s expression was calm. “The changing room is over there. And I’m not helping you I just dislike noise.”

She changed into a white coat. Wang Zhen introduced her to the hospital, but Xu Mian showed little reaction. She said, “Don’t worry about me. I’ll leave in a while. You focus on your own work.”

Wang Zhen immediately nodded.

The ER wasn’t particularly busy. Xu Mian glanced at the patients inside none were too difficult.

Wang Zhen, restless, said, “The hospital used to be doing well. I heard the original founder was Lin Yin. But after Lin Yin left, the new management only cared about money. Talent gradually left, and fewer patients came. I also heard that the hospital nearly went under, and they were thinking of selling it. Somehow, someone suddenly spent a fortune to buy it and also allocated a huge sum to upgrade the equipment.”

Xu Mian looked around. The devices were indeed old.

She put her hands in her pockets and casually remarked, “A hospital like this really has no reason to exist.”

After that, she didn’t speak much, simply following Wang Zhen and observing her handle simple tasks.

During lunch break, she was too lazy to eat and sat on a bench in the sun.

When the sunlight in front of her was blocked, she slowly opened her eyes.

She confirmed she didn’t know this person but when the person looked at her with almost obsessive eyes, Xu Mian couldn’t ignore it.

“If you like my face, sorry, my personality might not be pleasant. So… leave.”

Xie Yan was still holding a sandwich.

In the five years apart, he had imagined a hundred reunion scenarios, but never that Xu Mian would greet him by telling him to leave.

He looked disappointed, but smirked anyway. “Not going to eat?”

“This pick-up line has already been used by three people today,” Xu Mian said, pointing at the sandwich. “Also, I hate eggs.”

At this point, Xu Mian expected him to leave.

But he didn’t.

He remained patient and took out two large steaming buns from his million-dollar suit.

Xu Mian observed his carefully tailored outfit. He was handsome, admittedly.

She didn’t deny being a “face-lover,” and nodded, taking the buns.

Xie Yan was about to smile when Xu Mian said, “Anything else?”

Xie Yan thought: Five years apart… Xu Mian, your temper has gotten worse.

He also thought: But no worries, luckily my temper is good.

“I’m new at the hospital. Can we get acquainted? My name is Xie Yan.”

Xu Mian, eating a vegetarian bun, was in a better mood because it tasted good. She spoke deliberately, as calmly as she ate.

Xie Yan waited patiently. “Yes?”

Xu Mian glanced at him. “Your lapel pin, your designer suit, your impeccably polished shoes altogether, it’s enough to buy this hospital’s ER.”

So why are you here as an employee?

“What’s your intention coming to this hospital?” Xu Mian asked bluntly.

Xie Yan leaned back, sandwich in hand, legs casually apart, smiling. “So obvious, huh?”

Xu Mian finished the bun, stood up, crumpled the plastic bag, and tossed it in the trash.

As she left, she said: “Buns are cuter than people.”

At least the buns were tasty.

People? Not so much.

But that was none of her concern.

Xu Mian left decisively and efficiently.

That afternoon, Xie Yan stayed at that spot for a long time. As the sun set, Wang Hao came by to remind him.

Xie Yan reached out and touched the spot where Xu Mian had sat.

He whispered softly: “Wang Hao, do you know?”

“She’s really back.”

“She… spoke to me.”

Wang Hao, exasperated, went along: “Really? That’s great.”

Xie Yan added, “She said many things.”

“More than in the past five years.”

Wang Hao: “…” In the past five years, you haven’t seen Miss Xu.

When Xu Mian went home after work, she took the bus directly.

Wang Zhen was surprised: “Aren’t you a rich heiress? Why are you taking the bus like the rest of us?”

Xu Mian leaned against the seatback, looking at the sunset outside.

Flatly, plainly: “Not very spoiled.”

When Xie Yan, in his million-dollar suit, squeezed onto the bus, everyone went silent.

The driver almost forgot to start the vehicle.

Wang Zhen whispered to Xu Mian: “Did you know? This man is the new guy in General Affairs. Almost every unmarried girl in every department wants to see him. Li Lai even said he must be taken down.”

Xu Mian sat casually, her gaze drifting.

She saw the man in the expensive suit stand beside her, smiling. “Miss Xu, what a coincidence.”

Xu Mian realized:

This man came for her.

She crossed her arms and looked Xie Yan over and over, bluntly.

Wang Zhen couldn’t help but think: That gaze is way too blatant like she wants to strip the handsome guy bare.

“Want to play in showbiz?” Xu Mian asked after studying him.

Xie Yan blinked. His peach-blossom eyes seemed flirtatious. Several girls behind her gasped.

Xu Mian decided he had some means.

She grabbed paper and pen from Wang Zhen, wrote a string of numbers, and when she got off the bus, stuffed the small square note into Xie Yan’s suit pocket.

“Miss here hasn’t played in showbiz for a long time. She’s attractive here’s someone for you.”

Standing outside the bus, Xu Mian warned Xie Yan: “Don’t follow me.”
