Xu Mian was too lazy to respond.
Xu Die, however, wouldn’t let it go and blocked her path. “Xu Mian, Xie Yan belongs to me! Ever since I was little, whatever I wanted, Dad and Mom would give me. You only deserve what I don’t want.”
Xu Die looked at Xu Mian’s face so striking even without expression and felt the urge to tear it apart.
“But I’m telling you, even if I don’t want Xie Yan in the future, I won’t give him to you!”
Xu Mian lazily lifted her eyelids and glanced at Xu Die. Her gaze was calm, almost detached, carrying a faint appraisal.
Xu Die’s expression instantly changed. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Xu Mian smirked. “Then try me.”
With that, Xu Mian raised her hand and gently moved Xu Die, who was blocking her way, aside.
After Xu Mian changed her clothes and came out, Wang Zhen looked at her thoughtfully. Xu Mian leaned casually to the side, showing little expression.
Noticing someone’s gaze on her, Xu Mian coldly raised her eyelids. Wang Zhen quickly lowered his head, his heart skipping a beat.
When Xu Mian looked away, he stole another glance at her.
Lunch.
Xu Mian skipped the cafeteria and sat cross-legged, arrogantly basking in the sun. When someone sat nearby, she furrowed her brows.
“I made you a lunchbox. See if it’s to your liking.”
Xu Mian didn’t even look up. “Not to my liking.”
A soft laugh followed. “You haven’t even looked at it. How would you know? I made it myself.”
Xu Mian’s sharp gaze met him. “If I wanted to eat, I’d go to the cafeteria.”
Xie Yan went along smoothly, unfazed. “The cafeteria only serves lymph meat.”
Xu Mian frowned.
Xie Yan continued, “I picked everything myself pan-fried sablefish, crab already deshelled, thick slices of eel. Look.”
Xu Mian glanced, then accepted the lunchbox.
“I won’t be taking on new artists anytime soon, so if you don’t like Lisa, I can find a more experienced one for you. Within a year, you’ll be famous,” Xu Mian said bluntly.
Xie Yan watched her eat a crab leg and smiled. “Wow! So impressive. You even know when I’ll become famous?”
Xu Mian shrugged. “You’re good-looking. Becoming famous isn’t hard.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt the person next to her lean closer, eyes curling with a playful smile. “You think I’m good-looking?”
The distance was too close.
Xu Mian, annoyed, lifted her hand and pressed against Xie Yan’s shoulder, pushing him back slightly.
“Don’t come so close,” she warned coldly.
Xie Yan laughed, sat upright, lowered his gaze, and looked a little obedient from Xu Mian’s angle.
“I don’t want anyone else to manage me,” Xie Yan said. “I only want you.”
Xu Mian frowned, thinking this handsome guy was oddly annoying.
“I can wait,” Xie Yan said. “Whenever you want to manage me, just let me know. I want to be your first choice.”
He turned to her seriously. “Is that okay?”
Xie Yan’s eyes were beautiful, dark and deep. When they curved into a smile, they gave off a subtly seductive vibe.
Xu Mian paused, holding her chopsticks.
“Mm,” she said vaguely. “We’ll see when the time comes.”
“If you agree, I’ll bring you lunch every day. How about that?” Xie Yan offered the bait. “You don’t want the cafeteria’s lymph meat, do you?”
Xu Mian.
Just as the deal seemed set, a pair of pink high heels appeared in front of them.
“Sis,” Xu Die, dressed like a flamboyant peacock, called out. “Why are you eating here with Xie Yan? Didn’t you go to the cafeteria? I looked everywhere for you!”
Xu Die’s high-pitched voice made Xu Mian lose her appetite.
She handed back the lunchbox, stood, and left. Xie Yan sighed. Xu Mian waved and walked off.
Xu Die was overjoyed. Xu Mian was quite considerate. She quickly sat in Xu Mian’s former spot, ready to speak, holding the lunchbox she’d made early that morning.
“Xie”
Before she could finish, Xie Yan coldly stood up.
Xu Die froze.
She stared at Xie Yan’s expressionless face. “Xie Yan, I made this lunch myself!”
Xie Yan didn’t even glance at it. His cold expression made Xu Die shrink back. She didn’t understand he had been smiling just moments ago. How did it turn so icy so quickly?
“Xie Yan, you… like my sister?” Xu Die stood, head lowered, clutching her skirt. “Don’t be fooled by her pretty face. She’s not a good person. She opposes our parents at home and drives everyone crazy.”
Xu Die expected him to be surprised, but he remained cold, lifting a corner of his lips. “Oh? That’s kind of cool.”
Xu Die opened her mouth. “Xie Yan, I thought you weren’t the type to care only about looks, to be shallow.”
Xie Yan nodded. “Then you were wrong. I’ve always been shallow.”
His gaze swept over Xu Die’s face.
“And I intend to stay that way.”
With that, Xie Yan left, leaving Xu Die stunned.
When Li Lai approached, Xu Die bowed her head and sobbed.
“My sister is seducing Xie Yan. I told her it’s wrong to seduce men outside; it brings shame to our family. But she said it’s my fault for being powerless.”
Li Lai frowned. “Xu Die! Don’t be sad. I’ll get revenge for you! Tonight, we’re both on duty. Watch me I’ll make Xu Mian regret it!”
Xu Die covered her face with her hands, a faint smile curving at the corner of her lips where no one could see.
At Shen Yanci’s office.
Assistant Li Juan hurried in. “President Shen, we found Miss Xu!”
Shen Yanci jumped up so quickly that he knocked over his teacup. “Where is she?”
Previously, private investigators couldn’t find any information on Xu Mian in the database.
Li Juan smiled. “I sprained my foot at work today, so I went to a nearby hospital. Coincidentally, I saw Miss Xu! She was wearing a white coat seems like an ER doctor?”
Shen Yanci, initially ecstatic, froze at that.
Then, his brows furrowed tightly.
“You’re saying… you saw Xu Mian in the ER? She’s a doctor now?”
Li Juan, unsure what she had said wrong, nodded blankly. “Yes, is there a problem?”
Shen Yanci rolled his eyes and sat back.
“You must be mistaken. That’s not Xu Mian.”
Li Juan froze. “How can you know if you didn’t even see her?”
Shen Yanci leaned back. “Xu Mian dropped out of high school. What does she know about medicine? Besides, she made a name in showbiz. Everyone calls her ‘Sister Xu’ out of respect, even the arrogant Li Qingrun. If she wasn’t continuing in entertainment, how could she possibly be at a hospital?”
He shook his head. “Do you even believe the lies you’re telling?”
