The journey to the academy was intended for learning magic and discovering more about the world. Making friends was not one of his priorities, especially if doing so would require him to serve the interests of annoying, influential people.
He moved the glass away from his lips when he felt eyes following him.
Noah recognized the blonde girl standing in the middle of a group near the window. With her blue eyes and small mole near her lips, he recognized her immediately.
The girl he had seen near the bakery was the same one.
Their eyes met for a moment. She smiled at him, then returned to her conversation as if she hadn’t been watching him.
He gave it no importance and did not notice the girl quietly biting her lips.
After a short time, a plump boy separated from his group and approached him. He walked with more confidence than necessary, and his smile suggested that he had come bearing an irresistible offer.
He stopped in front of Noah.
"You are Noah Lupton Charlemagne, are you not?"
"Yes."
Noah waited for the boy to introduce himself, but he did not. Instead, he looked at Noah coldly as if he were looking at someone of the Lower Blood.
"My sister is interested in you."
Noah moved his eyes toward the blonde girl and understood several things.
She was still pretending to be occupied with those around her, but she stared at him from time to time.
What Noah did not expect was the boy’s next offer.
The boy’s smile widened.
"It does not have to be anything complicated. We will leave tomorrow, and we may not find a suitable time after the journey begins. The three of us can meet in one of the rooms tonight if you are interested."
"The three of us?"
"Yes, the three of us," the boy answered with a crooked smile on his face.
Noah looked at him silently, and cold sweat appeared on his back without him noticing.
Noah looked at the fat boy with disgust.
"And why would you be there?"
The boy laughed quietly.
"She is my sister, of course. I can’t leave her with someone I don’t know well."
His smile disappeared for a moment before returning.
"There’s no need to pretend to be stupid. No one will know what happens. We’re all of the Superior bloodline, and it won’t be a problem as long as it remains a secret."
Noah finally understood.
The boy was not acting as a mediator for his sister, nor was he trying to protect her. He wanted to be present and participate himself.
A tendency toward cuckoldry. How disgusting. It seemed that noble society was more disgusting than he had imagined.
The girl caught Noah’s gaze once more., and she continued to look at him, confirming her understanding of his proposal. He felt grossed out.
"I am not interested."
The boy’s smile froze.
"What?"
"You heard me. I am not interested."
Noah was not accustomed to matters like these and did not want to become involved. Perhaps he would have done so before his thinking changed toward pursuing power, but now what mainly interested him was developing himself and his own strength.
The fat boy’s expression turned to anger, but he did not dare raise his voice out of fear of being exposed. It was an offer he could not defend before the others. If Noah spoke about what he had said, the boy would pretend that Noah had misunderstood him. Neither of them was stupid.
"Fine, it does not matter..."
The boy turned and left, trying to keep his steps calm.
Noah watched him until he returned to his group. He approached his sister and whispered something in her ear. Her smile slowly changed.
Time passed quickly, and morning arrived before Noah had gotten enough sleep.
A servant knocked on the door and informed him that it was time to depart. Wearing his Charlemagne badge and carrying his ticket, Noah headed toward his assigned caravan.
The air was cold, and a light mist covered the ground between the horses’ feet. The carriages extended from the entrance of the house to the outer gate, and Charlemagne soldiers were positioned on both sides.
descendant of nobles boarded one by one according to the numbers on their badges.
Noah saw the plump boy near one of the carriages. His sister stood beside him. When Noah passed in front of them, his sister gave him an angry look before boarding without a word.
The boy smiled as if nothing had happened.
Noah ignored him and continued on his way.
He found his carriage near the front of the caravan, handed the guard his badge, and boarded. The guard examined the badge, then opened the door for Noah.
Noah’s boarding and sitting near the window followed.
The soldiers’ orders rose outside, and the carriage doors were closed one after another. After a few moments, the great gate of Charchal opened.
The commander of the guards raised his hand.
The horses moved, and the wheels of the caravan began to turn, leaving Charchal Imperial city heading toward the Magical Academy.
This is where the Nobles Arc comes to an end and the Caravan Arc begins. The journey to the Magical Academy will be short, but it will mark the start of a stage in Noah’s story.
