The three of them whipped around, only to see the girl they had targeted now standing right in front of them, gripping a longsword in her hand.

“You… when did you get here?”

Bai Xiaoxue ignored the question. She raised her sword and pointed it at them, her voice icy. “Who sent you?”Full novel: I Started With an Orphanage and Accidentally Raised a Legion of Peerless Empresses — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The three exchanged glances, reacting quickly. One of them snorted and said, “All together now! Three against one—we have the advantage!”

As soon as the words fell, spiritual Qi erupted from their bodies. They each summoned their weapons and charged toward Bai Xiaoxue.

Seeing this, Bai Xiaoxue snorted coldly and lunged forward with her sword. “Radiant Sword Technique!”

After days of bitter training and with a 999-times amplification, her swordsmanship had already become invincible among those below the Postnatal Realm!

Before one of them could even react, a flash of sword light struck him down on the spot!

“That’s… the peak of Qi Condensation?!”

The other two’s pupils shrank. Thirteen or fourteen years old and already at the peak of Qi Condensation—what kind of monster was this?!

She was supposed to have no cultivation base! This level of strength would be considered top-tier even among the great sects!

In their panic, both of them mentally cursed their boss’s ancestors.

“Shit, she’s too tough! Let’s run!”

They immediately turned to flee, but how could Bai Xiaoxue let them escape?

Her figure burst forward like a gust of wind, slashing down another of the attackers with a single strike.

The last man tried to run but was sliced across the leg, collapsing to the ground in agony.

“Please, little girl, have mercy! Spare me!”

Bai Xiaoxue walked toward him, her face completely cold—nothing like the shy girl Lin Yun knew.

“Why did you come to kill me?”

Feeling her murderous intent, the assassin quickly explained, “It wasn’t my idea! I’m just a trainee assassin from Blood Sword House! The boss sent us, said killing you would make us official members!”

“Your boss? He knows me?”

“I-I don’t know! I just follow orders. I don’t know anything else!”

“I see.”

With that, Bai Xiaoxue turned her sword around and finished him off.

Though she was kind by nature, she would show no mercy to those who tried to kill her.

“So this… is what killing feels like…”

Staring at the blood-soaked ground, Bai Xiaoxue felt slightly nauseated—but more than that, she felt an inexplicable thrill!

She imagined the day she would charge into the Zhao Family for revenge, and that thought filled her with joy.

Without realizing it, her smile gradually took on a twisted, yandere-like edge.

But soon, she noticed her skirt had been stained with blood, and her expression turned troubled. “Oh no… I got blood on my dress. The Director is going to scold me again…”

…

Inside Blood Sword House, the leader crushed the cup in his hand.

“What did you say? All three of them are dead?!”

“Yes. Judging from the residual scent and spiritual Qi at the scene, it was likely a female cultivator at the peak of Qi Condensation,” the black-clad man before him cautiously replied.

“Could it have been the target who did it?”

“Goddammit! Wasn’t she supposed to have no cultivation base?!”

The leader’s face twisted into a scowl. He quickly asked, “Can we track her location?”

“Rest assured, President. The girl still has a mark on her. It doesn’t seem like she’s discovered it yet.”

“Good. Gather the elites. Tonight, follow me—we’re going to kill her.”

Whether she was the actual target or not, she had killed members of Blood Sword House. That demanded a blood price.

…

Outrealm Orphanage.

Lin Yun lounged in a rocking chair, lazily sunbathing.

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Bai Xiaoxue tiptoeing through the gate with a basket of vegetables, clearly trying not to be seen.

“Xiaoxue?”

She froze. Her smile turned awkward but polite. “Director, you’re here…”

Her small hands tugged at the hem of her dress. That small motion made Lin Yun suspicious. He got up and walked over.

“What’s wrong with your skirt?”

“Uh… nothing! It’s fine!” Bai Xiaoxue said, even spinning around once with a cute flourish. “See?”

“Then why are you holding it like that?”

“Uh…”

She looked uneasy, which only deepened Lin Yun’s doubt.

“Let me see. If you don’t, I’ll check it myself.”

“No—don’t!”

Seeing that she couldn’t avoid it, Bai Xiaoxue reluctantly moved her hand away.

Her skirt fell back into place, revealing a large bloodstain.

Lin Yun froze and blurted out in shock, “Xiaoxue, did you get your period?”

She blinked, confused. “Period? What’s that?”

“Uh… I mean, did you have your first menstruation?”

“Menstruation? What’s that?”

“…”

Now it was Lin Yun’s turn to be stunned. She really didn’t know?

He began wondering whether he should give her a class on biological basics someday…

“Wait. If it’s not that, then what’s with the bloodstain?”

Bai Xiaoxue looked down and murmured weakly, “I… I killed someone just now.”

“…???”

Lin Yun raised an eyebrow. “Explain. Now.”

Bai Xiaoxue quickly recounted everything, and after hearing it all, Lin Yun frowned.

“So that happened…”

Based on her description, it seemed that Blood Sword House was a local assassin group. He didn’t know their true strength yet.

“You did well. When people try to hurt you, you should strike back hard!”

Bai Xiaoxue nodded, then bit her lip with guilt. “But… I ruined the dress you bought me…”

Lin Yun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. That’s what she was worried about?

No wonder she was sneaking around earlier.

He sighed and patted her head. “It’s fine. As long as you’re safe, that’s what matters most. For now, try not to go out unless necessary.”

His concern warmed Bai Xiaoxue’s heart.

“Mm… Got it, Director! I’ll go change and start cooking!”

After being forgiven, Bai Xiaoxue returned to her usual cheerful self.

“Oh! I came up with a new dish—ginger stir-fried shredded potatoes. I’ll make it for you later!”

With that, she bounced away happily.

Lin Yun’s mouth twitched. Was this girl trying to repay kindness with weird food?

But aside from that, he’d noticed something more serious…

He looked down at the black mist in his palm. He had pulled it from Bai Xiaoxue’s head—it seemed to be a tracking tool.

With a slight squeeze, he crushed the mist. A sharp gleam flashed in his eyes.

“I don’t care who you are. If you’re not afraid of death, then come.”

As long as it was near the orphanage, Lin Yun was invincible. No matter how strong the assassin, he wouldn’t be afraid!

As day turned to night, darkness fell over Outrealm City.

By midnight, the once-bustling streets had gone quiet, leaving only the distant barking of dogs and the chirping of insects.

Lin Yun and Bai Xiaoxue lay on rocking chairs in the courtyard, enjoying the cool night breeze as they gazed at the bright moon.

Suddenly, Lin Yun raised an eyebrow. “Well, well… they’ve really come.”

With his heightened senses, he immediately detected suspicious movement outside the orphanage.

He said to Bai Xiaoxue, “Stay here. I’ll go check it out.”

She looked surprised, then her expression shifted. “Could it be the people from Blood Sword House?”

Lin Yun concealed his presence and slipped out quietly. But the scene he saw made his expression turn strange.

Instead of assassins, he found a man and a woman in black digging furiously under a tree near the orphanage.

Beside them lay a large box. Who knew what was inside?

Unaware of Lin Yun’s presence, they continued digging while chatting.

“Dig faster! We have to bury the box quickly!”

“Ugh, stop rushing me! My shovel’s about to catch fire!”

“We can’t help it. If someone finds us, everything will be ruined.”

“Hmph. Still, credit to you for thinking of this. Once the girl’s buried, we don’t need to worry about being exposed.”

“Exactly—great wisdom. Once we bring that big shot here, we’ll be set.”

Soon, the two dug a deep pit, threw the box in, and covered it up as if nothing had happened.

“Phew, finally done! This is our ticket to wealth and glory!”

“Don’t jinx it! Let’s get out of here before someone catches up.”

With that, the two quickly left—completely unaware that Lin Yun had witnessed the whole thing from start to finish.

Once they were gone, Lin Yun walked over to the tree, looking thoughtful.

“Those two… definitely not good people.”

From their words, it sounded like they had either hidden a girl—or a corpse—underneath…
