As the start of the school term approached, Mu Jing also received a mass email sent to new students by the Federation University. The attached form detailed class assignments and dormitory arrangements, along with a freshman guide.
The Ability User Academy was further divided into three major departments. Mu Jing had been placed in Special Type Class One, and her dormitory was Women’s Dormitory Building Three, Room 301.
Ever since their last meeting at the haunted house, she had never taken the initiative to look for Xu Ge again. And Xu Ge was even less likely to look for her first.
Mu Jing had a very relaxed attitude about it. Although she had transmigrated into a novel, that didn’t mean she had to pursue the male protagonist or any supporting male characters. With a good identity like hers, living freely like a carefree slacker was perfectly fine.
After checking the four-person group chat, Mu Jing also learned the dorm assignments of the other three girls.
Anyone who could be on good terms with the original host had to at least be an Ability User. Otherwise, they wouldn’t even catch the Young Lady’s attention.
For that reason, Guo Luoling and the others had also entered the Federation University. However, none of them were in the same class or dormitory as Mu Jing.
The first day of school was extremely lively. Cars nearly blocked the school gate entirely. If the traffic police hadn’t arrived in time, Mu Jing felt she might have been stuck there for more than an hour.
Bored, she looked out the car window. She had intended to open it for some fresh air, but unexpectedly caught sight of a familiar figure.
Xu Ge.
He was dragging a black suitcase along the street, looking far more relaxed and carefree than those sitting in their cars.
When Mu Jing looked at him, she couldn’t tell if it was just her imagination, but Xu Ge seemed to glance toward her almost the next moment.
With the privacy film on the car window, he shouldn’t have been able to notice her gaze.
When their eyes met, Mu Jing was startled. But Xu Ge quickly looked away again, making her wonder if it had just been a coincidence.
The male protagonist at this stage shouldn’t have senses that sharp yet… right?
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable?” Mu Jianbai looked at her with concern. “Jingjing, do you want to open the window for some air?”
“No, it’s fine. I was just checking whether the traffic outside was still jammed.” Mu Jing withdrew her gaze and treated the moment as a coincidence.
Soon, the car stopped at the school gate. The bodyguards took out two suitcases, while the driver drove the car away to park elsewhere.
The registration process at the university was especially complicated. Mu Jing first reported to her academy. Only after receiving the necessary documents did she head toward the dormitory.
The Special Type department had its own dedicated teaching building. Originally, the senior male students had all been ready and waiting, hoping to encounter a good-looking freshman who was alone so they could enthusiastically guide her around, carry her luggage, and perhaps develop a romantic relationship in the process.
However, Mu Jing was accompanied by Mu Jianbai and a burly bodyguard. None of the senior male students dared to approach her at such a time. In the end, it was a senior female student who led them to the dormitory.
The Federation University implemented a zoned management system. Dormitories were dormitories, and teaching buildings were teaching buildings. It wasn’t like some other universities where dorms were scattered everywhere and random buildings had been added over time.
The senior female student explained, “The buildings with blue patterns are the boys’ dormitories, and the ones with red patterns are the girls’ dormitories.”
The girls’ dormitory building where Mu Jing lived happened to stand right next to a boys’ dormitory building with blue patterns.
When they reached the dormitory room at the far end of the third floor, they found an ordinary four-person dorm. The beds were lofted with desks underneath, and there was no bathroom.
Since there were only beds, the room still felt fairly spacious.
Mu Jing had arrived the earliest. The other three beds were still completely empty.
Mu Jianbai frowned slightly, clearly dissatisfied with the conditions. However, he didn’t show that displeasure in front of others and politely thanked the senior female student who had guided them.
After she left, he finally spoke.
“Luckily we bought a place nearby. If you’re not used to living in the dormitory, you can move out. I’ve already talked to the school.”
Mu Jianbai was extremely busy with his affairs, so being able to personally bring Mu Jing here was already quite good.
Once he confirmed that Mu Jing could manage on her own, he left the school with the bodyguard.
While Mu Jing was tidying up her belongings, the other three roommates gradually arrived.
The novel had very little description about Mu Jing. What it did show was mostly the arrogant and domineering side of the Young Lady.
Mu Jing wasn’t sure what kind of relationship the original host had with these three roommates, but they were probably not familiar. The original host would have simply moved out to live elsewhere and wouldn’t have been able to tolerate the dormitory environment at all.
Even Mu Jing herself had only managed to persuade Mu Jianbai to allow her to stay in the dormitory after repeatedly insisting that she could handle it.
After finishing her unpacking early, Mu Jing said goodbye to her three roommates and met up with Guo Luoling and the other two downstairs.
Guo Luoling exaggeratedly looked Mu Jing up and down before saying in disbelief, “No way—you’re really going to live in the dorm?”
“Yeah. It should be pretty interesting. If I can’t stand it, I’ll just move out later.” Mu Jing shrugged, looking completely indifferent.
Guo Yuan suddenly remembered something. “Oh right, when we came to find you earlier, we ran into Xu Ge. Aren’t you going to see him?”
They still didn’t know that Mu Jing and Xu Ge had broken up—or more accurately, that they had never actually been together.
Mainly because Mu Jing didn’t have the habit of constantly talking about dating and breakups. Subconsciously, she also felt that her relationship with the three of them wasn’t close enough to discuss such topics.
Just as she was hesitating about whether to tell them, Su Youyou suddenly spotted Xu Ge with her sharp eyes.
“Xu Ge!” she shouted excitedly, then pushed Mu Jing toward him.
The boys’ dormitory where Xu Ge lived happened to be right next to Mu Jing’s dormitory building, so it was easy to run into him when entering or leaving.
Xu Ge was holding a supermarket shopping bag. He stopped walking and looked toward them.
Mu Jing stiffly allowed herself to be pushed in front of Xu Ge and awkwardly said, “Xu Ge… what a coincidence.”
Xu Ge responded with a simple “Mm.” His gaze fell on the trio watching the scene with interest, and he asked, “Where are you going?”
Mu Jing froze for a moment before quickly explaining, “We’re going to the supermarket.”
She had expected Xu Ge to turn around and leave, but she hadn’t expected him to give them face like this.
“Mm. Go ahead.” Xu Ge had a cold personality and didn’t talk much. Even asking a couple of polite questions like that could already be considered a miracle of social interaction.
Even after arriving at the supermarket, Mu Jing was still slightly dazed. It wasn’t until Guo Luoling shook her arm that she snapped out of it.
“What’s wrong?”
“Someone wants your Federation contact.” Guo Luoling gestured toward the front with her chin.
“Hello, can we add each other as friends?” The young man holding up his phone had a handsome appearance and a slightly shy smile.
Mu Jing politely declined. “Sorry, I have a boyfriend.”
Before he could say anything else, she pulled the two girls beside her, and the four of them quickly walked away.
Although university was often considered the time for dating, Mu Jing didn’t want to start chatting with someone new so quickly.
Dating required both money and time.
Once someone had a partner, not only would they have to eat lunch together, but they would also have to perform those melodramatic farewell scenes at the dorm entrance every night. Every day would either be spent arguing or worrying about the relationship.
Most importantly, she didn’t want to chat with someone or send meaningless messages like “good morning,” “good night,” and “have you eaten yet?”
That was the best way to reject someone.
But in the eyes of the other three girls, it looked like Mu Jing was showing loyalty to her relationship with Xu Ge.
Feeling their gazes on her, Mu Jing thought it would be better to explain things clearly to them, so they wouldn’t push her toward Xu Ge like that again.
“Actually… Xu Ge and I have already broken up. It was a peaceful breakup.”
