Abilities were divided into two categories: ordinary abilities and mutated abilities.
Ordinary Abilities: Metal-Type Ability, Wood-Type Ability, Water-Type Ability, Fire-Type Ability, Earth-Type Ability, and Space-Type Ability.
Mutated Abilities: These evolved from ordinary abilities. However, an ordinary ability of the same level was not necessarily weaker than a mutated ability. It still depended on the individual.
Mutated abilities were divided into the following types: Lightning-Type Ability, Mental-Type Ability, Ice-Type Ability, Wind-Type Ability, Attack-Type Ability, Speed-Type Ability, and Strength-Type Ability.
The male lead, Jiang Xu, possessed a mutated Lightning-Type Ability, while Su Qianqian had an Ice-Type Ability.
Song Chuxia thought about finding an opportunity to kill more zombies and raise her ability to Level One.
However, the apocalypse had only just begun, so very few zombies had crystals in their brains. This made things a little troublesome. Fortunately, she had managed to obtain two crystals today by chance.
Wait a minute!
Song Chuxia suddenly remembered that, according to the book, those two crystals were supposed to belong to Jiang Xu.
In the original story, they had waited for three days in the university supermarket. Their food had nearly run out, but no one had come to rescue them. In the end, they decided to go out and search for supplies themselves.
Jiang Xu knew that Su Qianqian liked the snacks from that particular snack shop, so he wanted to collect some for her.
As a result, they discovered two zombies inside the shop. For Su Qianqian’s sake, Jiang Xu picked up a long stick and killed both zombies. It was also because of this incident that he discovered he possessed a Lightning-Type Ability and Su Qianqian possessed an Ice-Type Ability.
They collected two large bags of snacks. As they were leaving, Su Qianqian accidentally tripped over the two corpses on the ground and touched one of the zombies’ heads. That was when she discovered the crystal inside.
Su Qianqian wanted to turn some ice into water to rinse her hands and the crystal. However, she unexpectedly absorbed the crystal’s energy instead. Her ice spikes also became slightly larger than before.
Jiang Xu saw what had happened and became curious. He searched the brain of the other zombie and found another crystal.
He imitated Su Qianqian, holding the crystal in his palm, but nothing happened.
He then tried using his Lightning-Type Ability. The crystal quickly disappeared, and he felt that some of his energy had been restored. He had nearly exhausted his ability energy when he used it to kill the zombies earlier, but now he had recovered a little.
That was how they discovered that crystals could be found inside zombies’ brains and that absorbing them could strengthen and replenish their abilities.
Song Chuxia suddenly recalled this part of the story. Only then did she realize that she had accidentally snatched the crystals meant for the male and female leads.
A wave of delight surged through her.
That’s what you get for abandoning me and running off! That’s what you get for bullying me! If I get the chance, I’ll steal your golden opportunities again!
Song Chuxia happily put away her vine and decided to get some sleep. Tomorrow, she would get up early to kill zombies, search for crystals, and raise her ability level.
She also sighed as she thought about it.
The male and female leads are supposed to visit the snack shop tomorrow. Since they won’t find any crystals there now, I wonder if they’ll find some somewhere else. The female lead doesn’t have a space ability anymore either. I wonder if she’ll obtain one somewhere else.
Should I follow the male and female leads? Wouldn’t it be easier to steal their golden opportunities that way?
Song Chuxia quickly dismissed the idea.
What kind of existence are the male and female leads? Even if they die, they can come back to life. Staying near them would only bring me an endless stream of danger. I’d better avoid them whenever possible.
As Song Chuxia continued thinking, she gradually fell asleep.
Perhaps because of her competitive nature, she woke up shortly after five in the morning.
Suddenly, she noticed how quiet everything was around her. She could not even hear the zombies groaning.
Ever since she had transmigrated into the book, she had heard zombie growls constantly. At this moment, she finally felt at peace.
After washing up, she ate a little breakfast, gathered her belongings, and left the dormitory to look for zombies.
As soon as she reached the first floor, she heard a wet crunching sound, as though someone was chewing. There was also the unmistakable sound of someone smacking their lips.
Song Chuxia carefully and quietly approached the door from which the noises were coming.
Inside, she found two people and one zombie. The zombie had already bitten both people to death and was now concentrating on devouring their bodies.
Song Chuxia immediately used her vine to restrain it. She took out her baseball bat and smashed its head.
Suddenly, a dark figure lunged at her.
Song Chuxia quickly dodged and took a closer look. It was a male zombie, but its movements were slightly more agile than those of ordinary zombies.
Song Chuxia guessed that this was a Level One zombie.
When it lunged at her again, she immediately pulled the restrained zombie in front of herself as a shield. At the same time, she took out her baseball bat and smashed the other zombie’s head off with one swing.
Seeing this, the Level One zombie let out a painful howl as it stared at the severed head on the ground.
It immediately lunged at Song Chuxia.
Song Chuxia withdrew her vine and sent it toward the Level One zombie. The zombie dodged several times, but in the end, the vine finally managed to restrain it.
Song Chuxia smashed its head, finally bringing the fight to an end.
She controlled her vine to search inside the Level One zombie’s brain and, sure enough, found a crystal.
She then examined the other zombie’s head and discovered another soft object that resembled a crystal.
She was somewhat surprised.
Could this zombie have been close to becoming a Level One zombie too?
Song Chuxia looked at the zombie in front of her. Its neck had been bitten until only half of it remained. It was a female zombie.
Earlier, when the female zombie’s head had fallen off, the Level One zombie had let out such a sorrowful howl.
Could they have been lovers before they turned into zombies?
Curious, she put on her gloves and searched the Level One zombie’s body. She found a phone in its pocket.
Using the male zombie’s fingerprint, she unlocked the phone. As expected, the two of them had been a couple.
Song Chuxia felt a little wistful.
Even after turning into zombies, they still seemed to recognize each other. The male zombie had even been helping his girlfriend raise her level.
For a moment, she actually felt a little envious of the female zombie.
Suddenly, she heard a chorus of growls coming from outside. The surrounding zombies must have heard the male zombie’s howl and been drawn over.
Song Chuxia quickly left.
She hurried upstairs, found a clean dorm room, and blocked the door with a bed. Then she began absorbing the crystals.
After the crystals disappeared, some of her ability energy was restored.
She carefully examined her vine and only then noticed that it was now covered in countless tiny, hard thorns.
Song Chuxia tried controlling it with her mind.
Retract the thorns.
Sure enough, the thorns disappeared from the vine.
She tried again.
Grow the thorns.
The thorns emerged once more.
Then she had another idea.
Make the thorns longer.
However, nothing about the thorns changed.
Song Chuxia tried several more times before finally accepting the truth.
She could not understand what use the thorns were. Zombies did not feel pain anyway, so what good would they do?
She found them rather useless.
Later, when she used them to attack zombies, she realized just how useful they actually were.
Song Chuxia heard the sounds of zombies in the corridor outside. She went to the balcony and looked down. Seeing no zombies below, she used her vine to lower herself to the ground.
After retracting her vine, she took out her bicycle, got on, and rode away from the university.
She needed to hurry to the nearest supermarket and grab as many supplies as possible.
The book mentioned that there had always been a lot of people inside the supermarket, along with plenty of zombies.
After several days of the apocalypse spreading, most of the zombies inside the supermarket should have already wandered outside.
That was precisely why she had not rushed there in the first place.
