Ye Wan: …
Not wanting to speak, she turned and went out to check on the chickens.
To be fair, Lin An Yuan’s craftsmanship was quite good. The outside of the cage even had a feeding trough. After drinking the spiritual spring water, the little chicks were all quite energetic.
Ye Wan went into the kitchen and threw in the wild vegetable stalks she had picked out. Some of these wild vegetables also came from her space, and the chicks loved to eat them.
Then, she went to the room next door.
Da Ya had already measured Ye Wan’s figure earlier. In just a short while, she had cut the fabric and was now making the clothes.
Seeing Ye Wan come in, she didn’t stop her needlework.
“Don’t stay up all night making it, you’ll hurt your eyes,” Ye Wan said, noticing the poor light in the room.
“It’s fine. I’ll sleep when it gets too dark to see. Are there any other requirements for these clothes?” Da Ya’s voice was gentle and soft. She seemed like a very quiet girl.
Other requirements?
“As long as it’s wearable. For the undergarment, I want to add something here.” She felt uncomfortably bouncy without a bra.
Ye Wan lowered her voice and described it to Da Ya. The fabric was too soft, but it should be possible to make a Tube Top.
“This…” Da Ya glanced at Ye Wan’s chest, her face turning slightly red.
Ye Wan said in a low voice, “Don’t be shy. You’ll develop too in the future. We’re both women, there’s nothing to be shy about.”
Logically, she should have been flat-chested from malnutrition, but her figure was surprisingly good. It could only be attributed to good genetics.
Da Ya pursed her lips. “Alright, I’ll try to make it. Do you want embroidery?”
“No need, it’s too straining on the eyes. And it would be a waste to embroider this kind of fabric. Where do you work during the day?”
Ye Wan hadn’t asked yet. It seemed everyone in the family was busy, except for San Ya.
“At the embroidery workshop on the edge of town,” Da Ya said, her hands never stopping their needlework as she spoke.
“You walk there?”
Da Ya nodded.
The thought of walking for two hours just to get to town made Ye Wan’s head ache. “No wonder you’re so thin. You should eat more from now on.”
Da Ya blushed and lowered her head.
Just as she was about to leave, she saw Er Ya come in. On her head was the flower Ye Wan had bought for San Ya today. Seeing Ye Wan, she looked guilty for a moment, then immediately straightened her neck defiantly.
“What are you doing in our room?”
Seeing her like this, Ye Wan was speechless. “Snatching things from your younger sister. You really have some nerve.”
Er Ya shrieked, “What do you mean, snatching? I traded something with San Ya for it. Why are you so annoying when you talk?”
“Right back at you.” Ye Wan walked out the door and saw San Ya still in the courtyard, catching ants to feed the chicks. She called out.
“San Ya, hurry up and wash your hands, then go back to your room.”
San Ya obediently went to wash her hands and went inside.
A child without a mother was indeed sensible. Ye Wan also went into her room, but she froze the moment she stepped through the door.
Seeing her enter, Lin An Yuan continued to wash his upper body at an unhurried pace.
“Why didn’t you make a sound?” Ye Wan said, but her eyes were staring at him without blinking.
Lin An Yuan frowned. “Have you seen enough? Get out.”
Ye Wan deliberately said, “Not much to look at. So skinny. I’m afraid I’ll get a sty just from looking.”
Lin An Yuan raised an eyebrow. “Wipe the drool from the corner of your mouth before you say that. Are you going to wash? There’s water right here.”
The corner of Ye Wan’s mouth twitched. “I’m not washing.”
She’d have to be crazy to undress and wash in front of a man, let alone with water he had just used.
Hearing this, Lin An Yuan looked over. “On such a hot day, are you sure? You must be starting to stink, right?”
His handsome features were eye-catching, but the words he spoke made one want to poison him mute.
Ye Wan gritted her teeth. “Lin An Yuan, can’t your mouth be less venomous? I washed myself clean while you were out. You’re the one who stinks!”
She had already washed up in her space long ago; otherwise, how could she have stood it?
What a psycho.
Since she had already seen him, leaving now would be too pretentious. Ye Wan sat on a stool. “Lin An Yuan, what do you think about me starting a small business?”
The family was so poor, lacking food and clothing. Today, she had only bought one bag of flour at the town and couldn’t even afford rice.
They didn’t grow rice here; it was transported from the south, making it twice as expensive as flour. The poor girl hadn’t even had a single bite of white rice yet.
“What do you want to do?” Lin An Yuan had already put on his equally patched-up undergarment.
Suddenly, the patched clothes looked a bit of an eyesore to Ye Wan. “How about selling food? Other things probably won’t sell well.”
Food is the first necessity of the people. When one couldn’t even fill their stomach, they wouldn’t think of anything else. When a person was hungry, their only thought was to eat their fill.
“Do you have money? What will you sell?” Lin An Yuan’s long, slender fingers tied his sash.
Ye Wan stared at his hands and touched the broken teapot on the table. “There’s still some of the silver I found left. I see your carpentry skills are decent. You can make me a pushcart later. I haven’t decided what to sell yet.”
Seeing Lin An Yuan look over, Ye Wan paused. “Don’t look at me like that. I don’t want to eat coarse grain anymore. I want to live a good life. I want to eat white rice every day.”
Lin An Yuan stared at her for a while. Just when Ye Wan thought he wouldn’t agree, he slowly spoke.
“What kind of pushcart do you want?”
“You’re willing to make it?” Ye Wan was a little surprised. She thought he would refuse.
Lin An Yuan turned and lazily lay down on the kang. “I’m just waiting for you to earn money and support me.”
He really had the nerve to say that.
Ye Wan gave a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Fine. Who told you to be so good-looking? Since I’m going to earn money to support you, can you give me the bed to sleep on?”
She didn’t like lying next to someone.
“Sure.” Lin An Yuan rolled over, turning on his side to look at Ye Wan.
How good-looking could a person be? Even wearing a plain white undergarment covered in patches, he was like a clear breeze and a bright moon, making the whole dilapidated room seem as if it were plated in a layer of light.
“Then get up.” Ye Wan glanced at him, then couldn’t help but look again.
Sure enough, she was just a shallow face-judger. If the one who bought her had been an old widower with buck teeth, she would have run away overnight.
Lin An Yuan didn’t move. “What I agreed to give you was the bed. What I’m sleeping on is the kang.”
Ye Wan: …
There was no bed in this room. It was just a slip of the tongue because she was used to sleeping in one. Ye Wan was so angry she laughed.
It turned out that people really do laugh when they’re speechless.
Ye Wan squatted on the ground and drew an abstract version of a pushcart. “The pushcart will be something like this, with two levels, top and bottom, and wheels.”
She had to make money. When she had money, she would live in a big house. This was too suffocating.
Lin An Yuan glanced at it. “Quite a creative idea. You’re all better now, right? It’s time to breastfeed San Ya.”
Ye Wan’s face darkened. Was he never going to let this go?
“I haven’t had a child, so I don’t have milk.” The words were practically squeezed through her teeth.
What unmarried young woman had milk? Did he have any common sense?
“You only have milk after having a child?” Lin An Yuan sat up and stared at Ye Wan.
Ye Wan rolled her eyes. “What else? You’re a father of three, don’t you know this little bit of common sense?”
Lin An Yuan frowned. “Then if you have one, will you be able to feed San Ya?”
Ye Wan stood up and backed away, speaking hurriedly, “What are you thinking? San Ya is already so big. She looks sallow and thin because she hasn’t been eating well. You’ve seen my cooking. I guarantee I can raise San Ya to be fair and plump in a month. Besides, don’t forget we agreed on three rules. Lin An Yuan, you can’t go back on your word.”
She was not having a child, no way.
“I go back on my word all the time. But as for your looks… you’d better not get your hopes up.”
Lin An Yuan stroked his chin and looked at Ye Wan seriously for a few moments, his gaze carrying a hint of disdain.
Ye Wan: …
Go to hell, you venomous-tongued man.
