“Qingyi, how could you accept his confession?”

Someone was more anxious than Lin Yuan—Long Haochen stepped forward, positioning himself between Lin Yuan and Gu Qingyi, staring at Lin Yuan with clear hostility.

Being stared at like that made Lin Yuan feel a chill down his spine, as if the next second Long Haochen would reach out and strangle him.Full novel: I Was Reborn as the Villain, but the System Bound Itself to the Female Leads — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Yeah, CEO Gu, how could you accept my confession?” Lin Yuan quickly echoed, inwardly hoping Gu Qingyi would suddenly say it was all just a joke, that she was teasing him, then throw the roses away with her usual haughty air, curse him again—’a toad wanting to eat swan meat’—and finally tell him to get lost. Wouldn’t that be better?

Gu Qingyi glanced at Long Haochen and frowned slightly, then said, “Long Haochen, do I need your permission to make my own decisions?”

She didn’t like Lin Yuan, true, but that didn’t mean she liked Long Haochen either. This man had been forcibly arranged to stay by her side by her grandfather, acting overly familiar, calling her ‘Qingyi’ as though they were close.

Lin Yuan, on the other hand, used to address her as ‘Qingyi’ before and after every sentence. Why was he suddenly calling her ‘CEO Gu’ today? Was he playing hard to get?

“I’m here because your grandfather asked me to protect you. How can I just stand by? I’ve heard of this guy—his name is Lin Yuan, the eldest young master of the Lin Family in North City. He relies on his background to act like a tyrant, doing all sorts of wicked things. He’s definitely no good. If you accept his confession, aren’t you walking right into the tiger’s den?”

Long Haochen said as he pulled Gu Qingyi behind him protectively. He thought his words would provoke Lin Yuan into a rage, make him lose control, and then he’d have a reason to step in and teach him a lesson.

After all, people like Lin Yuan were used to being above others, and couldn’t stand being criticized.

However, things turned out far beyond Long Haochen’s expectations.

Lin Yuan smiled politely and gave Long Haochen a thumbs-up. “Brother, you really see through people. CEO Gu, even outsiders know how infamous I am. If you accept my confession, isn’t that like walking into a trap? I think you should take back what you just said.”

“Heh…”

Hearing Lin Yuan say that, Gu Qingyi found it amusing. When had this guy ever acknowledged his bad reputation before?

“Director Lin, you’re really something. You harassed me for three years, confessed to me every single day for three years, and now that I’ve agreed, you want me to take it back? What do you take me for?”

Her tone turned cold as she questioned him.

“I have other matters to attend to. We’ll talk about this later.”

Gu Qingyi said, holding the roses in her arms as she turned and walked back into Tengyuan Building. She needed to confirm whether the list of internal traitors had really appeared on her office computer.

After she left, only Lin Yuan and Long Haochen remained.

“Lin Yuan, you’re really cunning. I don’t know how you tricked Qingyi, but you’d better stay away from her, or don’t blame me for being rude,” Long Haochen threatened directly.

The driver couldn’t take it anymore. In North City, their Young Master Lin was like royalty. Was he really going to be threatened by some nobody?

“You dare threaten our Young Master Lin? You’re asking for death!”

As he spoke, the driver was about to make a move. He wasn’t just a driver—he had been professionally trained and also served as Lin Yuan’s bodyguard. Otherwise, how could he earn a salary ten times higher than the industry standard?

“Stop! Stop right there!”

Lin Yuan quickly stopped his driver.

Was this a joke? That amateur martial arts of his wasn’t even enough to handle one finger from Long Haochen. If he got beat up, that was one thing—but what if Long Haochen used it as an excuse to beat him too?

This body had been ruined by years of alcohol and indulgence. He probably couldn’t survive a single punch from Long Haochen.

He had no intention of dying right after arriving in this world.

“Brother, may I ask your name?” Lin Yuan asked, already knowing the answer.

“Long Haochen!” Long Haochen declared proudly, as if he were some peerless emperor.

“Brother Long, don’t worry. From today onward, I promise I won’t appear in front of Gu Qingyi again.”

“Oh? You mean it?”

“I swear, I mean it.”

“Hmph. At least you know your place. I’ll let you off for now. But if I see you anywhere near Qingyi again, don’t blame me for being merciless. Scum like you has no right to be near her.”

“Yes, yes, Brother Long is absolutely right!” Lin Yuan nodded humbly, all he wanted now was to leave this cursed place.

“Fine. I said I’d let you go, and I keep my word. You can leave!”

“Great. Goodbye, Brother Long!”

Lin Yuan felt as if he’d been granted amnesty. He quickly pulled his driver into the car and left without looking back.

On the way, the driver still looked confused. While driving, he asked, “Young Master Lin, why didn’t you let me teach that guy a lesson just now? He really thinks just because his surname is Long, he’s a dragon? Daring to threaten you? I should’ve sent him straight to hell!”

“You know nothing! With your lousy skills, he could knock you out with a single finger. From now on, remember this—whenever you see Long Haochen, take a detour! Stay as far away as possible! I’m doing this for your own good!” Lin Yuan snapped.

“Young Master… you really care that much about my safety? I… I’m kind of touched!”

The driver’s voice trembled. He always thought of himself as just a dog under the young master’s hand, a cheap life he could throw away at any moment. But he didn’t expect Lin Yuan to care about his safety. He was genuinely moved.

“Get lost! Damn, that’s disgusting.”

“Young Master, where are we heading next?”

“Home. Let’s go home first.”

Lin Yuan leaned back in the seat, staring out at the traffic outside the window. Just that brief encounter had already exhausted him. Right now, all he wanted was to go home, rest properly, and sort out the information in his mind.

Gu Qingyi’s reaction today was completely out of character.

“Alright, Young Master. But… which home are we going to?”

As the eldest young master of the Lin Family in North City, Lin Yuan’s family assets exceeded 100 billion yuan. He had multiple properties across the city, many bought purely for his amusement. Normally, he didn’t go back to his parents’ house but lived outside, spending time with various women.

“We’re going to my parents’ house!”

“Understood.”

As a competent driver, wherever the young master wanted to go, he would go—no questions asked.

Soon, the car arrived at the residence of Lin Yuan’s parents. It was a traditional-style compound. As the car pulled in, Lin Yuan stepped out and walked a few steps forward, where he saw a two- or three-year-old child playing in the courtyard.

A servant stood nearby, attentively caring for the child.
