It wasn’t as though he hadn’t anticipated this disaster.
The moment Yo Han Sung asked whether the ticket could be transferred, Gyeol had felt danger creeping up on him.
Giving someone else an opportunity out of pure goodwill? The Yo Han Sung Gyeol knew was not that kind of person. If it were manipulating others to create a situation advantageous to himself, that would be another matter.
Even so, he had prayed he was simply being self-conscious. Ever since entering Pheromone Island, every single thing Yo Han Sung did had seemed aimed at tormenting him. Gyeol had hoped even that was merely arrogance on his part.
Why would someone like Yo Han Sung bother dedicating an entire program just to torment a failed idol turned supporting actor like me?
“As everyone knows, Gyeol Go had a very difficult time yesterday.”
But Yo Han Sung repeatedly moved beyond the limits of Gyeol’s expectations.
He had in the past, he still did now, and even the future stretching ahead had become impossible to see clearly.
Some forms of malice bloom without origin. The thought that Yo Han Sung might be exactly that kind of person swelled endlessly inside Gyeol’s mind.
“So I’d like to give the choice to Gyeol Go instead of using it myself.”
Someone let out a breathy, almost awestruck “Wow......” and then one of the cast members started clapping. Encouraged by it, everyone else joined in applause.
Marveling at Yo Han Sung’s admirable decision, cheering for Gyeol’s choice.
There’s no way any of this is sincere.
It was all polished nonsense. Yo Han Sung was speaking as though he genuinely cared about Gyeol.
Carefully walking the fine line of looking surprised without letting disgust show through, Gyeol forced himself to speak.
“I’m really okay. It’d be better if Yo Han Sung used it according to the original rules—”
“Come on, Gyeol!”
“Yeah. We all think this is a good idea.”
This was a disaster. The other cast members were even more enthusiastic about it.
“Everyone’s saying the same thing, so just accept it happily, Gyeol Go.”
Meanwhile the person directly responsible, Yo Han Sung himself, wore nothing but an endlessly relaxed and gracious smile.
On the surface, the atmosphere could not have looked warmer.
Every contestant was looking at Gyeol with affectionate eyes.
Among them were Sun Choi curling his hand into a fist and Jun Shin faintly furrowing his brows, but Gyeol—cornered as he was—didn’t notice either of them.
He hated this situation.
The Ivory Mansion date ticket everyone else desperately wanted. Of course Gyeol had wanted it too, badly enough to seize it at any cost. But he had never wanted it handed to him by Yo Han Sung at a moment like this.
Still, now that the stage had been set, there was only one path left.
More than anything, he didn’t want Yo Han Sung to see him hesitate any further. He didn’t want to look frightened, retreating, shrinking back.
After steadying himself, Gyeol lifted his eyes and looked directly at Yo Han Sung as he spoke.
“Okay, then I’ll gratefully accept it.”
The cast applauded once more.
Completely oblivious to what the actual person involved was feeling. It was enough to drive him insane.
“Thank you so much, Yo Han Sung.”
Gyeol smiled brightly at him.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. If Yo Han Sung smiled, then Gyeol would smile too. He had no intention of collapsing in fear and letting himself be helplessly dragged around like the foolish Gyeol Go of the past.
Excellent. Yo Han Sung’s “Ivory Mansion Date Ticket” will now be transferred to Gyeol Go.
Because the current Gyeol Go had things he needed to protect.
