This old fox Lin Xing seemed to be protecting Lu Hengge, but in truth, he was only thinking of himself. The Holy Son becoming a cripple was a major incident! Sooner or later, the sect master would investigate. By being kind to Lu Hengge now, Lin Xing was paving the way for his own safety later.

“This place is perfect,” Lu Hengge thought. “No one will disturb me here. It won’t hinder my cultivation recovery.”

Lu Hengge settled into the place. After a brief clean-up, he sat on the bed and looked down at the countless wounds covering his body—some left from fighting the demon race, others newly inflicted by Lin Xing’s pressure. After briefly examining himself internally, Lu Hengge began thinking about how to heal.Full novel: I’ll Slaughter My Way to Immortality on the Bones of Betrayers — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

In his current condition, entering the Sword Prison was impossible. Even a faint trace of sword energy would be enough to tear his body apart.

“The injuries to my flesh aren’t hard to heal. The key is the meridians.” Broken bones and shredded flesh were nothing. As an 8th-grade alchemist, refining a healing pill would be effortless for him—so long as he had the ingredients.

The real trouble was the meridians. Cultivators placed utmost importance on their meridians. The more meridians in the body, the more spiritual Qi one could draw from the heavens and earth. Back then, Lu Hengge had successfully opened twelve meridians in a single attempt, and later, with the aid of various pills, expanded that number to 108.

An average disciple had no more than thirty meridians. Lu Hengge’s were more than triple that. This was precisely why his cultivation progressed so rapidly.

But now, all 108 of his meridians were completely severed. To heal them fully was nearly impossible. This made things tricky.

Lu Hengge hadn’t lied to Lin Xing—there truly was no known pill formula to regrow a Nascent Soul. Even with knowledge five hundred years into the future, doing so was still an immense challenge.

“I’ll rest for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll visit the Pill Hall.” Since he couldn’t think of a solution yet, Lu Hengge tossed aside all distractions and laid down peacefully. This was the most restful sleep he’d had in five hundred years, because he knew Lin Xing would surely assign people to guard him.

The next morning, after a simple wash, Lu Hengge sat cross-legged. The [Gazing Immortal Scripture] was a technique he created himself—one that perfectly suited his body. However, it had no ability to heal meridians. All he could do was use his spiritual Qi to warm and nourish his body, so he wouldn’t appear outwardly weak.

“Sit and gaze upon the immortals.” Lu Hengge closed his eyes slightly. Spiritual Qi began to gather. The spiritual Qi from within a 500-meter radius surged toward the dilapidated wooden hut.

Lu Hengge didn’t dare fully activate his technique. In his current state, any spiritual Qi entering his body couldn’t be used, and might even burst him from within.

The spiritual Qi within this radius wasn’t much, but it was just enough to nourish his body, healing superficial wounds and bone injuries. After a while, Lu Hengge let out a breath of turbid air.

“It’s still no good. Without functioning meridians, I can’t store spiritual Qi.”

Lu Hengge frowned deeply. The spiritual Qi he absorbed was temporarily trapped in his body, and if left too long, it would leak away.

Meridians were containers. Spiritual Qi was water. Lu Hengge’s body was like a cracked tank—no matter how much water he poured in, it would all eventually seep out. Enjoying the story? Read on at novelping(.)com.

He now had two paths. The first was to repair his meridians. If even one could be restored, he could resume cultivation and progress from there. The second was to create a new container. If he could develop something else in his body to store spiritual Qi and take over the function of meridians, that would also resolve his dilemma.

Comparing the two, the first seemed easier. But having lived two lifetimes, Lu Hengge felt that the second might suit him better. Besides, he wasn’t completely without direction—perhaps in the Sword Prison, there was a way to achieve this.

Lu Hengge rose from the bed and, without even locking the door, headed toward the Pill Hall. It was just a rundown wooden hut—locked or not, it made no difference.

Not long after Lu Hengge left, a noisy and irritating voice echoed along the forest path. “Lu Hengge is so stubborn! He refused to stay in a proper cave residence and had to live out in this remote wilderness. If Master hadn’t made me come here, I wouldn’t have stepped foot in this godforsaken place.”

The greenery parted. Two figures strolled into view.

Ye Feng glanced at Qiu Liu beside him, annoyed. This woman never shut up. One day, he was going to stuff that mouth full—then let’s see how she’d keep running it.

They saw the hut.

“So this is where senior brother’s staying?” Ye Feng narrowed his eyes. Aside from a broken-down wooden hut, there was nothing. It seemed Lin Xing’s help was only surface-level—he didn’t truly care about Lu Hengge.

Qiu Liu’s disdain grew. Looked like her senior brother had truly fallen—now reduced to living in a doghouse, not even worthy of a proper cave residence.

“Junior brother, do we really have to give these precious herbs to Lu Hengge?” she grumbled. “I really don’t want to!”

“He’s a cripple now—it’d be a total waste.”

Qiu Liu fondled her storage ring, which contained many rare herbs. Lu Sheng had ordered her to bring them to Lu Hengge, but she was still in the Scripture Pavilion and hadn’t yet returned.

Ye Feng’s face twitched. He didn’t want to give them either! But he couldn’t say that out loud. Who knew if Lin Xing had arranged guards around Lu Hengge’s place? If someone overheard, he might be reported and dragged to the Hall of Justice.

This idiot woman had no brain at all.

Putting on a gentle smile, Ye Feng said, “Senior brother is still part of Qingyun Peak. If these herbs can help him heal a little, it’s worth it.”

Qiu Liu’s eyes sparkled with hearts. “Junior brother, you’re so kind!” Her junior brother was such a good person—so much better than Lu Hengge!

Qiu Liu clung to Ye Feng’s arm. The soft pressure of her chest made Ye Feng’s mind wander. His gaze heated up. He needed to find a chance to bed Qiu Liu first—she was so easily tricked, it wouldn’t be hard. The source of this chapter is novelping.com.

“Let’s go in first. Senior brother’s probably injured and can’t run far.”

Hand in hand, Ye Feng led Qiu Liu to the hut. Qiu Liu’s face flushed slightly, secretly delighted.

The door wasn’t locked. In fact, it was wide open. The two of them entered like they owned the place. But the bed was empty.

“Injured and still running around.” Qiu Liu scowled. “And we came all this way to bring him medicine.”

Lu Hengge was only worth anything now because of his alchemy. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have bothered.

Ye Feng was also surprised. His real purpose was to check if Lu Hengge’s injuries were serious. If not, he’d deliver another blow. But the man wasn’t even here.

“System, where is Lu Hengge now?”

[Pill Hall.]

A cold voice rang out in Ye Feng’s mind. He sneered. So he ran off to the Pill Hall looking for a way to heal.

If Lu Hengge really did find a way to recover and resumed his cultivation path, it’d be Ye Feng who couldn’t sleep at night.

Thinking of this, Ye Feng decided to head to the Pill Hall too.

Meanwhile, Qiu Liu looked around the tidy little hut and suddenly had an idea. “Junior brother, do you think Lu Hengge might be hiding some pills for himself?”

Ye Feng instantly understood what this brainless woman was thinking and put on a troubled face. “Senior sister, that wouldn’t be appropriate…”

“What’s inappropriate about it? He’s a cripple—what does he need so many pills for? Since he’s ruined anyway, we might as well take them for ourselves.”

With that, Qiu Liu began rummaging through the room. The neat little hut was quickly turned upside down, becoming even more rundown.

Ye Feng simply smiled in silence.

With a dumb woman like her around, she really saved him a lot of effort.
