She bit her lip.
“I understand.
I’ll come right back after I see my mother.”
‘So Winston Wyatt really wasn’t going to let her leave.
He was ruthlessly using her mother as a shackle to keep her tied to him.’
Seeing Winston turn around and immediately start threatening someone again, Aurora Rivers felt a headache coming on.
‘But she also understood that getting Winston Wyatt back on the right track would require her persistent guidance and correction.
It wasn’t something that could be done in a day or two.’
…
“Mr.
King, do you know why Winston acts like an animal when he has an episode?”
“Well…
I really don’t know.” Mr.
King shook his head.
“But from what I know, the Master has been like this since he was a child whenever he had an episode.”
‘It always comes back to his childhood.’
‘As expected, the root cause must be tied to Mr.
and Mrs.
Wyatt.’
Aurora Rivers frowned.
“Has Winston always been treated at home?
Has he never been to a hospital?”
“Never.
He was always treated by the family doctor.
Later, when the family doctor was at a complete loss and could do nothing about the Master’s condition, we began searching for a calming master for him.” A calming master isn’t necessarily a psychologist.
They come from all walks of life—preschool teachers, dancers, guzheng players, singers, zookeepers, and more.
The Wyatt Family would seek out anyone who was capable and had an exceptionally affable nature.
Isla Chambers was an exception.
She didn’t possess any of the typical traits of a calming master, but she was the one the Master brought back himself.
The most surprising thing was that she actually did have a suppressive effect on the Master’s condition.
But to this day, Mr.
King still couldn’t figure out what it was about Isla Chambers that attracted the Master, allowing him to retain a sliver of rationality during his episodes.
“The Master despises hospitals, and he has since he was a child.
If we try to force him to go, he’ll have an episode.
It’s not the kind of manic symptom where he gets agitated and loses his mind.
But sometimes, silence is more severe and terrifying than an outburst.”
A grave look filled Aurora Rivers’s eyes.
She knew why Winston Wyatt disliked and resisted hospitals.
When Winston Wyatt was a child, he had a serious illness with a persistent high fever and had to be hospitalized.
But during his stay, neither Mr.
Wyatt nor Mrs.
Wyatt came to visit him.
A child is at their most vulnerable when they’re sick, yet little Winston Wyatt didn’t even receive a single concerned glance from his parents.
He lay lonely and forlorn in his hospital bed, enduring each sick day alone.
All he could smell was disinfectant, and all he could see was a cold, silent space.
“Miss Rivers, are you thinking of taking the Master to the hospital?”
“Hey…” Mr.
King wanted to stop her.
Although Winston Wyatt’s attitude toward Aurora Rivers was special, as if she were family, he didn’t think Winston would listen to her this time either.
…
As the head of the Wyatt Family, Winston Wyatt managed an enormous family enterprise, so he was actually far from idle.
When Aurora Rivers found Winston Wyatt, he was handling work matters.
A pair of rimless glasses rested on his high-bridged nose, lending him a much more composed and mature air.
Aurora Rivers walked in carrying a fruit platter.
He noticed her the moment she entered, and Winston Wyatt immediately stood up.
Aurora Rivers smiled and asked gently, “Are you busy?”
Winston Wyatt immediately shook his head.
“Not busy.” In reality, he was extremely busy.
Many matters required his personal attention.
The only reason he was working from home was to spend more time with Aurora Rivers.
“I just washed these.
Have one.” Aurora Rivers picked up a cherry and held it out to him.
Winston Wyatt opened his mouth to be fed and began to chew.
“Sweet.”
Aurora Rivers said, “Have a grape.”
Winston Wyatt hurriedly opened his mouth again.
“Mmm, sweet,” he commented.
Aurora Rivers was a little skeptical.
She ate one herself, and her face puckered from the sourness.
“This variety is sour.” But even though it was sour, it was still delicious—a good way to cut the sweetness and whet the appetite.
Winston Wyatt said earnestly, “It is sweet.” A happy smile filled his eyes, and a gentle aura emanated from him in that moment.
“I want to take you to the hospital.
I’ve already scheduled an appointment with a doctor.”
The sudden shift from eating fruit to going to the hospital caught Winston Wyatt completely off guard.
He froze.
Aurora Rivers placed the fruit platter on the table and looked directly into Winston Wyatt’s eyes.
“I’ll go with you.”
Her serene gaze was calming, and her voice carried a warm strength.
Winston Wyatt’s heart trembled.
After a long moment, he hummed in agreement.
“Prepare the car.”
“Yes, I’ll arrange it right away.” Mr.
King, who had been waiting quietly by the door ever since Aurora Rivers went in, was shocked.
‘She actually succeeded?!’ He looked at Aurora Rivers with newfound reverence.
It was at this moment that he truly understood the immense importance this mysterious Miss Rivers held in the Master’s heart.
When it was time to get in the car, Mr. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
King eagerly opened the door for Aurora Rivers.
“Miss Rivers, please.” His tone was both respectful and sincere.
…
Staring at the hospital before him, Winston Wyatt felt a wave of dizziness.
He shook his head, trying hard to pull himself together, and followed closely behind Aurora Rivers.
The hospital was already crowded, so it was inconvenient for the bodyguards to follow.
They waited by the car instead.
His leather shoes clicked on the cold tiles.
The strong smell of disinfectant instantly flooded his senses.
Winston Wyatt’s expression soured, his lips turned pale, and soon, his whole face was ashen.
A ringing started in his ears, and his vision blurred into overlapping images.
People rushing by brushed past or bumped into him, but he didn’t react at all.
His gaze remained fixed on Aurora Rivers.
But in the space of a few breaths, more and more people walked past him, their overlapping figures obscuring his view and separating him from her.
Seeing Aurora Rivers disappear from his sight, Winston Wyatt’s breathing grew ragged.
He reached out, trying to push through the crowd, and opened his mouth to call her name, but his throat felt blocked, making it hard to breathe.
He yanked hard at his tie and shirt collar.
Winston Wyatt stumbled, and as a mother and son walked past him, he uncontrollably looked over at them.
The child must have been sick.
The mother held his hand, her eyes filled with worry and heartache.
She had bought him his favorite milk and was softly asking if he was scared of getting a shot.
She told him not to be afraid, encouraging him with the promise that a brave little boy would get a snack as a reward afterward.
What little kid could resist such a sugar-coated offer?
He was instantly won over, puffing out his small chest and declaring loudly that he wasn’t scared at all.
Seeing this, the mother’s eyes filled with a smile, and she planted an adoring kiss on the child’s cheek.
Winston Wyatt’s stare was too intense.
The child’s mother looked over.
The moment her eyes met his, her expression suddenly twisted into one of frantic hatred, disgust, and rejection.
Winston Wyatt’s heart seized.
When he looked at the mother’s face again, it had transformed into that of Mrs.
Wyatt.
She shrieked hysterically at him, “You’re not my child!
Get away!
You’re a monster!
I hate you!”
