“And over here. People hide in these bushes pretty often too. Especially that niece of mine who loves skipping class. She’s only been here for a month and she’s already ditched four or five times.”

“Every single time she skips, she comes here to hide. I still have no idea why.”

“Maybe the sunlight is nicest here.”Full novel: I’m in Honkai, but Integrated Strategies Has Begun — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

A faintly wistful, nostalgic smile appeared on Xia Ling’s face.

Xia Ling and Theresa chatted as they walked, passing quite a few places that stirred old memories in Xia Ling.

Before long, the two had crossed nearly half of St.

Freya Academy and arrived in front of the teaching building.

Theresa’s office was located here.

“Oh, right, Xia Ling.”

Theresa sat down behind her desk, turned on her computer, then suddenly looked up.

“What kind of position do you want?”

“Position?”

“Right. Do you want to be a student, a teaching assistant, or a teacher?”

“Uh…”

“Can I ask what exactly you’re planning to have me teach?”

“Have a little more confidence in yourself.”

Theresa giggled.

“I think your level is more than enough to teach them mathematics or something similar. Maybe liberal arts too. You’d probably pick it up quickly after some review.”

“I think I’ll pass.”

Xia Ling shook her head like a rattle drum.

“If I become a proper teacher or student, you’d have to go through the trouble of creating a complete identity record for me. That sounds like way too much work.”

“A teaching assistant shouldn’t require such a complicated process. Simpler is better.”

“Actually, they’re about the same…”

“And it isn’t that troublesome…”

Theresa muttered under her breath.

Then she waved it away.

“Fine. Since you don’t want to be a proper teacher, we’ll register you as a teaching assistant for now.”

“If you want to become permanent staff later, come find me.”

“So what does a teaching assistant normally do?”

“Hmm…”

“That’s actually hard to define.”

Theresa thought for a moment.

“If I had to describe it, your duties would be somewhat similar to a homeroom teacher.”

“Besides teaching classes, Himeko is also Hyperion’s captain. She has a lot of things to handle every day.”

“And you can’t help much with specialist Valkyrie courses anyway.”

“At most, you’ll probably cover a few general education classes.”

“I see.”

Xia Ling nodded.

“Then I have no problem with that.”

“And if I can reduce some of Himeko’s workload, I’d be very happy to.”

Seeing that Xia Ling had no objections, Theresa relaxed.

She opened a cabinet and took out an identification document, a teacher terminal, two keys to Himeko’s villa, and Xia Ling’s first month of salary.

She handed everything over at once.

What?

Why was she already receiving a salary?

Because Xia Ling was currently completely penniless.

Without an advance payment, she could not even afford lunch today.

“All right.”

“The teacher terminal contains a map of the academy.”

“If you get tired, you can head home first too.”

“Himeko usually comes back pretty late, but there’s an amazing cook at the villa.”

“You’ll definitely get a good meal.”

“This is the key to Himeko’s house?”

Xia Ling looked at the key in her palm.

“I thought…”

“You’re Himeko’s teaching assistant.”

“Of course you’re living with her.”

A sly smile appeared on Theresa’s face.

“Himeko’s villa is pretty big, though, so quite a few people live there.”

“My niece and two of her friends also stay there.”

“Don’t be shy.”

“Get along with your new roommates.”

So she wants me to build new friendships and attachments to pull me out of this semi-isolated state… while also keeping me nearby so they can observe me.

Theresa really is…

Understanding Theresa’s intentions, Xia Ling looked up.

For the first time, she gave Theresa a faint, genuine smile.

“Thank you, Theresa.”

Theresa immediately became a little awkward from the unexpected direct attack.

Xia Ling turned and left.

Opening the teacher terminal, she followed the navigation all the way to the commercial district.

After all, today marked the beginning of a new life.

She needed personal necessities.

This was not like running Trials inside the System, where she could simply ask it to materialize whatever she wanted.

After shopping extensively and eating a full meal, Xia Ling arrived at Himeko’s villa.

She found her assigned room and began organizing her things.

…

“Mei! Mei!”

“I passed my make-up exam!”

“I want ten fried chicken drumsticks tonight!”

Kiana bounced along the road, proudly bragging to Mei.

“Idiot Kiana.”

“It was clearly Bronya’s virtual reality interface that did all the work.”

“If you relied solely on Idiot Kiana’s Paramecium-level brain, another month of studying still wouldn’t be enough.”

Bronya immediately began their daily mutual roasting session.

“What are you talking about?!”

“I passed because of this young lady’s incredible intelligence!”

“All right, all right.”

Mei looked at Kiana and smiled indulgently.

“Since you passed, you can eat as many as you want.”

“Actually, Teacher Himeko asked me to buy extra ingredients today too.”

“She said something about…”

“A welcome dinner?”

“Big Sister Mei.”

Bronya thought for a moment.

“She was wearing a student uniform, but nobody had ever seen her before.”

“Could that be the person we’re welcoming?”

“Hmm…”

“Probably.”

Mei considered it.

“We only arrived recently, so we don’t know every student.”

“But people who have studied here for a year or two should recognize almost everyone in the academy.”

“If even they don’t know her…”

“She’s probably the person Himeko mentioned.”

“Awesome!”

Kiana cheered.

“I hope she lives at Himeko’s place too!”

“The house is so big, and Himeko and Auntie Theresa are always gone at night.”

“It feels way too empty.”

“Idiot Kiana.”

“Is that really the reason?”

Bronya ruthlessly exposed her.

“Or is it because Big Sister Mei has to cook, so the only person left to play games with you is Bronya?”

“And because Idiot Kiana has absolutely no gaming experience when playing against Bronya, she desperately wants a new opponent she can actually beat?”

“You think I can’t beat you?!”

Kiana instantly bristled.

“I was going easy on you because you’re tiny!”

“All right, stop fighting.”

Mei smiled helplessly.

“Anyone who keeps arguing loses their chicken drumsticks tonight.”

Amid their usual bickering, the three finally reached Himeko’s villa.

“Something feels…”

“Different.”

Bronya floated near the entrance and frowned as she looked around.

“Huh?”

Kiana followed Bronya’s gaze from side to side.

She saw absolutely nothing unusual.

“Oh!”

“I know!”

Mei clapped her hands in realization.

“The area around the entrance was cleaned up.”

“Look.”

“The flowers and plants are much neater than they were this morning.”

While the three were still examining the changes outside—

The villa door suddenly opened.

A small head covered in smooth black hair peeked out.

The girl looked around with a puzzled expression.
