“I don’t know what the reward for clearing only one floor is, but if I stack enough of them, enhancing my original body is still a valid option.”

“Worst case, I just stay inside the System for two years.”

[That would work.]

[But the reward for clearing only the first floor is extremely small: one System Originium Ingot.]

[You need six to perform your first Elite promotion.]

[It’s not particularly efficient, but that should still enhance Host to roughly the physical and energy level of a B-rank Valkyrie.]

[You’d also receive one random Elite 1 Skill and Talent from the System.]

“Next is recruitment.”

Xia Ling stared at the four recruitment Squad options in thought.

“I can already guess that my ‘team’ is probably going to consist entirely of me.”

“But you don’t even give temporary Reserve Operators?”

[Host, recruitment here works differently from the game.]

[Standard Recruitment can only recruit characters you already possess. Right now, that list consists solely of yourself.]

[Support Recruitment is based on your friends in reality. You can recruit allied units from people you know.]

[Unfortunately, Host has not yet interacted with a single living human being in this world.]

[Temporary Recruitment is more unusual… That mechanic was originally prepared for the Elysian Realm roguelike module.]

[It’s mostly useless under this theme. Unless you trigger something like the Cipher Plate Debate collaborative event, Temporary Recruitment won’t give you an Operator.]

“Right.”

“So whichever one I choose, I can only recruit myself.”

Xia Ling shrugged and tapped the final Squad.

“Do As You Please.”

Three recruitment permits immediately appeared.

She opened the first—

Advanced Sniper Recruitment Permit.

Xia Ling’s own portrait appeared prominently on the screen.

The black-haired girl smiled toward the viewer as though encouraging herself from the other side.

“My ID photo is actually pretty cute.”

She opened the remaining two permits.

As expected—

Empty.

Once Squad selection was complete, the two tents in the camp changed.

Their flaps opened automatically, revealing the interiors.

[The left tent stores starting equipment, including Cipher Plates, Collectibles, and detection equipment.]

[The larger tent on the right contains equipment for your team members.]

[Of course, Host has no teammates this time, so it only contains your weapon.]

“A weapon?”

Xia Ling curiously ducked inside the right tent.

A moment later, she emerged carrying a sniper rifle.

“A sniper?”

“Is this because I recruited myself using a Sniper permit?”

[More precisely, an Advanced Sniper permit.]

[If you’d used an ordinary Sniper permit, you might have received a bow or crossbow instead.]

“This System has surprisingly coherent logic in the strangest places.”

Xia Ling then entered the left tent and emerged carrying a very large backpack.

“I never imagined Cipher Plates were physically this huge…”

She laboriously placed the pack beside the campfire and pulled out a complicated black box.

The box had a screen showing what appeared to be a map of her current surroundings.

A small 3 was displayed in the upper-right corner.

Another message also appeared on the detector.

[Upon clearing this floor, obtain Cipher Plate: Arbor.]

“So this is what the detector looks like.”

Xia Ling fiddled with the black box.

“I remember the first floor of Sami is called Firstfrost Lake.”

“Guess that blue region on the screen is it.”

[Correct.]

[Since Host is entering personally, it obviously can’t be represented by linear nodes like the game.]

[The System generated the entire physical map.]

[However, your selectable routes still follow normal logic. Taking vertical branches will reduce Anti-Interference Index.]

[This isn’t an open world, after all. It still has to obey the enhancement module’s underlying rules.]

“Now, what Cipher Plates did I get…?”

Xia Ling set the detector aside and pulled three wrapped stone tablets from the backpack.

Each real Cipher Plate was roughly the size of a book.

Three stacked together were surprisingly heavy.

She spread them out in front of her.

Her eyes immediately lit up.

“Silence.”

“Arrival.”

“Love?”

“Seriously?!”

“A god-tier opening on my very first run!”

[Host suffered badly enough during transmigration.]

[Surely you deserve a little luck for once.]

The System’s voice contained the faintest trace of smugness.

“Then I’d better thank whoever blessed me with that luck.”

Xia Ling smiled and mentally gave the System’s tiny intervention a thumbs-up.

“Now, time to move.”

“Let me check the map…”

Xia Ling strapped on the backpack, slung the sniper rifle over her shoulder, and activated the detector.

“The left route leads toward a camp beside a deep pool.”

“The right route leads toward a village looted by Siracusans…”

“This should be…”

“Four Strikes and Moss Hand?”

Xia Ling frowned in thought.

[Correct. Host really is familiar with Integrated Strategies.]

The System quietly hid the reference sheet it had been holding and offered some extremely guilty praise.

“But which one should I take?”

Xia Ling recalled the enemy compositions.

“Neither stage has particularly few enemies, right?”

“Oh, System.”

“What are my victory conditions for combat nodes?”

[Because this is real combat, the enhancement module simplified the objective.]

[Host only needs to eliminate all enemies inside the stronghold.]

[There is no equivalent of base HP.]

[HP and Shield bonuses from Collectibles and rewards are instead directly applied to squad members.]

“Perfect.”

“Then I don’t have to worry about Defenders only blocking three.”

Xia Ling confidently set the detector’s navigation toward Moss Hand.

“Me and my Defender are about to absolutely farm these guys!”

Following the detector’s directions, Xia Ling left camp and walked along the road for roughly five or six minutes.

Soon, the display indicated she was approaching the village.

“There’s one thing I desperately want to complain about.”

Looking at the village still smoking from a recent fire, Xia Ling’s mouth twitched.

“There’s this much snow.”

“I’m already struggling just to walk.”

“Why did a bunch of Siracusans come all the way out here?”

[Excellent question.]

[Unfortunately, these enemies can’t speak. Otherwise I’d love to hear their explanation too.]

The System joined Xia Ling in verbally assaulting the stage designer.

“Anyway.”

“If I go any farther, I’ll enter the node.”

“How do I activate the Cipher Plates?”

[Simply stack the corresponding Layout and Origin plates together.]

“Got it.”

Xia Ling returned the Love plate to her backpack and unwrapped the remaining two.

A red plate engraved with a fortress—

[Silence]

And a tricolor plate bearing mountains—

[Arrival]

Xia Ling took a deep breath and pressed Arrival against Silence.

[Beginning Declaration.]

[Quoadi Concordance: Clan activated.]

[Across mountain and river, at last we arrive; fate cannot be denied. Ask wood the road and receive no answer; stone stands silent beneath the sky.]

The two Cipher Plates erupted with dazzling radiance.

Xia Ling narrowed her eyes.

When the light finally faded—

A warrior stood silently before her.

He wore heavy black armor.

In his hands was a massive shield glowing with an intimidating blue light.
