Scripture Hall
After half an hour of walking, Chen Fang finally arrived in front of a five-story pagoda surrounded by wooden quarters.
A large number of disciples were going in and out of the pagoda, some with technique manuals in their hands while others wore smiles on their faces, committing everything to memory.
"Lin Xuan, that Hawk Flying Step… it seems like I'll have to drop learning it."
"Why? Did you accept defeat already?"
"Well, yeah. Here are three spirit stones—you win. Instead of focusing on that technique, I feel like I can make some real advancement in my cultivation, which is a far better result."
Hearing the disciples talking about their daily lives and bets instead of trash-talking others, Chen Fang smiled. This was how a cultivation world was supposed to be.
However, his happy moment did not last long as a heavy voice interrupted his journey.
"Oh, what is today's occasion that Elder Chen is bestowing the Scripture Hall with his presence?"
It was the Scripture Hall elder, Wu Zhen, sitting on a mahogany chair near the entrance of the pagoda, with a long stick in his hand that was currently blocking Chen Fang's path.
"Elder Wu." Chen Fang greeted the Scripture Hall elder. "I'm here to borrow a few techniques for my disciples."
"Ha ha. So Elder Chen accepting a few trash disciples from that dumpster of a place called the Servant Pavilion was true." Elder Wu raised a brow, trying to humiliate Chen Fang.
Chen Fang knew what this man wanted to do. He simply smiled and replied, deciding it was still not the right time to let them know who the real boss was. "Well, about that place being a dumpster, Elder Wu is right—since that place has an idiotic steward who doesn't even know how to manage anything."
Elder Wu's smile froze for a moment; he had not expected this "trash" to refute him like that. However, he already had a perfect reply ready. "Does it matter whether you agree or not? Trash is trash in the end." Saying that, Elder Wu's mocking smile widened immediately.
"Well, everyone has their own perspective about others. Some just look at others with the same lenses they use when looking at themselves in the mirror, so that can't be helped." Chen Fang said, then nodded toward the flabbergasted Elder Wu.
"Then I'll take my leave. I only have a month before the Sect's grand competition."
With that, Chen Fang walked toward the entrance of the pagoda and simply walked in.
He left Elder Wu wondering whether Chen Fang had praised him or given him a piece of his mind that he couldn't comprehend.
Looking at others with the same lens one uses to look at oneself in the mirror… That must be a way to praise others, Elder Wu thought with a sigh.
This guy Chen Fang was surely good with his words.
…
Walking inside the scripture pagoda, Chen Fang used his authority as an elder and immediately went to the fourth level of the library.
Hopefully I'll be able to find something about dual cultivation and those herbs, he thought as he began to wander around.
There was an easier way to find those herbs—going to the Sect Leader. That man would definitely have helped him. But realizing how damaged his own image was, and how that also affected the Sect Leader, Chen Fang decided it was not a good idea to approach him unless it was absolutely necessary.
He picked up the scripture and immediately read through it, realizing that this technique matched quite well with his Chao Yang Body. It used pure Yang energy to attack the foe and dealt a great amount of damage that could not be blocked easily.
"Alright, I'll take you." With that, Chen Fang immediately stored the technique in his system storage and continued his search for what he had come for.
As he roamed the fourth floor, he came across many other great techniques that he felt would be excellent for both Su Qingxue and Yang Kai. But both of them had yet to overcome their current problems, so giving them those techniques might be too much at the moment.
After spending more than two hours browsing, Chen Fang finally found what he was looking for—a thick book titled Taboo Scriptures.
The little book was hidden in the far corner of the fourth floor.
If Chen Fang had not been resolute enough in his search, he might never have found it.
Opening the book, Chen Fang noticed that there were only three sections written in it. The first one was, of course, Dual Cultivation introduction.
[Dual Cultivation is a technique that merges Yin with Yang while suppressing any impurities and helping the dao partners advance in their realms. However, one should note that this technique is highly corrosive. Once a cultivator becomes too dependent on this technique, they often encounter heart demons, and without a suitable partner they may even fall into qi deviation.]
The first few pages were full of such content, listing the pros and cons of the technique. Chen Fang agreed with some of them—especially the part about the technique being addictive and making one unwilling to switch to other methods of cultivation.
Well, let's continue and see what else this thing has to say. With that thought, he pushed the pros and cons to the back of his mind and turned the page.
The moment he turned the page, a dozen images began to flash in front of him.
"Holy fuck…" Chen Fang almost yelled. Thankfully he was alone on the fourth floor. Did the cultivators of this world really know all these positions? Looking at the illustrations, Chen Fang couldn't help but feel like a complete newbie in this field.
Even that position in the air is mentioned here. Chen Fang explored the images one by one and felt his knowledge increasing bit by bit.
Before he knew it, he had already reached the third section of the book, which explained how to properly utilize Yin and Yang energy while performing Dual Cultivation.
