The translucent pink screen hovered silently before Jason, its soft glow casting a faint tint across his stunned face.
[Congratulations]
[All activation requirements have been fulfilled]
[Wealth Rebate System successfully activated]
For several long seconds Jason simply stared at the screen, his mind refused to process what his eyes were looking at.
The apartment had been empty just a moment ago but now, a glowing screen floated in front of him naturally as if it had always belonged there.
His breathing unconsciously slowed, his eyes darting around the room, searching for anything that could explain what he was seeing.
Nothing was found
The apartment was exactly the same.
The torn flower petals still littered the floor.
His phone remained at the exact spot where it had slipped from his hand.
Nothing else had changed only the presence of the pink screen hovering right in front of him
A strange chill crept up his spine causing him to take an uncertain step backward.
The screen was unrelenting and moved backwards with him.
"What the hell?"
Jason froze
His voice came out far quieter than he intended.
Almost cautious at this point, as though speaking too loudly might somehow provoke whatever this thing was.
His heart had begun hammering against his ribs. This was the instinctive fear that came whenever reality suddenly stopped behaving the way it was supposed to.
His throat felt dry and slowly, he extended a hand toward the floating window before hesitating halfway.
"Am I hallucinating?"
The thought sounded reasonable.
Far more reasonable than believing a glowing interface had simply appeared in his apartment.
He closed both of his eyes and rubbed them with his hands before opening them again but the screen remained where it was and pink
"No way, I knew I was slowly going mad but this time it is certain. I’m definitely losing it this time around"
He took another breath.
"I’m definitely losing it."
Yesterday he had confessed to the girl he’d loved for years and this morning he discovered she’d been mocking him behind his back.
Now a pink screen was congratulating him for something he couldn’t even understand.
"Yeah."
"That tracks."
A short, helpless laugh escaped him.
It wasn’t genuine amusement.
It was the kind of laugh people let out when reality became so absurd that their brains stopped trying to make sense of it.
He looked back at the notification.
But this time instead of panicking he actually decided to read it and know what it is all about.
Wealth Rebate System.
The words stirred a distant memory.
Systems, Leveling, Daily quests and Overpowered protagonists.
He had read enough web novels to recognize the concept immediately.
A ridiculous thought surfaced inside his head, one so ridiculous that he almost laughed again.
"No way."
His eyes narrowed at the glowing text.
"This! Isn’t that one of those system things from novels?"
He scratched the back of his head, still unable to believe he was saying the words aloud.
"So you’re telling me that I actually have a system?"
The sentence sounded just as unbelievable after leaving his mouth he looked around the apartment once more, half-expecting hidden cameras to jump out or someone to yell that he’d been pranked just like they do on all the videos he has been watching on social media
Silence answered him
Jason slowly looked back at the notification now accepting that it was reality
His heartbeat, which had been racing wildly moments ago, gradually settled.
The fear remained but now something else quietly pushed its way to the surface.
Curiosity
His gaze settled on the second line
[All activation requirements have been fulfilled]
"Requirements?"
He frowned.
"What requirements?"
"I never signed up for anything."
"I didn’t perform some ancient ritual."
"I didn’t save the world."
His brows knitted together.
"If there were activation requirements then what exactly did I do?"
His mind instinctively began retracing everything that had happened over the last twenty-four hours.
"Don’t tell me!"
His expression turned strange.
"So the requirement was getting my heart completely shattered?"
A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"If that’s true then whoever designed this thing has a seriously twisted sense of humor"
He let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head.
Before Jason could dwell any further on the question, the translucent screen flickered gently.
A soft chime echoed through the apartment.
Ding.
The previous notification faded, its letters dissolving into tiny particles of light before new lines slowly took their place.
[Host has successfully fulfilled all activation requirements]
Jason instinctively straightened.
"It can answer me?"
A strange feeling settled over him.
Until now, he’d assumed the screen was nothing more than a prerecorded interface, something that simply displayed information.
The fact that it had responded to the exact question he’d asked moments ago made it feel alive.
More words appeared.
[Activation Requirement:]
[Reach the lowest emotional state possible while retaining the will to continue living]
Jason’s pupils narrowed.
The screen continued.
[Host endured prolonged emotional neglect, repeated rejection, and complete collapse of self-worth without surrendering to despair.]
[Sanity maintained]
[Qualification confirmed]
He read the sentences once and then again and then a third time.
A dry laugh escaped him.
"So I had to completely ruin my life first?"
The words tasted almost ironic.
Yesterday, he would’ve cursed whatever higher power had been watching over him.
Now he wasn’t sure whether to laugh or be offended.
The notification shifted once more.
[Congratulations]
[Wealth Rebate System successfully activated]
[Preparing Core Functions]
A brief loading circle spun across the screen before several neatly organized windows unfolded one beneath another.
Jason’s eyes widened slightly.
The first window displayed his personal information.
Name: Jason Norman
Status: Active
Registered Women: 0
Account Balance: $147.56
"It even knows how broke I am."
Another window unfolded beneath it.
Core Mechanic — Wealth Rebate
Money spent on registered women will be refunded according to their current attraction toward the Host.
Rebate Multiplier = Attraction Percentage × 5%
Example:
Attraction: 40%
Rebate: 2× Amount Spent
Jason blinked.
His eyes quickly ran over the formula again.
"That’s"
Actually ridiculously simple.
"So if someone has twenty percent attraction I’d get my money back?"
His gaze immediately dropped to the example.
Forty percent.
Double reimbursement.
His mind began calculating almost instinctively.
Higher attraction meant higher returns.
His pulse quietly accelerated.
Another notification slid into view before he could think any further.
Daily Growth Quest
A superior future requires a superior body.
The Host’s current physical condition fails to meet minimum operational standards.
Complete daily:
• 20 Push-ups
• 20 Sit-ups
• 20 Squats
• 2 Kilometer Run
Reward: Daily Quest Completion Chest
Failure: Quest chain interrupted.
Jason stared at the quest window.
Then he looked down at himself at his average frame and a body he’d neglected for years.
The body he’d always promised himself he’d improve
"Fair enough."
He couldn’t even argue with it because the system wasn’t insulting him and was simply stating the truth.
A faint smile tugged at Jason’s lips. It was almost imperceptible, but unlike every smile he’d forced over the past few days, this one was real. Nothing had magically changed. His bank account was still nearly empty, his reflection was still painfully average, and Amanda’s rejection still lingered like a bruise that hadn’t faded. The hurt was still there, but for the first time, it no longer felt like the end of his story.
His gaze settled on the translucent screen before him. It wasn’t offering him instant success or a miracle. It was offering him something he hadn’t had in years, a direction. A chance to become someone different, one step at a time. Jason drew a slow breath, the weight on his shoulders feeling just a little lighter as his eyes fixed on the words glowing quietly before him.
