[Hidden Sovereign Option unlocked.]
[Option 4: Take Everything.]
Adrian read the message twice.
The three rewards remained suspended before him: the silhouette of the Temporal Warden, the Calamity Beast Class Soul, and the golden fragment of Temporal Dominion.
Any one of them would have justified entering a dungeon that had tried to kill them with monsters from centuries in the future.
Infinite Sovereign didn’t seem interested in choosing.
"What does the fourth option offer you?" Lyra asked.
"Everything."
Evelyn, still leaning against the gate, laughed before grimacing in pain.
"Of course. Even your class seems incapable of being reasonable."
"We understand each other."
Adrian focused on the final option. A new panel opened.
[Sovereign Distribution]
[A defeated entity may contain multiple independent inheritances.]
[Standard systems destroy all unselected inheritances during acquisition.]
[Infinite Sovereign can separate compatible inheritances without destroying the source core.]
[Warning: Distribution will reduce the registered unit’s original strength.]
[Class Soul integrity: 100%.]
[Authority fragment integrity: 100%.]
[Unit template integrity: 63%.]
[Dungeon control nucleus: Preserved.]
The explanation confirmed what Adrian had suspected. A standard system treated every defeated entity as a single reward. Absorbing the Class Soul would consume the creature’s record. Registering it as a unit would destroy the class. Transferring the core to Lyra would use both as fuel.
Infinite Sovereign saw four separate pieces where other systems saw only one choice.
"The unit will be weaker," Adrian said, "but I can preserve the complete class, transfer the authority to you, and keep the nucleus controlling the dungeon intact."
Lyra watched the golden fragment.
"What is the price?"
"It hasn’t shown me one yet."
"There is always a price."
"Then it’ll probably appear after it’s already too late for me to regret anything."
Evelyn raised her head.
"That isn’t a reason to do it."
Adrian selected the fourth option.
"No. It’s a reason to stop wasting time."
[Option 4 selected.]
[Initiating Sovereign Distribution.]
The black light filling the chamber stopped moving.
Then it entered his body.
Adrian felt the Class Soul first.
These weren’t human memories. There was no orderly life or decades of training for him to experience as he had with Starbreaker. Calamity Beast contained only hunger, survival, and evolution.
He saw a creature crawling across a dead world.
Its skin burned beneath a black sun.
It adapted.
Its bones shattered under the weight of the planet’s gravity.
It adapted.
Other beasts devoured its flesh, the skies crushed it, and poisonous mana transformed its organs.
Every time something tried to kill it, its body retained a response.
It didn’t learn techniques.
It became something that could no longer die the same way.
The experience entered Adrian’s muscles like molten metal.
[Calamity Beast acquired.]
[Class Level: 1.]
[Class Rank: Legendary.]
[Skill acquired: Adaptive Carapace.]
[Skill acquired: Calamity Heart.]
[Adaptive Carapace]
[Damage received from a source generates temporary resistance against that source.]
[Repeated exposure may convert temporary resistance into permanent adaptation.]
[Calamity Heart]
[Physical performance increases according to accumulated damage.]
[Warning: Excessive accumulation may produce loss of control.]
A black texture appeared over Adrian’s wounded arm. It wasn’t a complete suit of armor. Small overlapping plates grew around the puncture and stopped the bleeding.
Starforged Body reacted immediately.
The skill’s metallic reinforcement merged with Calamity Beast’s black carapace. One distributed damage; the other learned from it.
[Compatible defensive abilities detected.]
[Potential fusion recorded.]
Adrian flexed his fingers.
"That will be useful."
Lyra studied the plates covering his skin.
"It will also be dangerous."
"Most useful things are."
The second part of the reward descended.
The Temporal Warden’s silhouette lost two of its arms, its humanoid torso, and the ring of twelve fragments. Its enormous body compressed until it took the form of a quadrupedal beast nearly ten feet long.
The black carapace remained, as did the mouthless white face.
Three temporal fragments floated around its neck.
[Unit template reconstructed.]
[Temporal Warden registration impossible at current integrity.]
[Searching for compatible reduced form...]
[Compatible form detected.]
[Calamity Hound registered.]
[Unit Rank: A.]
[Current Level: 20.]
[Unit Skills: Rift Pursuit, Temporal Bite, Lesser Restoration.]
[Army position: Vanguard Beast.]
A new presence appeared inside Sovereign Territory.
Adrian felt it walking around his Star Guards. The creature sniffed each soldier, bared its teeth when it reached the swordsman, and received a strike from the flat of his blade.
The Calamity Hound sat down.
"It seems obedient," Adrian said.
"You summoned a creature?"
"A reduced version of the boss."
Evelyn closed her eyes for a moment.
"Of course. Because defeating an A-Rank beast and stealing its class wasn’t enough."
"I didn’t steal it. He died and stopped needing it."
Adrian opened a small rift and extended one hand.
The Calamity Hound pushed its head out of Sovereign Territory. Its white mask turned toward Evelyn.
She instinctively reached for a sword she no longer possessed.
"Put it away."
"I only wanted to introduce you."
"Adrian."
"It hasn’t bitten you yet."
"Put it away."
The Hound withdrew when Adrian closed the rift. Before disappearing, it released a low sound that resembled laughter far too closely.
The third inheritance began to move.
The fragment of Temporal Dominion floated toward Lyra but stopped before touching her.
[Compatible General confirmed.]
[Authority conversion initiated.]
[Recipient: Lyra Voss.]
[Current restoration: 0.4%.]
[Estimated restoration after transfer: 2.1%.]
Lyra remained perfectly still.
Adrian noticed her fingers tightening around the hilt of her sword.
"I can stop it," he said.
"Why would you?"
"Because you asked about the price."
"The fragment belonged to a creature sent to kill you. Any connection to whoever sent it must be destroyed before I integrate it."
Adrian studied the golden energy.
"Infinite Sovereign, remove all external influence."
[Analyzing Authority fragment.]
[Foreign command detected.]
[Command: Locate and eliminate Adrian Vale.]
[Command can be isolated.]
[Remove foreign command?]
"Do it."
The fragment trembled.
A black line emerged from within it. For one second, it assumed the shape of an eye staring directly at Adrian. Lyra drew her sword and pierced it before it could react.
The line disappeared.
[Foreign command destroyed.]
[Authority fragment purified.]
"Now," Lyra said.
The energy entered her chest.
Her silver hair rose as though a storm had been born inside the chamber. A circle of symbols appeared behind her, and the pressure of her presence forced the students to retreat.
Even Evelyn held her breath.
Adrian had witnessed a small portion of that presence in the future when Lyra confronted him through a combat copy. This still didn’t approach her original strength, but the difference was unmistakable.
The woman who had fought beside him until now had been a weakened shadow.
The one who opened her eyes possessed something of the ancient goddess of war.
[Authority fragment absorbed.]
[General restoration completed.]
[Lyra restoration: 0.4% → 2.1%.]
[War God’s Instinct synchronization increased.]
[General Skill restored: Battlefield Dominion.]
The remaining spatial rifts closed.
Adrian hadn’t done it.
Lyra merely looked toward them, and the temporal energy trapped within the chamber obeyed.
"That was attractive," he said.
The pressure disappeared.
"Do not mistake power for interest."
"I can appreciate them separately."
Lyra sheathed her sword.
"Your body has been punctured, several of your ribs are broken, and you can barely remain standing."
"But you didn’t say I was wrong."
Before she could answer, the preserved nucleus descended toward Adrian.
It was much smaller than either of the Warden’s hearts. A blue sphere the size of a fist remained concealed beneath several temporal layers.
The creature had used the dungeon’s nucleus as an anchor to enter the present. Destroying the Warden would have caused the entire structure to collapse.
Sovereign Distribution had preserved it.
[Dungeon control nucleus preserved.]
[Previous ownership signature: Modified Future Authority.]
[Ownership signature removed.]
[Unclaimed Dungeon Core detected.]
[Register ownership?]
Adrian selected the option without hesitation.
[Dungeon Core registered.]
[Owner: Adrian Vale.]
[Dungeon: Hollow Station.]
[Original Classification: E.]
[Hidden Sector Classification: C.]
[Current Core Rank: A.]
[Temporal contamination: 38%.]
[Core functions available: Access Control, Resource Claim, Basic Reconstruction.]
The dungeon reacted.
The distorted walls returned to their original positions. Corridors that had disappeared restored themselves one after another, and the ceiling of the maintenance chamber stopped creaking.
A current of mana traveled through Hollow Station, and every emergency door opened.
[Dungeon ownership recognized.]
[Emergency lockdown terminated.]
[All surviving entrants granted exit access.]
The final portion of the nucleus divided into hundreds of particles and entered Adrian.
[Perfect Distribution achieved.]
[Calamity Beast acquired.]
[Calamity Hound registered.]
[Lyra restoration: 0.4% → 2.1%.]
[Hollow Station ownership acquired.]
[Perfect Clear achieved.]
Adrian studied the summary.
He had entered the dungeon with two classes, five Future Soldiers, and a weakened general.
He was leaving with a Legendary class, five Star Guards, an A-Rank beast, a Lyra restored to more than five times her previous strength, and ownership of a Dungeon Core.
"That seems fair," he said.
Evelyn looked as though she was considering hitting him with the metal bar.
"There is nothing fair about what you just received."
"You earned an eight-percent contribution."
"I lost my sword and broke two more ribs."
"You also kept your life."
"That was already mine."
Adrian offered her a hand.
"Then we’ll add a new sword to the dinner debt."
Evelyn accepted his hand and rose with difficulty.
"You’re paying for the sword."
"We’ll negotiate after you can walk without leaning on me."
She immediately released his hand, took one step, and had to grab his arm again.
Adrian smiled.
"An excellent negotiation."
The rescue teams entered eleven minutes later.
They found six injured students, an Evelyn Hart with three broken ribs, five soldiers wearing unknown armor, and Adrian sitting on the remains of the Temporal Warden while Lyra stood beside him.
The first examiner needed several seconds to speak.
"Where is the boss?"
Adrian pointed toward the fragments scattered throughout the chamber.
"In several places."
"The external registry detected an A-Rank presence."
"It was A-Rank."
"Who defeated it?"
Evelyn answered before he could.
"Adrian executed the final strike. Lyra destroyed its defenses, and I blocked its escape route."
The examiner looked at the six students.
They all nodded.
Then she turned toward the five Star Guards.
"And them?"
"Employees," Adrian said.
One of the soldiers inclined his head.
The woman decided not to ask.
Marcus Venn arrived with the second team. His expression changed when his device confirmed the condition of the nucleus.
"Hollow Station has a registered owner."
"Me," Adrian said.
"Public dungeons cannot be owned."
"Then you should probably explain that to the core."
Marcus opened the administrative interface. Adrian’s name appeared above every control function. He attempted to access the dungeon’s systems.
[Access denied.]
[Owner authorization required.]
"This belongs to Meridian Academy," Marcus said.
"The entrance belongs to the academy. So do the outer corridors. The core belongs to me."
"You cannot claim ownership of a national dungeon."
Adrian opened the contract he had negotiated before the expedition.
"I retain every object, resource, and reward I find inside. The academy accepted the clause."
Marcus read the section.
Then he read it again.
"A core is not an object."
"Then you shouldn’t have a problem with me taking it."
The silence that followed confirmed that they did, in fact, have a problem.
Adrian continued reviewing the report. Hollow Station produced mana crystals, spatial minerals, and small quantities of temporal material. Even while operating below half capacity, its monthly value exceeded what most newly Awakened would earn over several years.
Then there were the boss remains.
[Emergency Boss Elimination Bounty: 1,500,000 credits.]
[Recovered temporal materials — Provisional value: 6,360,000 credits.]
[Dungeon resource rights — Monthly estimate: 420,000 credits.]
[Total immediate estimated reward: 7,860,000 credits.]
Adrian showed Evelyn the figure.
"I think I can afford your sword."
"You’d better."
Every examiner’s device issued an alert simultaneously.
The boss’s defeat had been registered by the national system. Once Hollow Station reestablished its connection with the outside world, it transmitted the creature’s rank, the individual contribution records, and the identity of the core’s owner.
[NATIONAL AWAKENED NETWORK]
[Perfect Clear verified.]
[Dungeon: Hollow Station.]
[Highest threat defeated: Rank A.]
[Clear Leader: Adrian Vale.]
[Awakening age: 18.]
[Days since Awakening: 3.]
Some of the color drained from Marcus’s face.
"The ranking updates in five minutes."
"What ranking?" one of the students asked.
Evelyn already knew the answer.
"The National Rookie Ranking."
Their phones began to vibrate.
Marcus’s came first.
Then those of the examiners.
Finally, Adrian’s.
He received one hundred forty-seven messages in less than ten seconds. The five guilds that had tried to recruit him appeared among the first senders.
He ignored them all.
The ranking filled his screen.
[NATIONAL ROOKIE RANKING]
[1. Adrian Vale — Infinite Sovereign.]
[Verified achievements: Rank A Boss Kill, Perfect Clear, Dungeon Core Ownership.]
[Combat record: Under review.]
[National interest level: Maximum.]
Adrian’s photograph appeared beside the first-place position.
It had been taken during his Awakening evaluation, just after he destroyed the machine.
"That picture isn’t flattering," he said.
Evelyn stared at him in disbelief.
"You just became the most famous newly Awakened in the country."
"Exactly. They could have chosen a better one."
Lyra examined the screen over his shoulder.
"In my era, warriors earned recognition by conquering cities."
"I acquired a dungeon. It’s a start."
Adrian returned to his apartment after midnight.
The academy’s doctors had tried to hospitalize him. Calamity Beast had made the argument unnecessary: Adaptive Carapace had already closed the wound in his abdomen, while Starforged Body kept his ribs stable.
It still hurt.
Except now his body was learning from the pain.
Lyra stood in front of the window, testing the limits of her restored power. A small sphere of energy floated above her palm. Raindrops remained suspended within it.
"How much did you actually recover?" Adrian asked.
"Enough to kill the Warden without assistance if we encounter another."
"That would have been useful a few hours ago."
"I can also throw you through the window without approaching you."
"That part doesn’t sound new."
Adrian dropped onto the bed.
His phone continued receiving messages, offers, and interview requests. The number in his bank account had changed enough that he needed to count the digits.
He opened none of the messages.
After an A-Rank battle, his body wanted only to sleep.
He closed his eyes.
The system appeared before he lost consciousness.
[Perfect Clear reward processing completed.]
[Temporal Authority residue detected.]
[Modified future signature traced.]
Adrian opened his eyes again.
He wasn’t asleep yet.
A map of the future city appeared before him. Until now, he had only been able to access the territory surrounding Meridian’s ruins. Vast sections remained concealed beneath a black fog that Infinite Sovereign couldn’t penetrate.
A point began flashing beyond the known region.
It was three hundred twelve kilometers away.
[Future coordinate acquired.]
[New destination available.]
[Temporal distance: 10,000 years.]
[Distance from current territory: 312.4 kilometers.]
[Coordinate source: Modified Future.]
The map magnified the location.
It was a structure buried beneath what had once been another city. A name appeared above it.
[Sovereign Burial Site.]
Then one final message emerged.
[Living signal detected.]
