Compiled by: Dawnstead Branch Training Division

Typical Starter Quests:

Vermin Extermination - Rats, bugs, or worse in basements and barns.  • Note: Giant rats can be vicious. Wear boots.

Herb Gathering - Collect medicinal or alchemical plants in local wild zones.  • Note: Identifying different herbs is a necessity. - {Learn to tell redleaf from razorleaf. Seriously.}

Message Delivery - Simple, unless the recipient is being hunted.  • Note: Don’t ask what’s in the sealed letter. - {Avoid reading it. It can be gross.}

Escort Duties - Help a merchant, noble, or caravan reach the next town.  • Note: Expect to talk or fight off bandits. - {Some talk so… damn… much.}

Cleaning Stables / Tavern Work - Simple but honest work.  • Note: Not requested often, but easily the safest job. - {Safe, yes. You may actually miss it.}

Tips for Not Dying:

Always read the full quest description.• Don’t take extermination jobs in unfamiliar terrain.

• “Urgently needed” = probably bandits.

• Team up if unsure - better to split gold than guts.

• Report anything odd. The guild doesn’t like surprises. - {Unless they can charge for it.}

📝 Bryan’s Notes (in the margins):

“First job was exterminating basement rats. Easier than goblins…”• “Don’t trust any quest labeled ‘easy coin.’ You’ll either lose money, blood, or clothes.”

• “One guy I knew died tripping on a root during a herb quest. Root 1, adventurer 0.”

• “Escort quests should pay you for not murdering the client.”

• “My official advice: fake an injury and let someone else do it.”

Name: Giant Rat - {Trouser Destroyers}

Material Threat Level: Stone (solo), Iron (packs)

Habitat: Basements, sewers, storage cellars, anywhere damp and forgotten

Aggression Level: High

Intelligence: Low, but shockingly tactical in groups

Giant rats are the bane of low-ranked adventurers and urban homeowners alike. Ranging from housecat-sized to large-dog proportions, they’re fast, vicious, and rarely alone.

They often infest food stores, nesting in tight corners and shadowed spaces. Known for gnawing through wood, cloth, and the sanity of new adventurers.

- {Why are they that fast. Why.}

Bite and retreat tactics- {ankle assassins}

Pack coordination - flank, distract, overwhelm

Some can leap over waist-high obstacles or straight at your chest

Surprisingly agile for their size - {one dodged my sword. Rude.}

None - unless you count disease• Some older specimens may have scars or wounds from previous failed exterminations

Common extermination target in towns and villages

Stronger than expected: underestimating them has led to several deaths and at least one Copper-ranked adventurer dying of infected wounds.

Most deaths occur from unexpected numbers.

Tails or ears accepted as proof. Bonus pay if evidence suggests full nest cleared.

Kill bounty: 2 copper per tail

- {bring a bag. Or suffer.}

“Bit my ankle. My ankle. I’m a swordsman not a chew toy.”

“One of them leapt at my face. It dodged my slash. It knew.”

“Used my shirt to carry the tails. Smelled like rat for days. 0/10.”

“Woman said they were eating them. I haven’t known peace since.”

“Where’s the damn item box when you need it.”
