Chapter 9: Mad Prince And His Little Lapdog

Investing In Crippled Heroines: My Rewards Come In 10,000x Folds!

Han Lin left Lu Feng for a few minutes for him to get dressed after their earlier discussion and went down to wait for him. After about fifteen minutes, Lu Feng walked out of his room and headed down to meet with her.

They met up and with a smile, Han Lin spoke first. "Where are we heading first?"

Lu Feng thought for a moment before voicing out his response to her question.

"I was thinking of heading to the Slave Markets first but after much thought, I want it to be the last thing we’ll do before leaving." Lu Feng nodded at his decision before asking her. "What do you think?"

Han Lin replied with a shrug. "Sounds like a plan. I’m guessing we’ll be going to stock up on supplies then?"

Without a verbal answer, Lu Feng nodded and walked out of the Inn, Han Lin following right behind him without asking further questions.

It was bright outside, to the point that Lu Feng had to close his eyes for a moment to get his eyes adapted to the bright sunlight beating down on both of them.

As his eyes were closed, he could swear he heard Han Lin giggling at the back so the moment he felt like he could open his eyes, he turned to look at Ha Lin and noticed she had an umbrella over her to cover her from the sunlight. She was basically carrying protection against the terrible heat and rays of sunlight.

Lu Feng’s face twisted mildly as though he wanted to ask her. "Really?" But he didn’t speak.

He simply stared at her smiling for a second more before turning face front again to continue his journey into the shopping district for supplies.

As he turned face front, he noticed that at the leftmost corner of his eyes, he could see the timer still counting down with every heartbeat he could feel from his own chest.

[47:37:22...]

The countdown never stopped. He ignored it though. He still had enough time and knowing where he had to go to get what he wanted—even though it wasn’t totally guaranteed he would get it there—Lu Feng concluded he’d do it later.

Right now, supplies mattered more. However, he also has it in the back of his mind that if he encountered someone selling slaves or if their path to the Shopping District happened to lead to the Slave Markets, he would visit. That way, he’d be shopping for supplies and hunting for his first target simultaneously.

"Cooking two birds with one stove or however father’s saying goes." He murmured to himself as they continued down the path that would inevitably lead them to the Shopping District of Silver Jade City.

They soon arrive at the Shopping District after walking for over thirty minutes and Han Lin went on to give a list of things they would be needing for the journey.

Since they would be employing the service of a traveling agency to take them to their destination, there was accommodation as well as decent bed space—or something similar—alreazy provided by the company.

That left them with purchasing food. They had clothes that would serve till they got to their destination and if they wanted to get new ones, they could easily just get them there too.

Lu Feng and Han Lin purchased lots of dried meat that would last them for days. They also got cheese, thick loaves of bread, and water skins to hold enough water for their journey.

He noticed an attractive but small portable stove that was fueled by spirit stones. Fortunately or unfortunately, the stove came with two spirit stones which was enough to power the stove for almost half a year.

However, the moment he heard the price of the stove, Lu Feng knew they had to leave.

In fact, he grabbed Han Lin by the hand as he speedily walked out of the shop with the merchant calling him back saying they could haggle the price.

Lu Feng wasn’t having any of that.

"They cost ten gold coins but I’d be willing to sell them for nine and half." The moment he heard that statement, he knew he was out of there. Wasting more time would definitely be detrimental to his pockets and he wasn’t having that.

His body worked before his mind did.

Han Lin didn’t even know what had transpired before she was pulled out of the shop by Lu Feng.

"What was that?" She asked him after they’d walked over three meters away from the shop. She had even heard the man calling them back.

"I saw something very expensive and attractive so I decided to leave before we made a bad decision." He answered as honestly as he could.

Han Lin gave him a look of suspicion. "We? Or you?"

"We, Han Lin. We. We’re together in this." Lu Feng just shrugged and continued to walk down the path to look for more things they would probably need on their journey to start a new life.

She sighed and continued moving beside him as well. There was no point in furthering the discussion because she was well aware that he wouldn’t stop until he made sure to win their argument.

However, there was something else in mind and at that moment, she opened her mouth to ask what was in her mind.

"I know we both mentally agreed to leave by carriage." She started and Lu Feng nodded.

But his eyes told a different story. It was as though he was asking if there was another way to leave the city that didn’t involve using a carriage.

"However, did we stop to think about the downsides of using a carriage?" Han Lin paused her walking in the middle of the road which in turn made Lu Feng do the same.

He turned to her with both his hands holding on to the things they’d gotten so in the shopping district of the city.

He walked closer to her until they were just inches apart before he spoke. "I’m very aware of the downsides. The transport agencies keep records and if the Lu Family wanted to, they could get their hands on those records and use it to track us down."

Han Lin nodded. That was exactly what she’d been thinking about. What would stop the Lu Family from tracking them down if they left with the travel agencies? Nothing.

Except they chose not to. But she was almost sure a certain lecherous old man would do something about them leaving after Lu Feng’s act of soiling his plans to get Han Lin for himself.

However, Lu Feng wasn’t done speaking. "The alternative to travelling with a travel agency is to travel by ourselves and neither one of us is a cultivator so the odds of us surviving long enough for the Lu Family to even hunt or track us down is very close to zero."

He sighed and moved the items to one hand. Raising the now empty hand, he places it on her shoulder. "Honestly, I probably would’ve taken that chance if I was alone. If the bandits were to get to me, I’d know it was just me. However, I can’t take that chance with you. If something were to happen to you, there would be no forgiving myself."

Han Lin was at a loss for words. He’d simply just explained that he valued her own life even more than he did to his. She didn’t know what to say.

"Thank you." She murmured.

Lu Feng shrugged and turned. "Let’s go. We don’t have all day. Besides, I’m very certain I can deal with my family if it ever comes to that."

He took his first step and with a series of nods, Han Lin did the same, taking hurried steps until she was walking side by side with him.

They’d only moved a few meters and were about to take a turn towards a left path when Lu Feng heard a family voice.

"Well, if it isn’t the mad prince and his little lapdog."
