After telling the photographer to hold off for a while, Don Corleone steps back into the crowd and starts chatting with friends and relatives.

There’s an old saying: the underworld isn’t about fighting and killing—it’s about relationships and favors.

And the wedding party in The Godfather is one giant collection of iconic scenes.Full novel: I’ve Become Rip Wheeler — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The sequels do the same thing too: open with celebrations, music, dancing… and, of course, the Godfather dancing.

Meanwhile, Fredo Corleone moves through the crowd feeling both excited and exhausted.

The good news?

He’s getting a bunch of new skill fragments.

The bad news?

What the hell is this skill lineup?

Okay, sure—[Gambling Mastery], [Dart Throwing Mastery], [Knife Mastery], and [Driving Mastery] at least make sense for a mobster.

Guys in this business gamble, throw darts in bars, play with knives, and drive getaway cars.

Totally normal.

But what’s with [Sicilian Dance Mastery], [Sicilian Language Mastery], [Basic Painting Mastery], and [Basic Writing Mastery]?

Are they gangsters or aspiring art-school dropouts?

Planning to write memoirs between shootouts?

Still, these are only three-fragment skills, so they’re easy to complete.

Fredo chats with a few more guests, and the fragments practically fall out nonstop.

The moment he activates them, all kinds of random knowledge flood into his brain—dancing, painting, writing, gambling tricks, knife handling, darts…

Give him enough time and he could probably become some tortured European artist.

Too bad his odds of getting shot are currently much higher than his odds of hosting a gallery exhibition.

After thinking about it, Fredo realizes something.

Fragments seem to drop more easily when people get emotional.

Finally, he spots a shining target in the corner.

Standing alone like some forgotten background extra is the Corleone family’s deadliest enforcer—Luca Brasi.

Fredo walks over with a warm smile and offers his hand.

“Hey there.

I’m Fredo.”

Seeing Fredo approach, Luca Brasi immediately stands up nervously and shakes his hand.

” … I’m Luca Brasi.”

Fredo pretends to look pleasantly surprised.

I know who you are.

Heard you’re one hell of a fighter.

I’ve been getting into boxing and combat training lately.

Maybe sometime we should spar a little?”

Luca instantly lights up with excitement.

His huge hands practically don’t know where to go.

“I-I’m not that good.

But yeah!

Anytime, Fredo.

If you need anything, just tell me.”

“Good.

Then it’s a deal.”

‘Collected [Bull-Like Strength] Fragment ×1 (1/5).’

‘Collected [Bull-Like Strength] Fragment ×1 (2/5).’

Nice.

Fredo pats him on the shoulder happily after collecting the fragments.

“So what were you doing over here just now, Luca?”

The giant man smiles awkwardly and honestly.

“I’m waiting to see the Godfather later.

I’ve been practicing what I want to say.”

Fredo doesn’t laugh at him.

Instead, he reassures him seriously.

“It’s okay, Luca.

Relax.

You’ll do fine.

I’ll be beside my dad later too, so I’ll help you out if needed.”

Luca looks so touched he’s practically on the verge of tears.

“Thank you, Fredo.”

Even with Luca this emotional, only two fragments drop.

Fredo wisely decides not to push it further.

Too much enthusiasm starts looking suspicious.

As Fredo walks away, Luca Brasi feels overwhelmed with gratitude.

To him, being treated kindly by the Corleone family member is enough to make the words he’s memorizing suddenly seem much easier.

Later, Fredo finds Peter Clemenza after the big man finishes dancing.

Finally, another fragment appears.

‘Collected [Basic Mobster Skill Mastery] Fragment ×1 (2/3).’

‘Collected [Basic Mobster Skill Mastery] Fragment ×1 (3/3).

Skill complete.

Ready to activate.’

After a few rounds of shameless flattery, Clemenza nearly loses himself in the compliments again.

If the man had a suitable daughter, he’d probably try marrying her off to Fredo on the spot.

The second the final fragment drops, Fredo immediately retreats before things get weird.

Standing near the edge of the wedding party, he watches his father dancing with his mother in the center of the celebration.

At that moment, Clemenza’s trusted subordinate Paulie Gatto walks over to Sonny.

Looks like surveillance.”

And just like that, Hothead Sonny enters the scene.

He immediately storms outside, with Clemenza following behind him.

At the same time, Fredo notices Barzini nearby.

He quietly calls Mikey over.

“Mikey, see that old guy over there?

The one tossing the photo away?

Memorize his face.

That’s Barzini.

Got it?”

Mikey casually glances over a few times without drawing attention, then nods.

“Got it, boss.”

“Good.”

Not long afterward, Sonny returns looking irritated.

Then Tom Hagen waits until Don Corleone finishes dancing with his wife before stepping forward.

“The next person on the guest list is here to see you.”

After hearing that, Don Corleone heads back into the office.

Fredo follows him inside.

The Godfather’s office is open for business once again.

The second case of the day begins.

This time, the petitioner is Nazorine, the baker.

Nazorine gets straight to the point.

“…but in the end he received parole to fight for America.

For the last six months, he’s been working at my bakery.”

Unlike Bonasera earlier, Nazorine is someone Don Corleone genuinely considers a friend, so his tone is much warmer.

“Nazorine, my friend.

What can I do for you?”

Nazorine looks troubled.

“Now that the war is over, they want to deport this boy, Enzo, back to Italy.

Godfather… I have a daughter, and she and Enzo…”

Seeing his friend struggling to say it out loud, Don Corleone simply finishes the sentence for him.

“You want Enzo to stay in this country and marry your daughter.”

Nazorine instantly relaxes.

He jumps up and grabs Don Corleone’s hand.

“You truly understand people!”

“Thank you!”

Don Corleone shakes his hand in return.

The conversation is already over.

Nazorine knows the Godfather has agreed.

So before leaving, he turns to Tom Hagen.

“Thank you, Mr.

Hagen!”

Then he nods politely toward Fredo before reaching the door and turning back again with a huge grin.

“Wait until you see the wedding cake I made for your daughter!

This tall!

And there’s a bride, groom, and angels on top!”

The contrast between him and Bonasera couldn’t be clearer.

When it comes to real friends, Don Corleone is incredibly generous.

He agrees to help almost immediately, without hesitation, and even helps say the words his friend is too embarrassed to speak himself.
