Bleach and bones

Killer Maid’s Pride

The heavy oak doors of the Bishop’s private study clicked shut behind Elara, instantly muffling the distant, echoing hymns of the cathedral.

Inside, the room was suffocating. Thick, crimson velvet drapes blocked out the afternoon sun, leaving the space illuminated only by candles flickering in heavy silver candelabras. Every surface—from the massive mahogany desk to the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves—was coated in a fine, glittering layer of gray powder.

To a layman, it looked like regular dust. To a professional cleaner with an assassin’s eye, it was unmistakable: Void-Dust residue.

"Mochi," Elara whispered into her lace collar, setting her bucket of neutralizing solvents down with a soft, clinical clink. "The room is contaminated. He isn't just cutting the incense here; he's running the entire distribution ledger out of this office."

"Figures," Mochi’s voice crackled back, tinged with a sharp, predatory focus. "Hops has the back courtyard covered, and Fen is keeping an eye on the guard shifts. You’ve got a clear five-minute window before the deacon rounds the corridor for the afternoon inspection."

"Copy that. Initiating deep clean."

Elara pulled a fresh, crisp microfiber cloth from her apron pocket. She bent over the desk to begin wiping the surface, sweeping the cloth across the mahogany desk in smooth, flawless strokes.

Swish. Swish.

The gray powder disappeared into the cloth, revealing a hidden compartment beneath the desk's leather blotter. Elara slid the panel open. Inside lay a small, velvet-lined ledger stamped with the crest of the Under-Guild, detailing shipments of "Holy Incense" directly to the city's wealthy elite.

"Got the ledger," Elara murmured, slipping the compact booklet securely into the deep pocket of her apron, right alongside her high-tension garrote wire.

H.U.D. OBJECTIVE COMPLETED:

Secondary: Locate Void-Dust Ledgers.

XP Awarded: +2,000 (Maid/Infiltration)

Before she could close the compartment, the sound of heavy, rhythmic footsteps echoed from the hallway outside. It wasn't the deacon. The stride was too heavy, the click of the boots too deliberate.

"Master!" Hops’ voice cut through the comms, frantic. "The Bishop is heading back to the study early. He forgot his ceremonial key. You have thirty seconds!"

Elara didn't panic. She smoothly closed the hidden panel, tossed the soiled cloth into her bucket, and took up her feather duster, adopting a picture-perfect posture of diligent, vacant servitude right beside the bookshelf.

The heavy oak doors swung open. Bishop Bailey stepped into the room, his jaw tight, his eyes instantly darting to his desk. He stopped dead when he saw the "Head Maid" standing quietly in the corner, her head bowed in humble reverence, her feather duster raised at a perfect, professional forty-five-degree angle.

"Sister Elara," Bailey murmured, his eyes narrowing as he took in the immaculate, dust-free surface of his desk. "You work quickly."

"A clean environment invites a clean soul, Excellency," Elara replied, her voice a cool, clinical melody.

Bishop Bailey stepped further into the study, the heavy oak doors clicking shut behind him with an ominous, final thud. He didn't look at Elara; his cold, calculating gaze was fixed entirely on his desk, scanning the polished mahogany for any sign that his secrets had been disturbed.

"The deacon mentioned you were thorough, Sister," Bailey murmured, his hand idly drifting to the heavy ceremonial key hanging from his gold-embroidered belt. "But curiosity in a house of faith can be... a dangerous stain."

"I only focus on the dirt left behind, Excellency," Elara replied, her voice a pitch-perfect imitation of mindless, obedient servitude.

"A commendable attitude," Bailey said, finally turning his back to her as he reached for a crystal decanter on the side table. "Ensure the archives below are handled with the same discretion. If the Capital investigator finds so much as a speck of... unusual dust..."

He never finished the sentence.

Elara moved. There was no dramatic flourish, no rustle of silk, and absolutely no noise. To the system, she was an apex predator; to the room, she was just a shadow clearing away a blemish.

She glided across the polished floorboards, her wide, predatory stride perfectly masking the heavy, pulsing tension beneath her skirts. Before the Bishop could even lift the glass to his lips, Elara’s left hand clamped over his mouth like a vice, her fingers crushing his jaw to stifle any scream.

With her right hand, she snapped the high-tension silk garrote wire taut.

Zip.

The wire caught him squarely under the chin. Bailey’s eyes widened in sheer, suffocating terror as he was violently yanked backward against her front. Elara stood like a statuesque monolith, her feet planted wide as she held him in a flawless, clinical chokehold.

He thrashed, his expensive silk robes rustling frantically, but Elara’s grip was absolute. She didn't use blades. Blades spilled fluids, and fluids made a mess.

Crunch.

With a precise, powerful twist of her wrists, she collapsed his trachea. The Bishop’s movements instantly slowed, his body going limp as his spirit was permanently "evicted" from the premises.

SYSTEM ALERT:

Target Neutralized: Bishop Bailey (Corrupt)

Execution Style: Stainless Sanitization (No Spillage)

XP Awarded: +1,800 (Assassin)

Class Bonus: +1,200 (Maid Multiplier — Clean Workplace)

Elara didn't drop him. Carefully, professionally, she guided his limp form into the heavy velvet armchair behind the desk, arranging his robes so they fell in elegant, undisturbed folds. She placed his hands neatly over his chest, tilting his head slightly forward as if he had simply drifted off into a deep, meditative prayer.

She stepped back, checking her uniform in the vanity mirror. Not a hair out of place. Her apron was pristine white.

"Mochi," Elara whispered into her collar, her breathing completely level. "The main stain has been dissolved. Is the path to the crypts clear?"

"Like a freshly polished mirror, Master," Mochi’s voice giggled back. "The deacon just went to the refectory. Time to clean out the basement."

Elara picked up her bucket and her feather duster, her 'rolling pin' giving one final, heavy throb of pure satisfaction before settling back into its resting weight.

[ MAIN TARGET: ELIMINATED ]

[ NEXT PHASE: LOCK DOWN THE CRYPT EVIDENCE ]

The iron door leading down into the crypts didn't squeak. Elara had personally oiled the hinges during her preparatory sweep, ensuring her descent into the Cathedral’s underbelly was as silent as a falling feather.

The air grew progressively colder as she walked down the winding stone stairs, the cloying scent of the "Healing Incense" turning thick and chemical. Down here, the hollow, rhythmic thrumming of the Cathedral’s grand boilers echoed through the chambers, providing a perfect acoustic blanket for a squad of professional cleaners.

"We're in," Elara murmured, stepping into the primary vaulted chamber.

The room was vast, lined with the ancient stone sarcophagi of past prelates. But the center of the room had been converted into a highly sophisticated, completely illegal processing lab. Glass vats bubbled with a thick, violet sludge, and long wooden drying racks were piled high with raw Void-Dust that had been cut with cheap mana-drift to increase the volume.

"Oh, look at this mess," Mochi muttered, dropping down from a ceiling buttress with her daggers already drawn. She wrinkled her nose, looking genuinely offended. "They didn't even bother to sweep the trimmings off the table. It’s like they want to trigger an alchemical explosion."

"We aren't here to fix their workspace safety, Mochi. We’re here to liquidate the assets," Elara said, setting her bucket down.

"Hops, Fen, secure the extraction perimeter. Lyra, keep your ears open for the deacon," Elara ordered, her voice a sharp, clinical rasp.

"Master, I found the transport crates," Hops whispered from the back storage bay, dragging out a heavy, iron-bound chest. "They've already packed the pure crystals for the high-end clients in the Upper District."

"Bag them," Elara commanded, her hands moving with blinding speed as she began pouring a specialized neutralizing solvent—a heavy-duty bleach compound she’d mixed herself—directly into the bubbling vats of violet sludge.

The violet liquid instantly turned a dull, lifeless gray, the magical potency of the drug dissolving under the clinical assault of her cleaning agents.

With the vats neutralized and the pure contraband safely packed into the Pride’s discreet duffel bags, Elara stood back to survey the room.

To an investigator, it would look like a botched batch of basic incense had created a toxic reaction, causing the overworked, elderly Bishop upstairs to suffer a sudden, tragic asphyxiation while in deep prayer. The evidence was gone; the market was cornered; and the Pride was about to walk out the front door completely undetected.

"And this time," Mochi grinned, hoisting a heavy sack of crystals over her shoulder, "we buy the reinforced ones."
