Yui smiled and looked at Ran.
“Now tell me…
what’s your story?”
Ran smiled lightly and was about to say something, but then he noticed that both Yui and Lina had fallen asleep.
Lina was sleeping peacefully with her head resting on Yui’s shoulder, while Yui, even in her half-asleep state, was mumbling softly—
“What’s your story…
tell me…”
Seeing this, a gentle smile appeared on Ran’s face.
The cool night breeze flowed softly around them.
Above, the stars sparkled in the quiet sky, and the moment was filled with a strange sense of peace and silence.
Ran looked up at the sky and slowly began to speak—
“If I look back at my life…
it has been quite difficult.”
“I lost everything that was most precious to me.
Little by little, I became someone who didn’t even understand the meaning of right and wrong…
love…
or belonging.”
He fell silent for a moment.
Then a faint, gentle smile appeared on his face.
“But then…
Aiko came into my life.”
For the first time, a different light could be seen in his eyes.
“She changed me…
from a cold and distant person into a kind and caring one.”
Ran slowly lowered his gaze.
“But now…
she’s no longer with me.”
The night breeze gently brushed through his hair.
“I’m trying to live without her…
He looked back at the stars.
“Even so…
there are reasons why I have to keep moving forward.
I have to live…
and I will.”
For a while, he simply sat there, quietly gazing at the night sky.
Then he looked lovingly at the sleeping Yui and Lina and spoke in a very soft voice—
“Good night…
you two.”
That night, for the first time, there was not only pain on Ran’s face, but also a small sense of peace.
