Chapter 8: break the seal

Knotted By The Devilish Alpha Brothers

Amelia remained slumped against the carriage wheel. Blood trickled slowly from her temple, tracing the same path as the tears that refused to stop falling. Her breathing came in uneven shudders, and every breath made the crushing ache in her chest feel worse.

It hurt. Far more than the whip. Far more than every wound she had endured over the past two weeks. It felt as though something inside her heart had finally reached its limit.

A sudden jolt shot through her body. Her fingers twitched. Another followed, stronger this time, racing beneath her skin like liquid lightning. The strange sensation spread through her veins, warm at first, then almost unbearably hot.

She pressed a trembling hand against her chest. The pain refused to ease. Instead, another surge rushed through her body.

Her breathing hitched. Is this... because of my heart? She closed her eyes tightly. Maybe I’m dying...

Another violent pulse swept through her. Her entire body trembled. She never noticed the first white strand appearing among her fiery red hair.

Then another.

And another.

Moon-white streaks slowly spread through the crimson locks, weaving through them like threads of pale silver. Her purple eyes, blurred by tears, gradually deepened in color.

The violet became richer. Darker. Until a faint glow flickered beneath her lashes.

She remained completely unaware. The celebration around her slowly changed.

A cool breeze drifted through the streets. Guests looked upward. The brilliant afternoon sky dimmed. Clouds rolled across the heavens far too quickly.

Within moments, daylight faded beneath an unnatural darkness. Confused murmurs spread through the crowd.

"What happened to the sun?" A man looked around uneasily. "It wasn’t supposed to rain today."

Another frowned toward the sky. "This doesn’t feel natural."

Amelia heard none of them. She remained exactly where she was, tears slipping endlessly down her face.

Every tear seemed to pull another piece of sorrow from somewhere deep inside her.

The betrayal. They continued pouring out of her until they no longer felt like emotions.

They felt...

Alive.

The wind suddenly grew stronger. Flowers decorating the wedding arches scattered into the air. Golden ribbons snapped violently against their poles. Guests hurried to grab loose decorations before they disappeared into the sky.

The breeze became a gale. Tables scraped across the ground. Chairs toppled over.

Large white canopies strained against their ropes before ripping free altogether. People cried out as fabric whipped overhead.

Darkness swallowed the territory.

It was as though evening had fallen in the middle of the afternoon.

Then—

Crack!

A bolt of brilliant purple lightning split the heavens. It struck a towering oak tree near the celebration. The trunk exploded apart.

Flames burst from the shattered wood. Screams erupted immediately. Violet lightning streaked across the blackened sky, illuminating terrified faces below. Guests scattered in every direction.

"Run!"

"It’s hitting the town!"

Another deafening crack echoed overhead. Someone covered their head with both hands.

"This isn’t a storm!"

A woman stared upward with wide, frightened eyes. "I’ve never seen anything like this."

Fear spread faster than the flames. Whispers followed almost immediately.

"Could this be an omen?"

"No..."

Someone shook his head nervously. "This feels more like a curse." Inside another building, Dylan and Jade stood near one of the tall windows overlooking the celebration grounds.

Guests crowded behind them, watching the destruction unfold outside. Jade folded her arms tightly.

Her smile from earlier had disappeared completely. An uneasy feeling settled deep inside her stomach.

Why does this feel... wrong? She couldn’t explain it.

The storm felt too alive. As though something had awakened.

Beside her, Dylan remained silent. His jaw tightened. The unease inside him grew heavier with every flash of violet lightning. His wolf paced restlessly beneath his skin.

It had never reacted like this before.

Why...?

He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the courtyard. Something about the storm pulled at instincts he couldn’t understand.

Outside...

The wind continued roaring through the territory.

More purple lightning struck the earth, igniting rooftops and trees alike. Decorations flew through the air like leaves caught in a hurricane.

In the middle of the chaos...

Amelia never moved.

She remained kneeling beside the carriage, tears falling silently onto the ground beneath her. She believed the strange energy racing through her body was nothing more than unbearable heartbreak.

She didn’t know the truth.

The seal that had imprisoned something ancient inside her had finally broken. And with every heartbeat...

The entire territory was beginning to feel its awakening.

Amelia didn’t have the strength to cry anymore. Her tears slowed to nothing as her body trembled violently, the last of her energy draining away. The world blurred into darkness around her, and she collapsed unconscious beside the carriage, her bloodied temple pressed against the cold ground.

The moment her eyes closed, the chaos began to fade. The howling wind died down to a gentle breeze. The purple lightning stopped streaking across the sky. The unnatural darkness lifted as sunlight broke through once more.

Within minutes, everything returned to normal, as if the violent storm had never happened. All that remained were the aftermath: scorched trees, overturned tables and chairs, burning rooftops that people rushed to extinguish, and scattered decorations littering the streets.

People slowly emerged from their shelters, faces pale with confusion and fear.

"What in the ancestors’ name was that?"

"Never seen lightning like that before..."

"Felt like the world was ending..."

No one understood. No one connected it to the broken woman lying unconscious in the dirt.

Thousands of miles away, in a vast and powerful territory shrouded in mist-covered mountains, the ground that had been shaking violently finally stilled. Warriors of all kinds, stood frozen for a moment before erupting into thunderous cheers. They raised their weapons high toward the sky, voices ringing out in unison.

"Our Rogue Queen is back!"

The cry spread like wildfire through the ranks. Warriors, healers, scouts, and elders all lifted their voices in praise, relief and reverence shining in their eyes. The long-awaited awakening they had prayed for had finally come. Their queen—lost for so long—had stirred once more.
