The reason for Harry’s hatred toward Snape was rooted in the things he had witnessed within Voldemort’s memories.
The first time Harry saw Severus in Voldemort’s memories was when a young Snape, still in his seventh and final year at Hogwarts, had accompanied Lucius Malfoy to one of the Dark Lord’s gatherings.
The Dark Lord had barely noticed him at that time but slowly with time Snape was to rise in fame and reputation among the Death Eaters.
After his first gathering, Snape became a regular member of the gatherings Voldemort organized for his Death Eaters to propagate his propaganda of pure-blood supremacy.
But Snape struck gold when Voldemort recognized his talent in potion brewing and took him in as a close confidant.
Harry’s blood boiled for the first time when he saw Snape asking for a chance to prove himself and his abilities to earn the Dark Mark, almost begging to the Dark Lord.
Already impressed by his brewing skills, Voldemort allowed him to join an attack against Muggles.
Upon his return, Snape was proud of himself, and his fellow Death Eater friends described his bravery during the attack.
According to other Death Eaters, Snape has had quite his fun with the muggles.
Although Voldemort had not asked for details, Harry could guess what that fun entailed.
After that, Snape took part in many other raids and performed all kinds of crimes, finally earning him the glorious Dark Mark.
After witnessing these events, Harry wondered how and why Dumbledore still kept Snape as a Hogwarts professor.
He was enraged and livid by the thought that a former Death Eater was teaching him, and not only that, but that the man constantly targeted both him and his father’s memory.
And if this was not enough, this former Death Eater had even had the gall to ask Cornelius Fudge for Sirius to be kissed by a Dementor, while Dumbledore offered nothing more than a lecture of few words on love and forgiveness.
The other important thing Harry witnessed was Snape bringing a prophecy to Voldemort, one made by a young Sybill Trelawney, the current divination professor, during her interview for the position of Divination professor at Hogwarts.
She had been interviewing with Albus Dumbledore at the Hog’s Head pub in Hogsmeade when Snape overheard the prediction.
However, Snape was only able to hear the first half of the prophecy before he was caught eavesdropping by the owner of the pub, Aberforth Dumbledore, who was also Albus Dumbledore’s brother, and thrown out.
The first part of the prophecy, as Harry learned from Voldemort’s memories, was.
“The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches …
born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies …
and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal.”
Harry was enraged.
A single prophecy had caused Voldemort to attack his parents.
Dumbledore had allowed Snape to escape after hearing it.
Harry was not sure whether Dumbledore knew Snape was a Death Eater at the time, but the old man had still taken no measures.
It infuriated and angered him that despite his constant questions, Dumbledore kept all of this hidden, the cause of his parents’ death and the fact that a criminal was being kept safe within the walls of Hogwarts.
Two boys had been considered eligible to fulfill the prophecy.
Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom.
Believing Harry, a half-blood, to be more of an equal to himself than the pure blooded Neville, Voldemort had targeted the Potter family.
Harry’s final leash on his anger and the most violent of them snapped when he saw the news of Lily’s pregnancy spread.
The unborn child was marked to be one destined to fulfill the prophecy along with Alice Longbottom unborn child.
He witnessed how Snape came begging to Voldemort to spare Lily.
At first, Harry felt a flicker of sympathy, thinking that perhaps Snape had realized the weight of his mistake and might actually be trying to correct it, but the truth, in reality, was far darker.
Snape had begged Voldemort to spare Lily and kill James.
He wanted her spared so that he could claim her for himself.
And this was the only reason Voldemort had given Lily those chances to step aside and save her life.
And when Harry, from his memories, witnessed Snape arrive at Godric’s Hollow and have the gall to touch the body of his dead mother, he screamed in pure rage.
He promised himself and the memory of his parents that he would suitably punish Severus Snape and make him feel true despair.
Harry’s magic had flared so violently and powerfully that day that the nearby windows had shattered and small spiderwebbed cracks had formed across the walls of the attic.
(FLASHBACK)
Until that moment, Harry had been patiently performing all the chores of the Dursley household, silently assimilating his new knowledge.
He knew he had become powerful and had some methods to escape this hellhole but he was biding his time.
He was waiting for the perfect moment, when he was fully prepared, to permanently leave this house.
However, his scream of rage and the sounds of destruction had alerted the Dursleys.
All three members of the family had come running, forcefully pushing open the attic door.
Whether from anger or the exertion of climbing the stairs with his obese frame, Vernon’s face appeared almost purple.
“What have you done, freak?
You never learn your lessons, do you?” He screamed in rage.
Harry, consumed by his fury, was in no mood for the man’s blabbering and remained silent.
“I will teach you today, freak!
I’ll make you understand that your freakiness will not be tolerated in this house!” Vernon bellowed as he pressed against Harry.
Harry reacted instinctively.
He raised his hand and banished Vernon into the wall.
Vernon was smashed loudly against the plaster and groaned in pain.
Petunia gasped in sheer terror and shock, while Dudley whimpered in fear.
Slightly fearful but still clinging to his arrogance, Vernon pushed his body and shouted.
“Now you wait, freak!
I know you are not allowed to use magic outside your freakish school,” he raged.
“Just wait until you are expelled and then I will teach you a lesson!”
Harry grinned evilly.
He was in no mood to tolerate any further nonsense.
His last bit of patience had already snapped and Vernon’s words were only adding fuel to fire.
“Then it does not matter if I use a few more spells now, does it?” He said, his tone cold.
“What do you say, Uncle?”
Seeing that predatory smile and realizing the freak would not hesitate to use more magic, Vernon scrambled to his feet.
With Petunia’s help, he moved his heavy body as fast as he could, running from the room.
He managed one final whimpering threat.
“Just you wait, freak!” The voice came.
“I will definitely teach you a lesson!”
“Just a few days more,” Harry sighed in exasperation and muttered to himself.
With a casual wave of his hand, he cast a Repair Charm, and every bit of damage in the room was instantly reversed.
