Zoey remained frozen for another moment, staring at Layla as the words slowly arranged themselves into something her brain could comprehend. Her eyebrows drew together, then lifted, her expression caught between wanting to question the assessment and realizing she had technically received a positive result.
The corner of her mouth began to move. She tried pressing her lips together, but the effort only made the laugh that escaped through her nose sound considerably less dignified.
CHAT:
NOT ENDANGERED 💀
zoey’s skin has been assessed by wildlife services
medically speaking she'll probably live
LAYLA SAID THE SPECIES WILL CONTINUE
Without moving her face away from Layla's hand, Zoey looked toward the monitor.
"You know what? I’ll take that. I was expecting way worse actually..."
CHAT:
PUT IT ON THE PRODUCT LABEL
brand manager please tell us you're still here
clinically proven to keep your face off the endangered list
the sponsor can still recover from this
Zoey glanced back at Layla. The verdict had loosened some of the tension in her posture, although having Layla remain this close kept her shoulders from relaxing completely.
"So there’s nothing obviously wrong with it? Dryness, irritation... some terrible thing I’ve been ignoring?"
Layla's gaze remained calm as she examined her. Nothing resembling the detailed professional assessment Zoey seemed to be waiting for followed.
That absence became increasingly difficult to ignore.
Zoey watched her for another second, brows drawing together.
"Wait."
Her eyes shifted toward the camera while her face remained where Layla had positioned it.
"You actually don’t know either."
CHAT:
WAIT SHE REALLY DOESN’T
THE MODEL KNOWS AS MUCH AS ZOEY???
THEY'RE BOTH CLUELESS LMAO
nobody in this room is qualified 😭
"You said ‘ceramides’ like you personally discovered them. You explained barrier function. You corrected how I applied the serum."
One hand gestured weakly toward the products.
"Was all of that just from the sponsor sheet?"
CHAT:
SHE STUDIED FOR THE STREAM

zoey got outperformed by basic reading comprehension
turns out the secret ingredient was literacy
Layla nodded.
"the description is clear enough."
Zoey stared at her, her gaze slowly traveling from Layla to the folded sponsor sheet lying beside the product boxes.
"I had that exact same description."
CHAT:
ZOEY PLEASE
THE DOCUMENT WAS AVAILABLE TO BOTH PLAYERS
SKILL ISSUE CONFIRMED
layla used the tutorial, zoey mashed buttons
Zoey reached for the sheet and unfolded it. Her eyes moved across the densely printed sections, her expression tightening as the document began systematically removing every defense available to her.
"It has headings."
She turned the page.
"It has the application order."
Another page followed.
"There are pictures."
CHAT:
THE PICTURES 😭
she couldn’t even claim the text was too technical
GIRL THERE WERE VISUAL AIDS
zoey vs a picture book and the book won
Zoey lowered the pages and looked back at Layla, stripped of every remaining argument.
"So the difference between us is that you read the instructions before going live."
"you handled that very well."
Zoey had been ready for an explanation, perhaps even another painfully reasonable observation about the benefits of reading instructions. A compliment had not featured among the possibilities.
Her expression softened before she could do anything about it. She lowered her eyes to the sponsor sheet, pressing her thumb against a bent corner and gradually flattening it against the desk.
"I knocked over the serum twice."
CHAT:
AND CAUGHT IT TWICE
TECHNICALLY ZERO SERUM CASUALTIES
layla is being so nice 😭
SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE IT
Zoey glanced toward the camera and then back to Layla, a faint flush returning to her cheeks.
"I also applied one of them like jam...that's what you said..."
CHAT:
THE DEFENDANT IS SABOTAGING HER OWN CASE
accept the compliment girl
she cannot let herself have ONE WIN
JUST SAY THANK YOU 😭
Zoey pressed her lips together. Another objection almost made it out before she stopped herself.
"...Thank you."
She folded the sponsor sheet again, considerably more carefully this time, and placed it beside the products.
"You handled it better, though. I think chat would’ve bought industrial solvent if you described it in that voice."
CHAT:
already added to cart
ZOEY WE HEARD THAT
she could sell me bottled air
ZOEY THAT SOUNDED SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE A COMPLIMENT
Zoey read the messages too late. The composure she had only just recovered threatened to break again.
"It was a professional compliment. She has a good presentation voice. That is a normal thing to notice when you are doing a presentation."
CHAT:
STOP EXPLAINING YOU'RE MAKING IT WORSE
yes very professional very red

Zoey pulled the product tray closer and began returning each container to its molded slot. The first jar fit without resistance, but the serum bottle refused to settle into the next opening. She rotated it, tried another angle. It still did not fit.
"Why is there geometry in skincare?"
CHAT:
layla please help her with the shape sorter
ages 3+ btw
she survived the stream but not the packaging
SOMEONE GET LAYLA 😭
Zoey tried another slot. This time, the bottle settled neatly into place.
"I knew that."
A donation chime sounded before chat could answer.
TTS ALERT:
"Donation from SwissMissBehavior Question: Layla, if you don’t know skincare, why did you agree to do a skincare collaboration?"
Zoey's hand stopped above the tray.
CHAT:
VALID QUESTION
THE LORE DEEPENS
maybe the brand saw white eyelashes and stopped asking questions
i wanna know too
Zoey started to turn toward Layla, caught herself, and faced the camera first.
"For legal reasons, guests are allowed to say the opportunity interested me."
Only then did she look at Layla.
"But... yeah. Why did you accept?"
"Money."
Layla gave the answer with the same calm composure she had maintained throughout the stream.
Zoey's mouth opened but nothing came out.
CHAT:
LMAOOOOOO
SHE SAID IT
NO CORPORATE FILTER. ZERO.

Zoey slowly turned toward the camera, gathering what remained of her professionalism along the way.
"She means the valuable professional exposure."
CHAT:

EXPOSURE DOESN’T PAY RENT ZOEY
One hand covered the lower half of Zoey's face, but it failed to contain the laugh that escaped behind it. Her shoulders shook once before she lowered her hand again.
"Okay. Honestly? Respect."
She placed the final product into the tray and closed the lid.
"I spent three days pretending I accepted because I’m passionate about innovative hydration technology."
CHAT:
AND WHY DID YOU ACCEPT ZOEY"

Zoey's eyes flicked toward Layla.
"Money. Obviously. Also money."
CHAT:

WHAT WAS THAT LOOK
Both of Zoey's palms came down flat against the closed tray.
"I'm switching chat to emote-only if you don't stop!"
She reached toward the controls, only for the small clock beneath the monitor to catch her attention.
"Wait...we’ve been live together for over an hour."
CHAT:
TIME IS FAKE
NO YOU HAVEN’T
NOOO STAY A LITTLE LONGER
DON’T END IT
Zoey straightened in her chair. She pulled the closed product tray into the center of the table, squared it with the camera and made sure the sponsor's label was visible.
"Okay. The presentation part is finished. Products survived, sponsor requirements were technically fulfilled, and my skin remains...what it is."
CHAT:

"We’ll take a few normal questions before we wrap up. Only normal ones this time !"
The conditions had barely left her mouth before the messages accelerated.

what surprised them about each other??
YES THAT ONE
Zoey read the question as it repeated across the monitor. She glanced briefly toward Layla before facing the camera again.
"Alright. ‘What surprised you most about each other?’ That’s safe. Probably."
She rested her forearms on the desk.
"For me... I expected Layla to be composed. Obviously. I did not expect her to be this patient."
Some of the exaggerated streamer cadence left her voice as she continued.
"I made mistakes, panicked, ignored the instructions, put serum on like sandwich spread, and accidentally removed half my makeup. She never made me feel stupid for any of it."
CHAT:
zoey sincere mode
that was actually sweet
she survived long enough to form a coherent feeling
aw zoey 😭
Zoey turned toward Layla. A small smile remained on her face despite the color beginning to rise in her cheeks.
"So... what surprised you about me?"
Layla remained thoughtful for a second.
"..."
Before answering.
"you weren't...chaotic."
Zoey caught the briefest change in her expression, something close enough to disappointment to make her wonder whether Layla had actually expected more chaos from her. It disappeared too quickly for Zoey to decide what she had seen.
She blinked.
"I wasn’t chaotic?"
Her gaze dropped to the table. Especially on the pile of now black stained used coton pads...

Zoey looked back at Layla. Her expression had already returned to its usual composure, leaving nothing there to confirm what Zoey thought she had noticed.
"I forgot I was wearing makeup and turned myself into a raccoon."
CHAT:
layla you have no idea 😭

A smile started across Zoey's face, only to falter when another part of Layla's answer finally registered.
"Wait. You said I wasn’t chaotic like you had something to compare it to."
The chat scroll stumbled for only an instant before surging.
CHAT:
WAIT WAIT WAIT
SHE KNOWS THE USUAL ZOEY???
HAS LAYLA WATCHED THE STREAM BEFORE
She know GREMLIN ZO ???
Zoey's posture went rigid.
"Have you watched my streams?"
Layla displayed nothing in response. She simply turned her face back toward the camera, directing her attention toward the stream again rather than answering.
Zoey watched her. Her lips parted, but she caught the question before she could ask it a second time. Her gaze moved toward the stream controls, and she sat straighter, reluctantly allowing the unanswered question to remain unanswered.
"Okay. Classified information."
CHAT:

Zoey stared at the messages with mounting indignation, her fingers hovering near the stream controls. She had every intention of defending herself, preferably before chat started suggesting actual usernames.
Instead, her gaze slipped toward Layla.
The woman was sitting beside her with the same composed expression, having offered absolutely nothing that might settle the question. Zoey looked back at the monitor, her lips pressed together as she tried to return her attention to the stream.
Unfortunately, the question was considerably harder to dismiss than the chat.
