Phew. Some of us did not have it easy in this world. You see, Alderia belonged to the rich while the rest of us had to pay for the privilege of living on their land.

The rich treated us like dirt, tossing us from their nice high floors on a whim. We could do anything about it.

The world was full of those types of people. And to make matters worse we got monsters in dungeons and rifts that were also added later to the equation.Full novel: Limitless Evolution As A Necromancer — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

When that happened the rich became even more powerful and made us hunt monsters in the dungeons and the rifts for their own fun.

Those brave enough went in and became monsters themselves. Some became monster hunters using their power for good while others became a different type of monster using their power for evil purposes.

Everyone had classes, even I got one. However, I did not get a good one or so i thought at that time.

I had awakened the Necromancer class with the most cliche skill of them all "Awaken". The skill that only works on dead monsters.

My name is John Graves, and my life is such BS.

He was a young-looking man with untidy dark brown hair, sunken eyes, and a pale, almost anemic face.

He had a thin, not well-nourished body with practically no muscles on him. His clothes were old and torn and he wore a dark jacket with some baggy pants and dirty boots. He looked tired, annoyed and ready to break down in despair.

"Your skill has helped us get this far, John. Thank you."

Those were the final words from one of my comrades that was sent to this dungeon with me to hunt the monsters for the higher ups, not caring if we lived or not.

He laid on the ground with his back against the cold stone wall.

His blood running down his chest soaking his jacket. His eyes were half open and his voice was weak saying those words. As if dying in a cave was something better than the life he was going to have after.

We were sent to this exhibition or our graveyard (not that I would call it that). All my companions lay dead in the dungeon now leaving me alone.

"I will clear this dungeon. I swear on my fallen comrades that I will not disappoint you all." Said John. His voice bouncing off the damp walls in the cave.

This was a C-rank dungeon called Glenwood Cavern and it was the dungeon that they sent us lowly F ranked adventurers to.

John and his companions were sent into this damned cave a week ago and they were still on the first floor. The cave possessed some type of illusion magic that was messing with their heads. The illusion magic messed with them so hard that they all died leaving john.

"Status."

Blue text appeared hovering in front of him like it was a typical thing in everyone’s daily life.

Name: John Graves

Class: Necromancer

Rank: F

Skill: Awaken (SSS)

Mana Aptitude: 92

Strength: 8

Agility: 11

’My stats went up a bit,’ He muttered to himself. Since I was the only one to actually kill some monsters after we were sent here. My friends were all support classes doing everything they could to help me and it still wasn’t enough.

"Am I going to die too?"He said this last part louder, his voice full of anger and despair.

"Very much so, F rank scum."

A high pitched voice replied from the shadows. "We decided you were no longer needed. I was sent to kill you, along with your precious comrades who were helping you."

"Show yourself!"John said in a rather scared tone.

From the shadows came a woman.

She was tall slender and pale with long black hair flowing in a high ponytail. She had piercing grey eyes, two short knives in her hands dripping with fresh blood. She wore tight dark leather armor and her lips had a smile that seemed to have been painted on. Her long fingers flexed causing a few droplets of blood to fall on the floor.

"It’s you Lira Vane," said John, realization hitting him.

"I should’ve known. The illusion magic was you all along the way you killed them by showing them the people they cared for before killing them."

Lira tilted her head to the side, still wearing that creepy smile. "Such a shame you’re only an F rank you’ll soon wither and die soon after I kill you." She said, her voice full of mockery. "I would’ve kept you as a pet if it weren’t for the fact that your dear SSS rank skill ’Awaken’ only works on dead monsters. Pity, really.

But your mana aptitude isn’t bad at all." She clicked her tongue. "I commend you for surviving this long with that horrible class, you did well. Now clean up the mess boys."

From the shadows, four figures came out, surrounding him. They were his companions, the same support members who had died earlier. Each one had a small knife in their hands, the weapon that was given to all support classes upon their awakening. Their eyes were empty and their movements stiff.

They moved at once.

All four of them stabbed him in the shoulder, his side, thigh and finally his gut. John fell to his knees then he dropped on his back because he could not kneel any longer.

His blood flowing down his body pooling around his head.

The illusions dissipated leaving only John and Lira.

She walked up to him spitting on his motionless body, letting out a blood-curdling laugh. John was still alive although barely. His breathing was shallow and ragged.

Lira kicked him in the stomach, sending him colliding in the wall.

She walked up to him and kicked him in the ribs.

Then his face.

making him unable to form proper sentences.

"Your survival rate is so goddamn high," She said, panting, "That’s the only reason you’re still alive, you damned cockroach."

John’s vision was now blurry, his mouth was now filled with blood. Using his last strength, he forced out the words.

"Awaken."

There were no monsters nearby for him to bring back. The skill had absolutely failed to activate.

Lira let out a loud laugh. "You’re trash without dead monsters, so why even try when you know it won’t work?"

John gritted his teeth chanting the skill once more.

"Awaken."

And again.

"Awaken."

And again.

"Awaken."

Lira’s laughter echoed through the cave. Then in the next moment, John’s heartbeat became so loud that it shook the entire dungeon.

The blue text reappeared in front of his face shining brighter than ever.

[Requirement met.]

His status had increased.

Name: John Graves

Class: Necromancer

Rank: E

Mana Aptitude: 100

Strength: 27

Agility: 34

Another window appeared underneath the status window.

Weapon Acquired: Soulreaper Scythe

Rank: Unique

Attack Power: 450

Description: This scythe is made from compressed death energy. It becomes stronger with every soul it takes. It can be manifested at will. The death energy in the scythe can be used to empower the user’s attacks.

John pushed himself up from the ground. He gestured for the Soulreaper Scythe to appear in his left hand making a soft whoosh sound.

He swung it once, and it cut through Lira’s body. She didn’t even have time to scream. Her body was split in half the two knives falling from her cold dead hands on the floor.

He had been evolved, but he was like the same young man from before but the fatigue and frailty had been swept away.

His dark brown hair remains messy yet his posture is more upright and assertive. His eyes are sharper, colder and had a certain intensity that is now present. Color has been added to his cheeks.

Also His body had grown leaner and more muscle had formed from all the combat he’s been through and stat growth. He still wears his typical dark clothing from the beginning but he no longer looks like easy prey, The Soulreaper Scythe in his hand generating a faint cold aura when he stands there menacingly.

John dismissed the scythe standing over her motionless body. He laughed, imitating the laugh she gave him a few minutes ago.

Then he stopped. She was already dead, there was no point in doing it any longer.

He raised his hand, chanting once more.

"Awaken."

Lira’s body twitched and her heart began restarting.

She stood up, her knees bending slightly as she kneeled in front of John, her head lowered.

"My liege. Your command."

A status window appeared.
