For seven hours of hard work, the progress was insane. He was probably as strong as Nico now, and that was after just two days of training.
He hummed to himself as he finished cleaning up the kitchen. Most of the stuff was broken, but on the bright side, the fridge was still intact. He grabbed a few vegetables and ate them on his way to Victoria’s room.
The moment he entered, he noticed she was awake. Not only that, but all the food he had prepared for her was gone.
"Wow... Do you like my cooking that much, or were you just hungry?"
"Hungry." Victoria straightened her back. "Also, since when did you stop knocking? I am still a woman."
"Will do that next time, then." Arthur shrugged it off and got to the point. "Anyhow, what you did before passing out, I don’t want you to ever do that again. You’re always on the verge of dying, and at this rate, you might actually die."
Victoria’s brows furrowed. "Who do you think you are to suggest I lay off? I won’t be able to achieve anything if I don’t use everything at my disposal. You’re my comrade and nothing more. We’re play-pretend husband and wife. Don’t forget that."
She used a strange Law to push him back, nearly making him tumble off his chair. He frowned at her behavior. He could be just as petty if he wanted to.
"You know what? Do whatever you want. Get better soon and convert some of that gold into jewelry. I’ll go sell it, and both of us can do whatever we want with the money. I’m off to the slums now. See ya."
With that, he took his leave without giving her a second glance. She was acting way too pissy for someone who relied on his Healing to pull off her reckless stunts. What if he just decided not to heal her one day? Tsk, tsk.
As he made his way to the slums, Arthur tried to jump the fence. However, he hadn’t taken into account just how much his strength had increased since the last time he checked it. The result was a small gesture completely toppling the innocent fence and leaving him bewildered.
Was he supposed to pay for that? It was on the outskirts of his neighborhood, and it technically didn’t belong to the slums, so...
Yep. It was time for a break and run.
He ignored the damage completely and ran toward the slums. He was so fast that some objects became blurry as he passed them. This time, he controlled his strength as he jumped over the fence into the slums.
He had arrived two or three hours earlier than he was supposed to. It was also his first time seeing the slums during the day. It was completely different from what he had seen at night.
For one, there were a lot more people walking around. Not all of them looked as malnourished as those who roamed around at night. But then again, the people he saw were mostly women and children. The men were nowhere to be seen, except for those who worked in the shops or roadside stalls.
If this had been his first time here, he would have been confused. But after walking around the slums at night, he had realized that most of the men from the slums had turned to dungeon delving. Those who were a bit better off worked within the slums instead.
I guess at this rate, there won’t be anyone to heal for the next couple of hours since the dungeon delvers aren’t back yet.
But just as he thought he might as well go home, he spotted a small clinic off to the side. People were coming and going, but none of their injuries were being treated. He saw this as the perfect opportunity to heal some people in his spare time, so he went inside.
And oh boy...
"The fuck are you coming here for with a bruise? Go grab a bandage and drink some tea. Next!"
There was a rude old woman in charge of the small clinic. She seemed feisty. Every time she spoke, she waved her cane around, nearly hitting everyone in front of her.
Well, "everyone" was subjective since the place was empty now.
But hey, Arthur was here!
"Excuse me?"
"What?" She turned around and pointed her cane at him. "Boy, you look as healthy as my cane. Are you here to ask for medicine for your family?"
"Ah, no. I’m actually here to help out a bit." Arthur cleared his throat. "I saw a lot of these people walking out because their injuries were minor and you didn’t want to treat them. What if I treated them instead? That way, you can still earn money without lifting a finger."
The old woman just stared at him with a confused expression. "You want to be employed? Hah... Are kids so desperate for money nowadays that they turn to this old grandma for help?"
Money? No. He was a soon-to-be rich young master. What he wanted was healing experience. But he wasn’t about to say that.
"Not work, but more like volunteering. I don’t need to be paid," he said.
She sighed, and judging by her skeptical expression, she was probably going to reject him. But as if on cue, someone walked into the clinic.
It was a middle-aged man, and he was clutching his left arm as though a venomous snake had bitten him.
But upon closer inspection, Arthur noticed that it was nothing more than a paper cut. He turned toward the old woman and flashed a cheeky grin.
"Granny, do you mind if I demonstrate my problem-solving skills?"
