"Hmm~ Hmmm~" Arthur tiptoed around the city with none other than Victoria by his side.
Yep. After setting up their accounts and depositing that large sum of money without much of a hitch, they were now 540,000 Pora richer. It was actually strange to look at the price of things now and realize that he could actually afford them.
But hey... He remembered that the average salary of a person was 2,500 Pora per month. Why did a goddamn apple cost 11 Pora? A kilogram of chicken was 30 Pora? What was wrong with this place’s economy?
Did I maybe look at some kind of outdated salary list? If not, then how was it possible that everyone could afford this stuff? Higher education?
He couldn’t understand it, but he had no reason to try to understand it. He was rich now, and the first thing he wanted to do was buy a phone. So that was exactly where he led Victoria. The models of the phones were all pretty much the same, so he got two that were personally recommended by the store assistant.
After the assistant helped Arthur and Victoria set everything up, the two of them went outside. Only now did he realize that he had been ignoring Victoria ever since he had gotten the money.
"Ah... Is there anything you want to buy, Victoria?"
"I thought you’d never ask." Victoria sighed. "I need medicine. Painkillers, mostly. This echolocation stuff is giving me a massive migraine. I’m sure there’s also some recoil. When I finally turn it off and go to bed, the migraine’s going to be too strong."
"Then why are you using it?" Arthur clicked his tongue. "Stop using it for now. I’ll lead the way for you."
"Fine..."
She surprisingly listened, turning off her echolocation. She stumbled right away, but he caught her, holding her upright by the hand. Realizing that she wouldn’t actually be able to walk like this, he decided to just hold her hand and let her lean on him.
Neither Arthur nor Victoria really saw it as anything special, but to just about any passerby, they looked like a lovey-dovey couple. Who else would walk hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with another person? In public, no less!
But even then, Arthur did acknowledge that this was turning into a bit of a date. A weird first date where he bought her a bunch of painkillers and various other medicines just in case.
"Want a lollipop?" he asked.
Victoria shook her head. "I don’t like sugar that much."
"But you’re not allergic to it like you are to lactose, though? I know I’m not one to talk, but you’re not on Earth anymore. You can have a cheat day or two."
She stared at him for a bit before eventually caving in. "One lollipop. Get one for yourself. If I’m getting a cavity, then you are too."
"Huh? You think you’ll get a cavity from one lollipop?"
"...The odds of that are high."
"Pfft... Then you’re pretty bad at math." Arthur teased her and got two lollipops. He handed her one, and while the two of them walked hand in hand, they stopped by many shops.
Clothing shops, bakeries, electronics, and even some furniture. After she had practically demolished their kitchen and, well... God bless their garage, he wanted to buy some materials so he could repair everything.
Not to mention, while she was busy touching all the wood and carpet to see what she liked, Arthur went ahead and set up her phone. The problem he realized far too late was that she was blind. Thankfully, these phones had a narrator feature, so whatever she clicked would then be spoken aloud to her.
This should be fine, I think. We got the necessities, extra laptops, a gaming setup, heh. And what else? Oh.
"Hey, do you think we should get a flying car?"
"We can get one after we have slightly more disposable cash."
He felt like a child asking his mother for candy. Welp, it was a selfish purchase anyway, so he didn’t say anything when she said no.
Anyways, that was it. It was about time they began heading home. Most of the furniture and food they had pre-ordered was going to be delivered directly to their house anyway. The only things they had on hand were the phones and lollipops.
But did he really want to end his day out just like this? He felt like this was the perfect opportunity to learn a bit more about the person he was with.
"Let’s just get all these carpets. Also, before we go back home, do you want to stop by for some dinner?"
"Like a date?"
Arthur shrugged. "We’ve been on a date for the last five hours. But if you want to keep it professional, then you can just call it a partner’s meeting in your mind. Won’t make it any less of a date, though."
Seeing his theatrics, she let out a sigh. Even then, she was also a little curious about what he wanted to talk to her about, so she nodded.
"That’s fine by me. I need some iron and potassium for today, so pick whatever as long as it has those."
"Iron and potassium? Do you want me to take you to a mineshaft? We’re going to get some fast food and eat it on our way home."
"No fast food. Just... A café is good enough," Victoria said.
He let out a chuckle and grabbed her hand, taking her to a nearby café. It wasn’t that empty, as there were at least ten people there. Thankfully, there was still enough space for them to settle in. Once they sat down, a waitress came over and asked them what they wanted to order.
"Hm... I’ll have the French fries with garlic sauce, four garlic breadsticks, and, oh, one coffee without sugar."
He gave his order and turned to Victoria. She hadn’t decided yet, and that was because she didn’t know what was on the menu.
He turned back to the waitress.
"Mind coming back in a few minutes? We haven’t decided yet."
"Mm. Call me whenever you’re ready."
When the waitress left them alone, Arthur smiled slightly.
"So, iron and potassium, huh? Let me read you the menu, and you tell me what you want..."
