That’s right.
The man Levi wanted to find was Graves, the Outlaw.
Twisted Fate and Graves were close friends, so if Levi wanted to find Twisted Fate, tracking down Graves first was definitely a good approach.
Twisted Fate and Graves had fallen out for a while in the past, but their feud had been caused by a long chain of misunderstandings.
Judging by the timeline, Gangplank had already been blown sky-high by Sarah, which meant Twisted Fate and Graves should have reconciled by now.
Graves was very different from Twisted Fate.
Although the two were practically brothers, their personalities couldn’t have been further apart.
Compared with the cautious and calculating Twisted Fate, Graves was unquestionably the type to charge in first and think later.
Even though Graves had plenty of enemies, he wasn’t nearly as careful about covering his tracks as Twisted Fate was.
That made finding him considerably easier.
Inside a packed casino, crowds of gamblers clustered around the tables, shouting at the top of their lungs as they stared at the numbers before them.
Their expressions were tense, sometimes erupting into wild cheers and other times collapsing into groans of despair.
The smells of sweat, smoke, and alcohol mixed together in the stale air.
The place was filled almost entirely with restless men, practically reeking of testosterone.
“You really think we’ll find Graves somewhere like this?” Sarah frowned.
She had no desire to spend any longer than necessary in a place like this.
“Have some of your men make the rounds through Bilgewater’s taverns and casinos, and sooner or later they’ll run into him.”
Levi swept his gaze around the room but didn’t see the man he was looking for.
He and Sarah stepped outside for some fresh air.
The midday sun shone down on their faces, prompting Sarah to tug the brim of her hat a little lower.
Before long, Rafen hurried toward them.
He leaned close to Sarah and quietly whispered something into her ear.
“Have someone keep an eye on him, but don’t go yourself,” Sarah instructed carefully.
“He might recognize you, and I don’t want him realizing we’re after him. We’ll be there soon.”
Rafen nodded, glanced at Levi standing beside her, then quickly left.
“They found him.”
Sarah looked at Levi with obvious delight.
She hadn’t expected his idea to work this quickly.
“Tell me where he is. I’ll go find him.”
“We should probably go together. After all…” Sarah began, still somewhat worried despite knowing Levi was more than capable of taking care of himself.
“Miss Fortune attracts a little too much attention, doesn’t she?” Levi interrupted with a smile.
“Leave it to me. You already saw how good I am at sneaking around this morning.”
Remembering what had happened that morning, Sarah’s face immediately reddened.
She clicked her tongue.
“Fine. Do whatever you want. Go by yourself, but don’t screw this up.”
“When I’m handling it, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”
Levi flashed her a cheeky grin and winked.
Elsewhere, Graves sat inside another casino, taking large swallows of liquor.
His brow was tightly furrowed, and there was a faintly troubled look on his face.
“What’s wrong, Graves? Looking awfully miserable today. Don’t feel like playing a few rounds?”
The old man behind the bar set down a plate of fruit and glanced at Graves, who was drinking alone.
“Play my ass. Yesterday I lost damn near everything but the clothes on my back. If I gamble again today, I might as well jump into the sea and feed myself to the sharks.”
Graves pulled a cigarette from his coat and stuck it between his lips.
The old bartender obligingly lit it for him.
Graves blew out a ring of smoke and stared through the doorway at the people passing outside.
Then he seemed to notice something.
He drained the rest of his drink in one gulp.
“Forget it. I’m done here. Heading home.”
Graves took several deep drags from his cigarette, tossed the money for his drinks onto the counter, picked up his gun, and walked out.
One of Sarah’s men immediately followed him.
Graves, however, deliberately headed toward the most crowded streets, weaving left and right through the masses until he quickly disappeared from sight.
Sarah’s man searched for him for a while before realizing he’d been shaken off.
With no other choice, he stomped his foot in frustration and returned to the casino.
A short while later, Levi finally arrived.
The only thing he found was one of Sarah’s men standing awkwardly outside the entrance.
The man hurried over as soon as he saw Levi.
Levi was always around Miss Fortune, so if he had suddenly appeared here, then Sarah had obviously sent him.
The assignment First Mate Rafen had entrusted to him had gone badly, and the man looked visibly embarrassed.
“Where is he?” Levi asked immediately, noticing that something was wrong.
“I… I lost him.”
The man stumbled over his words.
“Just tell me what happened.”
After Levi asked, the man recounted everything that had happened from beginning to end.
Levi thought for a moment before nodding.
“It’s fine. Head back. I’ll figure out what to do from here.”
Seeing that Levi wasn’t blaming him, the man breathed a sigh of relief and quickly left.
Levi watched him go before turning around and entering the casino.
He walked straight to the bar and took a seat.
“Give me a drink.”
Levi waved a hand.
The old bartender placed a glass of pale yellow liquor in front of him, bubbles still rising through the liquid.
“Hey, I’ve got a question. Where did the man who was sitting here drinking earlier go?”
“Oh, you mean Graves?” The old man raised an eyebrow while continuing to tidy the bar.
“Can’t tell you.”
Clearly, he had no intention of talking.
“What if I add these?”
Levi reached into his pocket, pulled out two silver serpents, and slapped them onto the counter.
He calmly watched the old man’s reaction.
The bartender’s eyelid twitched as his gaze settled on the coins.
Slowly, he spoke.
“Sir, Graves and I have been friends for many years…”
Before he could finish, Levi pulled out two more silver serpents and slapped them onto the counter.
The old man’s expression visibly brightened.
“Sir, you have to understand. Graves and I are practically brothers.”
He did his best to conceal the excitement on his face, speaking in an appropriately solemn voice.
“Oh, I see. Sorry to bother you, then.”
Levi chuckled.
He pulled his hand back out of his pocket and reached for the four silver serpents on the counter.
“Wait!”
The old man instantly slapped a hand over Levi’s.
Then his expression shifted.
The young man sitting in front of him was much stronger than he looked.
The bartender could barely keep Levi’s hand pinned down.
“What I meant was…”
The old man finally abandoned the act and forced out a smile uglier than a grimace.
“It’ll cost extra.”
Levi released the coins and tossed another two silver serpents onto the counter.
The instant he did, the bartender hurriedly swept every coin off the table and stuffed them into his pocket.
“All right, listen…”
The old man leaned close to Levi and lowered his voice to barely more than a whisper.
Then he started talking.
And talking.
By the time he finished, he’d practically told Levi everything short of what color underwear Graves was wearing.
“Got it. Much appreciated.”
Levi nodded, drained his drink in one gulp, then turned and walked out of the casino.
“Graves, my friend, you really can’t blame me for this.”
The old bartender weighed the coins in his hand and broke into a grin, revealing a mouthful of large teeth stained nearly black by years of tobacco.
“He just paid way too damn much.”
Levi himself was completely broke, but Sarah had money.
And since he was spending someone else’s money, he didn’t feel the slightest bit of pain.
If Sarah ever found out what he was thinking, though, he definitely wouldn’t hear the end of it.
“Wait a second…”
Levi suddenly stopped.
“I’m spending a woman’s money every damn day. Have I seriously become her kept man?”
He shook his head helplessly.
Now that he had a rough idea of where Graves was staying, along with several of the man’s habits, Levi wasted no time and immediately headed for his destination.
