The bar suddenly fell silent, but then a heated discussion erupted:
“This chick actually took out Luca?
How is that possible?”
“Lies, it must be lies!
There’s not a word of truth in a woman’s mouth!”
“I don’t think it’s necessarily a lie.
Look at those plump hips and powerful long legs; Luca might have been squeezed to death!”
Amidst the mockery and skepticism, Lorine stood up, walked over to Levi, picked up the green hair from the ground, and examined it closely for a while.
After a moment, she spoke with some surprise:
“Did you really take him out?”
“Yes.
If anyone sees Luca again, I’ll twist my own head off!”
Levi said coldly.
His powerful aura intimidated many of the patrons, and most of them shut their mouths, not daring to mock him further.
“How did you do it?”
Lorine asked, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
“Simple.
Found him, stabbed him.
That’s it.”
As Levi spoke, he spun the feneport dagger in a practiced motion.
He didn’t mention that he had also dealt with six other gangsters, to prevent others from gauging his true strength.
Lorine gave Levi a deep look.
Then, she sighed and said:
“I’ll take you to see Samira.
If she agrees, you can join the Hyena Gang.”
She turned and walked up the stairs, gesturing for Levi to follow.
Once they reached the second floor, Lorine turned back to Levi and whispered:
“I still don’t think you’re a cruel villain.
The gangs don’t suit you.
If you want to back out now, it’s not too late.”
Levi smiled and replied, also in a whisper:
“It seems you’re not very fond of the gangs either.
So, what’s your purpose for staying here?”
Lorine was taken aback and stopped speaking.
She continued up to the third floor, arriving at a spacious room directly facing the top of the stairs.
She knocked softly three times and then pushed the door open and entered.
Inside, a gramophone was playing “backlund nights,” the signature song of adult singer Dorothy.
To the melody filled with explicit lyrics, “Madam Red” Samira lay comfortably on a chaise longue, her short, thick legs propped up on a large locked chest.
One hand swirled a goblet of Sherry while the other held a thick cigar half a foot long.
Lorine bowed slightly and spoke:
“Madam, this woman wants to join the Hyena Gang.
She took out Luca.”
Upon hearing the latter part, Samira’s eyes, which had been lost in the music, finally showed some life.
She sat up from the chaise longue and carefully scrutinized the battle-worn Levi.
“Not bad.”
Samira nodded with a smile, then stood up, walked over to Levi, and reached out to tilt his chin up.
Only now did Levi get a full view of this woman’s appearance: an exaggerated figure, a round face covered in freckles, and heavy smoky-eye makeup.
Her lips were as thick as the specialty grilled sausages of Midseashire, and her black eyelashes extended an inch like swords, giving anyone standing before her an inexplicable sense of pressure.
As for her height…
Levi couldn’t help but recall the description of Madam Red from the intel provided by Ms.
B: height under 1.6 meters.
Well, 1.5 meters certainly counts as under 1.6 meters.
“Truly not bad.”
Samira praised him again, though it was unclear whether she was complimenting Levi’s strength or his looks.
Then, she returned to the chaise longue, sat down, and crossed her short, thick legs, saying leisurely:
“I can let you join the Hyena Gang.
However, while being a gang member, you will also need to serve as a Kingfisher in the bar.”
“Kingfisher?”
Levi was a bit confused, not knowing what Samira meant by “Kingfisher.”
Hearing this, Lorine’s expression turned cold, and she said to Levi with some embarrassment:
“‘Kingfisher’ is industry slang; it means a streetwalker.”
Levi was speechless.
So that’s what the “Kingfisher” in Kingfisher Bar meant.
He refused decisively:
“I joined the gang to live with dignity, not to sell my body!”
Samira burst into laughter, an exaggerated sound like a raspy-voiced rooster crowing.
She slapped her thighs as she laughed, only stopping after a while to wipe tears from her eyes as she said to Levi:
“You’re the most naive person I’ve ever met.
Dignity?
Soul?
Bah!
What the hell are those worth?
We gangsters have no dignity to speak of; we’re just a pack of hyenas scavenging for carrion in the shadows!”
She spoke on, her tone turning cold before she put on a smile again:
“The female enforcers under me also serve some distinguished guests.
Don’t worry, you’re so beautiful and a member of the gang; I’ll make you the star of the Kingfisher Bar, unlike those whores who have to pay a cut.
By then, in the Kingfisher Bar, you’ll be the third most important person after me and Lorine!”
Levi fell silent.
If sacrificing his body would complete Ms.
B’s mission and avenge Jason, he wouldn’t hesitate.
But the problem was, even if he wanted to sacrifice himself, he simply couldn’t!
No matter how much he dressed like a woman, beneath the disguise was still a man’s body!
He didn’t have the “parts” for it!
Levi spoke in a suppressed voice:
“I refuse.
I want to prove my worth as an enforcer.”
Samira gave a light chuckle, and then her expression turned grim:
“That’s not up to you.”
She looked at Lorine and said:
“Lorine, take care of her first, then train her slowly until she has the self-awareness of a Kingfisher.”
“Yes, Madam.”
As Lorine nodded in response, she reached out quickly and grabbed Levi’s shoulder.
Levi instinctively tried to resist, but Lorine’s fair, slender fingers held immense strength.
With one grip, Levi’s bones groaned, and half of his body was rendered immobile.
“Such strength!
Is she a Beyonder too?!”
Levi was startled.
Before he could make another move, both his arms were pinned behind his back by Lorine, leaving him unable to move.
Holding Levi’s wrists with one hand and gripping the back of his neck with the other, Lorine pushed him out the door.
Samira watched this and asked with a smile:
“Why not just take care of her right here?
Let me have some fun watching too.”
“I still prefer a private space.”
Lorine answered simply and pushed Levi out.
Leaving Samira’s room, Levi felt the pressure on Lorine’s hands lessen, giving him some mobility.
He took a deep breath, preparing to use an Assassin’s agile physical qualities to break free and find an opportunity to escape.
Just as Levi was about to act, Lorine whispered in his ear:
“Don’t move.
I won’t hurt you!”
Levi was stunned.
For the moment, he didn’t make any reckless moves and cooperatively entered Lorine’s room on the second floor with her.
As soon as they entered, Lorine let go of him.
Levi quickly turned and backed away a few steps, reaching into a hidden pocket to grip his revolver.
“What do you want to do?”
Levi asked coldly.
