Early dawn sunlight trickled in through a slightly blinded curtain to an upstairs bedroom window, gently caressing the face of a young man who was currently resting in bed from a drinking party the previous night spent 'socialising' with his colleagues within the sales department of a medium sized corporate firm. Suddenly, a blearing alarm breaks out wailing a head-thumping tune causing this young man to groggily stir from his deep dreams.

Sitting up slowly with a headache inducing hangover, he stretches his left palm slamming the off button on the noisy alarm before catching his bearings.

"Ugh."

Wiping the dust from his eyes, he lazily slinks out of bed whilst taking in his surroundings trying to remember how he got back from the socialising work night out.

Seems one of my co-workers hailed a cab ensuring I got back safe. He muses inwardly thinking on who would be nice enough to do so.

Making his way out of the bedroom he goes across the hallway into the bathroom to wash up his face in cold water to wake himself up from the hangover. Looking into the mirror in front of him he saw reflected back a young, clean-shaven man with little to no stubble and piercing ocean blue eyes staring back at him, with hazel brown hair and face dripping with chilling water droplets as they fall into the sink. Leaning back, he catches glimpses of his broadened shoulders and slight muscle definition getting slightly lost in a trance before he hears loud thumps on the bathroom door.

THUMP THUMP

"Hey! when your finished up come downstairs, your girlfriends waiting for you." A slightly muffled voice was heard from the doors direction before hearing footfalls slowly disappearing in the distance. huh, my sister seems agitated this morning.

Drying up and messing his hair he walked out of the bathroom back into his bedroom locating his drawer pulling out a ruffled yet clean black t-shirt which he promptly dons upon himself before heading downstairs into the kitchen where there was a flurry of action going on. In the kitchen he saw his older sister sitting down by the table scrolling through her phone with a disgruntled expression whilst two other ladies were preparing breakfast.

"Ah, Lumian, can you go and grab the cutlery please?" came a soothing and motherly question proposed by the older of the two women without looking behind herself.

"Yes Mom." Lumian answered before heading to where the cutlery was hidden. Whilst preparing the cutlery on the table he took a moment to gaze at his girlfriend of five years, Camilla. She was short at around five foot five, with long black glossy hair reaching the middle of her back. She was of a slim build with a bit of a curve to her lower back and skin silky smooth that appeared pale like jade. She wore a brown leather jacket above a white tank top and a red skirt sitting just above the knees to her bare legs.

Camilla turned her head to the side revealing luscious red stained lips lifting into a curved smile while brushing her hair behind her ear giving Lumian a smoky gaze. "Hey, morning babe, get seated as breakfast is nearly ready." She says in a rather gentle tone, her emerald-green eyes pointing to the seat just in front of him.

"Sure thing dear." Lumian replies before wincing again from the headache. I really need to grab some medicine soon to help after having breakfast.

Slowly sitting down in front of his sister he looks in her direction noticing that she was having a look of anger and annoyance slowly crawl into her blue eyes as she stared down into her phone. She had a button nose with her lips drawn into a thin line, with dark brown hair cut short to her shoulders with blonde highlights at the tips.

"Did you finally get the highlights that you wanted Lisa?" Lumian asked, half wanting to temporarily distract his sister from her growing anger and half genuine curiosity.

Looking up from her phone, Lisa huffed before replying "Finally, someone fucking noticed unlike that son-of-a bitch Johnathan." Oh, it seems that jerk has done something to upset sis again, I bet it is him that she's arguing with on the phone... I really don't want to get into this with my headache right now.

"Language at the table dear." My mom says while dishing up a full English breakfast onto the plates for Camilla to bring forth onto the table. Mom was the splitting image of my older sister despite being older, you would have thought that they were twins from a distance despite some wrinkles revealed in the corners of her eyes and some parts of her skin starting to sag.

"Well, I think you look stunning." Lumian replied in a genuine tone to try and dispel some of his sister’s anger which led to her responding with a slight grunt and started to dig into breakfast.

His mother Melissa and Camilla then sit down at the table beside them and start a conversation between them as they want to catch up with each other. As they continue to converse Lumian starts getting lost in thought perhaps influenced by the slowly dying out headache. Last night was a pain especially Hailey and Jennifer commenting on what makes a 'real man' and that acting in any other way can be considered gay. "- So, what do you think Dear?" A question cutting through the depressive line of thought asked by Camilla while looking in my direction.

"Uh... Sorry I wasn't paying attention due to a headache from this morning do you mind repeating that?" Lumian replied in a sheepish tone.

"Jeez, always so scatter-brained, I asked what you thought about me dying some red streaks into my black hair with freshly painted red nails?" Camilla rolling her eyes asked again before smiling and wanting my input.

I closed my eyes, imagining my girlfriend wearing differing shades of red before some images of what it would look like on me to have red lipstick and painted nails on started to pop up. No, no that means nothing. suppressing that line of thought before opening my eyes and looking in her direction and saying, "I believe you would look good in blood red rather than a dark red as that would be difficult to differentiate and blood red would stand out honey."

As we continued the conversation, I noticed that outside was starting to get dark through the windows with trees bending from large gusts of wind. WHOOSH. Hmm that shouldn't be happening, the forecast says that it at most would be cloudy later in the evening. The fences rattled with further gusts of wind before a- BOOM CRACK -loud thunderous sound was heard.

"Huh, what was that?" Lisa called out looking up from her phone before glancing through the window as everyone else stopped eating to look that way as well.

"What's going o-" Melissa was about to ask something in concern before a massive flash of bright light suddenly blasted lighting up our retinas as I closed my eyes tightly trying to remove as much of the flash as I can.

Slowly opening my eyes, I see an endless expanse of a white void. After slowly taking it all in I realize there are no others here. No others here? where are they? mom? sis? Honey? I was slowly starting to become frantic before I heard a buzzing in my ears.

Bzz...SEARCHING...CONNECTING...Bzz crackle...CONNECTED...VERIFYING...VERIFIED...crackle.

I don't know this language yet, ... I understand it? what the fuck is going on? am I dreaming still?

"You are not dreaming, mortal named Lumian." A sudden voice from the void called out to me causing me to look into the voices general direction leading me to gaze upon another existence that recently appeared quietly out of thin air only, this other existence was only a general outline with no true defining features nearly as blank as this void. "You and your family are safe, only temporarily separated to deal with individually on a one-to-one basis."

"Who- No, what are you? can you send us back? what happened?" I try to question this being while holding in my inner fears, worries and panic even though I feel that it can see through me even without its features of eyes.

"My name is not important just know that I am a deity, one amongst many who require you in our world to help develop its direction and no, we are incapable of sending you back no matter how much you plead, beg or try and defy in anger."

What... so we can’t...shit. "Then what will happen to us now?" I ask through slightly gritted teeth and holding back slight tears thinking back to everything that will be left behind.

A disdaining tone in the voice answered with a hint of amusement "You are being sent down into a new world that has stagnated beyond reason and therefore, must bring change no matter what form it comes in... also, your current body is unsuitable for this new world thus requires advancement and change."

"Wh-what do you mean change? advancement to my abilities, hey, answer me!" I question slightly under my breath before realizing my body slowly disappearing out of existence.

"Goodbye mortal." That condescending voice being the last I hear before another flash of light causes me to blank out.
