“Sit down, Carter.
We have a lot to discuss” My father said.
I faked a smile at my stepmother then went to the couch and sat down.
“Carter” the Kingpin began.
“Yes Sir”
“Since you are now married, I suggest you move back into the house with your wife” he began.
“I would love it, Sir but I don’t think my wife would love it,” I replied.
I can’t bluntly refuse, so let me push it to Abigail.
Since he kinda likes her, he might listen to her.
“Okay then, I will ask her at dinner” he said and settled back into the couch.
“Is there anything else father?” I asked.
“No, you can go”
I stood up to thank him and left the house feeling so disappointed, I thought he wanted to talk about handing me his empire.
Outside, I got into the car and drove back to my house where I dressed quickly and left for a meeting.
The meeting lasted for two hours after which I went to my office and sat down.
There was a knock on my door, “who is that?” I asked.
“It is Mary” the person replied.
“Come in Mary” I ordered.
The door opened and Mary, my secretary, came into the office carrying some documents.
She hesitated a little at the door before she approached my desk, her hand clutching the documents nervously.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Um, Sir these are..are..the documents you asked for” she stuttered.
I knew the reason why she was stuttering, she was afraid of me, everyone in this company was.
Lush clothing accessories, I could still remember how I got it from an enemy which I took hostage.
I still remember the shock and horror in the employees face when I came to the company with some documents and a lawyer announcing that I was the new owner.
I found out that he was lying about something I asked about, that was that he had to die.
“Good, keep it on the desk,” I said.
She kept it on the desk and then stood, “you can leave now, Mary” I said.
“Okay sir” she replied and left the office.
When she left I glanced at the documents on the desk, taking a deep breath and I stood out carrying the documents.
I left the company, entered my car and drove back home.
“Welcome back, my husband,” Abigail greeted me when I entered the living room.
I almost laughed out loud at the title, that was something I never wanted to be called in my life.
“I prepared lunch for you,” she said, approaching me.
“Lunch?” I asked.
“Yes, lunch for you,” she replied, smiling.
I followed her to the dining table and sat down, she opened the plate and urged me to dig in.
I took the spoon about to start eating but I couldn’t, “what’s wrong with you?” I demanded.
She sighed softly, “I was just doing what you want me to, being the perfect wife for you till the contract ends” she replied.
I didn’t believe what she said but I let the matter go for now.
“Aren’t you eating?” I looked at her and there was no food in front of her.
“Oh, I have eaten before you came back,” Abigail replied.
“How disobedient !.
A wife should wait for her husband to eat food with him” I began.
Her eyes turned sharply to me, I knew what was going to happen even before it did.
“So you are saying that I should stay hungry and wait for you !”
“That’s what a good wife would have done but…
She stood up and wanted to walk away, “if you take another step Abigail, I will remind you the reason why your Dad just gave you away to me without a fight” I warned.
“Hating me won’t help you, it would only worsen your case so come back here and sit down” I commanded.
After I said that she walked back to the chair and sat down till I finished eating then she took the plate away.
“Rodrigo !” I called.
“Yes Boss” he answered, rushing to the dining room.
“Get the documents in my car, we have work to do” I ordered.
“Okay Boss”
He left and came back later with the documents and we went to my private study room to work on them.
“Sir, our shipments from China will arrive tomorrow,” Rodrigo began.
“I know, let’s focus on Luchie today,” I replied.
“He nodded and began flipping through the documents, as he was doing that my mind went back to what my father said in the morning.
“Since you are now married, I suggest you move back into the house with your wife”, my father’s statement rang in my head.
He wants me to move back in, why?.
I married just like he wanted, now he wants me to move back knowing That I can’t stand his wife and son.
“Boss, I think you need some rest,” Rodrigo said, interrupting my thoughts.
“No, I am fine let me see the financial records”
He gave them to me and I started studying it carefully so as not to miss any details.
After one hour, we were done with the documents so we started talking about my shipments.
The ones that have arrived and the one on its way.
“Make sure that nothing will come later than the intended time it was supposed to come” I said referring to the shipments on the way.
“Yes Boss, everything is perfect, I can assure you that nothing will go wrong”
Rodrigo never disappointed me even and I knew that it won’t start now.
“You can leave,” I told him.
“Okay Boss” he gathered the documents, bowed and left the study room.
I was about to stand up when my phone rang, “I still remember the dinner, father” I said when I answered the call.
