I took a sip then placed it on the small table beside me, “please can you switch on the television?” I asked the maid.
“Sure, Madam” she went to the television and took the remote on the table and turned it on.
The channel was showing a baking competition so I decided to watch and I lost track of time.
“Abigail !”
I turned only to see Carter’s father descending the stairs with Nate.
“Let’s go dear” he said when he came down completely.
I got up from the couch and walked to him, we then left the house.
Outside, there was a small car waiting there, “We will meet again, Mrs Snow” Nate said to me.
I was puzzled for a moment with the name, “don’t be surprised dear, that’s your name now” the Kingpin said.
“And this is Barrister Nate Strong, my lawyer, I forgot to introduce you to him,” he added.
“Oh, it is nice to meet you, Barrister Nate,” I greeted.
“Nice to meet you too,” he replied.
“We will be on our way Nate, I will talk to you on the phone” Carter’s father said and we then entered the small car which drove us to the gate.
We reached the gate, alighted and went out of it, our own car was already parked too waiting.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting, Abigail”
“It is fine, Sir” I replied surprised that he was apologizing at me
Maybe he was not all bad like he was painted by the world, maybe he could behave like a normal human being.
Those were the thoughts I had in my mind as we walked towards the car.
When the driver saw us approaching, he got out immediately and opened the back seat for us.
I entered first followed by the Kingpin and the driver then closed the door and got into the driver’s seat.
“Drive to our new restaurant at Guilford street” he ordered.
“Yes Boss” the driver started the car and drove away.
“The place is very nice and beautiful” I replied.
“Yeah it is, my house was like that before but I was forced to renovate it”
“Oh it is very hard to tell”
“I ordered the services of the best builders in town, it actually took six months to renovate” he explained.
“Wow, there must be a lot of work to do there,” I said.
“Tons but thankfully they did it just like I want it to be” The kingpin replied.
“Boss, we have arrived,” the driver announced.
I looked out of the window only to see that we had arrived at a very fancy restaurant.
I got out and waited for the kingpin to come out too, he came out and walked to where I was standing.
“Steve !” He called and the driver came rushing to him.
“I have something to give you, bring out your left arm” he ordered.
The driver brought his arm out waiting for the thing he wanted to give him.
Carter’s father pushed his hands into his pants and brought out something.
I decided to look away so that he would give the driver the stuff.
But then I heard a muffled groan only for me to look back and see that the Kingpin had stabbed a knife on the driver’s arm.
“You are lucky I didn’t behead you” was what the Kingpin said before he took out the knife from the driver’s arm.
I stared in horror at the blood gushing out from the arm to the one dripping from the knife.
Causally, he took out his handkerchief and wiped the blood from the knife while telling the driver that he should be honored that his blood was being cleaned by his handkerchief.
The Kingpin must have noticed my reaction because he turned to me and asked if I was okay.
“I am fine” I whispered and wanted to walk away.
But I couldn’t even take the second step before my legs gave up and I fell on the floor welcoming the darkness that was coming with it.
I woke up with a start glancing sharply at my surroundings, I just had a terrible dream.
As I looked around, I realized that I was in a very beautiful restaurant and was sitting on the table.
“I glad that you are awake, you almost gave me a heart attack”
I looked at the direction of the voice and saw my father-in-law, sitting opposite me with a glass of wine in his hands.
There was a red stain on his shirt which wasn’t from the wine because it was white in colour.
I felt a sharp pain in my head as I remembered what happened earlier that made me faint.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, taking a sip of his wine.
As I opened my mouth to talk my throat was as dry as a desert.
The Kingpin signalled the waiter who brought a glass of water for me immediately.
I took it and gulped it down and kept the glass on the table.
“I am fine, sir” I managed to reply.
“Call me father, I am now your father-in-law” he requested.
“Okay father” I replied, wishing I would just vanish away from his presence.
“I should have sent you in first before attending to Steve but then I wanted to show you how you can make a name” he began.
“What the hell is this old geezer talking about?” I wondered.
“Being the wife of my first son you have to make a name for yourself, a very powerful name” he continued, reaching into his pocket.
He brought out the knife he used to stab the driver and raised it up.
“This is the least of what you can use to make a name for yourself, but that’s for later not now”
“Let’s eat first, I know that you are hungry,” he said.
