I walked through the maze-like encampment, deep in thought about all I had seen and learned over the last day. It’s been a rollercoaster, even though it’s only been two days since I transmigrated. Hell, I don’t even know how or why I transmigrated, and I might never get those answers. After all, who do I ask?

It’s even more surreal to realize that I am no longer a normal human have basically become superhuman. Not long after departing from the general, who only told me to do my best to impress him, I decided to try jumping, and I could jump as high as most of the tents went. Then, when I took off running, I realized I could cross the entire camp in under five minutes. Before, that would have taken at least twenty.

Eventually, I did get lost, though, as I had no idea where the Quartermaster’s tent was. It’s different from the Logistics tent, as they handled lower-end, more common gear and items, such as food and reserve weapons. I pulled aside a nearby Knight who was walking around, with all his armor on except his helmet.Full novel: Martial Anomaly — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He was a plain-looking man, with a burn scar on the left side of his face and short brown hair. He didn’t say much when I asked for directions, only pointing to the east and saying, "Look for the tent with the crossed swords."

Sounded simple enough to me, so I happily got to running, enjoying my newfound physical capabilities. In the end, it didn’t take too long to find what I was looking for when I had that description; after all, important tents tended to be much larger than the average. Then, I noticed the crossed swords above the entrance. It made me wonder how they decided whether to use a symbol like crossed swords or just spell it out, like the Logistics tent.

Anyway, I walked inside and realized the place was practically empty. Just a single man was lazily perched over a counter, which I could see led to where all the gear was. The man had just finished yawning when I walked in and perked up immediately upon seeing me enter.

"Finally, something to do!" The pot-bellied middle-aged man excitedly exclaimed as he stood straight, beckoning me forward.

"Wow, I thought you’d be upset at more work to do, instead of less?" I questioned with a light chuckle as I walked over to the counter.

He seemed taken aback by my remark. "Me? No way! I live to serve! For the Emperor!" The man bowed slightly at the waist, while bringing his right arm over his chest. "So, how can Lazlo help you today?"

I handed over a small envelope that the general had given me. "Here for my gear. Oh, and a tent."

The man opened it up, quickly read it over, and placed it to the side. "Alright, full armor for a new Knight, a weapon of your choice, and a bunking assignment. What kind of weapon do ya want?"

I raised my hands, showing my gauntlets. "I am good with these unless you’ve got a better version?"

"Oh, how interesting, claw gauntlets. Rarely see those used. Only better version would be an Adamantium pair, and even if I had them, I wouldn’t be authorized to issue them. Wait here a moment, and I’ll bring the armor," he looks at my gauntlets with interest before shaking his head and walks toward the back.

I only had to wait a moment before he came walking back, struggling to drag a large duffel-looking bag. He slid it under the counter to me as he started to pant in exhaustion.

"Alright, there you go. The full set is inside. I recommend trying it on a few times to get the hang of it before you actually have to rush into a battle, as it can be quite complicated. Also, do remember the armor doesn’t guarantee safety and is only meant to increase your survival chances, so don’t rely on it. Inside the bag is also a maintenance kit. If the armor is damaged, take it to the armorsmith, and only come back if he can’t do anything. Understood?" Lazlo explains in a clearly rehearsed manner.

I pick up the bag and feel its weight. ’Heavy,’ I thought to myself, though not unbearably so. "Yeah, understood. Now, bunking arrangements?"

The man’s eyes widened as if he had just remembered. "Right. Here you go, tent B4D7 has open bunk space."

I look at the man and let out a sigh. "Uh, yeah, I don’t know what all the B4D7 stuff means?"

"Seriously? Whatever, fine," he says, an annoyed tinge in his voice. Lazlo then pulls out a map that shows the encampment. "Now, this map isn’t to exact specifications, as some things get moved around with each transfer of the camp. Look here," he says, pointing at the far northwest edge of the camp.

"The sectors go from west to east, and there are always four sectors in a row. So here starts sector A1, then A2, A3, A4. Then it starts back at the west with B1, B2, B3, B4, and so on. Got it?" He asks to make sure I am following along so far, to which I nod.

He then moves his finger to sector B4. "This is the sector you are staying in. Then you get to the tent number. These also start in the west, going east, with the only difference being that these go up to nine. So, find row D, tent seven. Each tent houses up to twenty-five Knights, and every tent has a captain. That is your unit from here on out," he puts the map away and goes back to lounging against the counter.

I walk out, seeing that this man has no further intention of saying anything else. Either way, I was happy to finally have a method of finding my way around the camp, and it wasn’t too complicated. As I exited the tent, I looked to see if the quartermaster tent had any of those indicators on it, so I could see where I currently was.

Finally, I was able to find it on the western corner of the tent, where it read "C2A5", which meant I had to go northeast to get to where I needed to go.

Knowing what those codes meant, it ended up being quite easy to find my way around, and getting to sector B4 only took a few minutes, even when lugging around this heavy bag. Then I only had to go down to row D and east to tent seven. Before I knew it, I stood outside the tent where I was going to be staying for the foreseeable future. ’I wonder what kind of people are in my unit.’ The thought passed through my mind.
