“Mm.”
Hearing Coulson’s words, Nick said nothing and simply nodded calmly.
Coulson was his subordinate, and Nick had complete trust in Coulson’s abilities in every respect.
Since Coulson had said this, then Jones shouldn’t be a problem.
After thinking for a moment, Nick spoke directly.
“Let’s do this.
That Jones wants an American identity, right?
Tony probably hasn’t started working on it yet.
We’ll get it done first and send it over.
That way, we can also build some goodwill with Tony Stark ahead of time.
“As for what Jones wants to do afterward, we’ll see when the time comes.
If it isn’t troublesome, we can also make things a little easier for him.”
“Understood!”
Hearing Nick’s words, Coulson had no objections.
In fact, his opinion was basically the same as Nick’s.
Helping Jones with something this minor wasn’t troublesome at all, and it would also earn them some goodwill with Tony Stark.
Why not do it?
If Jones knew what the two of them were planning, he would probably laugh out loud.
They wanted to use helping him as a way to improve their relationship with Tony, yet they had no idea that Jones and Tony could already be considered enemies.
What they were doing would simply end up making things more unpleasant for Tony.
Unfortunately, Jones knew nothing about their plans right now, so all he could do was obediently stay in the hotel Tony had arranged for him.
Yes, a hotel!
Just like in the original story, Tony had announced that Stark Industries would suspend its weapons division.
But in reality, a Tony who had made such an important decision couldn’t simply ignore everything like he had in the movie.
He still had a huge mess to clean up.
And unlike Coulson, Nick Fury, and the others, Tony knew very well just how mysterious this man was.
He had survived the center of such a terrifying explosion, then managed to accurately find a U.S.
military helicopter in the middle of an endless desert.
More importantly, he had actually dared to say that Tony would eventually be poisoned by palladium and that he knew the truth behind his father’s death.
And…
he had even managed to convince Tony to act exactly according to his predictions, leaving Tony completely helpless to resist.
Therefore, Tony absolutely didn’t dare take Jones to his home.
Instead, he simply arranged for Jones to stay at a hotel.
Of course, even though Jones had left an extremely deep impression on Tony and made him extraordinarily cautious, Tony couldn’t simply do nothing.
Pushing Jones into the spotlight at the press conference was the first method Tony had come up with to deal with him.
Although he didn’t know whether it would be useful, it would at least make Jones somewhat more cautious about his actions.
…
Standing quietly outside the hotel room, Tony genuinely didn’t want to see this man who seemed to have everything under control.
But…
after standing there silently for a moment, Tony still raised his hand and gently knocked on the door.
Tony didn’t have to wait long.
Only a few seconds later, Jones opened the door.
Looking at Tony’s serious expression, a mysterious smile appeared on Jones’s face.
“Tony Stark, are you here to fulfill your promise?”
“Oh~”
Hearing Jones’s words, Tony froze for a moment, but his expression immediately returned to normal.
Instead of answering Jones directly, Tony stepped into the room before speaking softly.
“You’re thinking too much…
Right now, I’m just here to check on you.
You should know that even for me, getting American citizenship isn’t something that can be settled that easily.
You need to be patient!”
“Is that so?”
Jones smiled faintly but said nothing.
An American identity might be incredibly difficult for an ordinary person to obtain, but for someone at Tony’s level, it was absolutely a trivial matter that could be handled in no time.
Tony was saying this simply because he wanted to stall for time.
“So, what exactly did Mr.
Stark come here for?”
Jones turned toward Tony, his expression completely calm.
As for the listening devices Tony had secretly placed around the room, Jones simply ignored them.
He wasn’t planning to have any secret meetings with anyone, nor did he have a habit of talking to himself alone in his room.
If Tony wanted to plant bugs, Tony could plant as many as he liked.
Jones didn’t care.
Pretending to casually look around the room, Tony discreetly planted four or five listening devices.
After finishing everything, he turned toward Jones with an expression of complete nonchalance.
“Mr.
Jones, although we haven’t resolved your identity problem yet, it’ll be taken care of soon enough.
I was thinking, perhaps we could discuss our next deal?”
“Our next deal?”
Hearing Tony’s words, Jones curled his lip, a look of disdain appearing on his face.
“Mr.
Stark, you’re a businessman too.
If you were in my position, and you’d already shipped the goods while the other party hadn’t paid yet, would you start discussing the next deal with him?
Are you kidding me?”
“Uh…”
Tony’s expression didn’t change in the slightest.
“You have to understand that getting a legal identity in America isn’t that easy, especially now that you’re already something of a public figure.
While we’re waiting for that to be settled, discussing the plan for our next deal would save us some time, wouldn’t it?”
“Are you threatening me?”
Jones gave Tony a cold look, and a flash of icy light suddenly erupted from his eyes.
