Victor carefully pushed the window open and silently stepped into the room.

Governor General Edmund, who was still swinging the candle on the bed, suddenly felt a chill and a light breeze enter the room.

Ignoring the seductive behavior of the black beauty, he was just about to turn around and check what was happening.

Crack!

Two enormous hands grabbed his head and twisted his neck a full three hundred and sixty degrees.

Governor General Edmund finally managed to see the person who had interrupted him, but he could no longer open his mouth and speak.

The terrified black beauty was just about to scream, but a trace of disgust appeared in Victor’s green eyes, and with one squeeze he crushed her throat.

When he was preparing to leave the room, he happened to glance at a book lying open on the writing desk.

On the page was an image of a werewolf howling toward the sky with its head raised, which immediately attracted his attention.

After a brief hesitation, Victor picked up the book and shoved it under his clothes.

He climbed back onto the roof through the balcony and began observing the Governor General’s residence.

Not long afterward, a fierce fire erupted in the stables on the western side.

The flames rising toward the sky attracted everyone’s attention, and the servants and guards rushed toward the stables in panic.

The Governor General’s favorite mare, Black Queen, was still inside.

If anything happened to her, everyone would be severely punished.

The peaceful estate was completely engulfed in chaos.

Victor seized the opportunity, returned by the way he had come, crossed over the wall, and disappeared into the dark forest.

A day later, Nathan Cole brought Victor and the others back to the estate, after which they reported the results of the operation in the study.

Aron lowered the newspaper he was holding and looked completely calmly at those gathered before him.

“You did the job well. Go eat something and get a good rest. For the next period, do not leave the estate.”

“Victor, you stay. I need to talk to you.”

Nathan and the others looked at one another.

Although they did not understand why Victor had to stay, they respectfully bowed and left the study.

As they passed Victor, they winked at him and silently moved their lips.

From the movement of their mouths, it was possible to understand that they were saying:

“Good luck. You’re on your own now!”

Aron rose from his chair and sharply looked at Victor.

“I remember clearly saying not to make any unnecessary moves. Have you completely lost your mind?”

“Why did you bring this book from the Governor General’s residence? Take it out so I can see whether it’s some bedtime story for a kid who still wears diapers.”

Even when they first entered the study, Aron had already examined their memories through Telepathy and seen the entire operation.

Nathan’s command had been decisive, while the calmness of Vine, Smith, and Rodman greatly satisfied him.

Victor had also carried out the task well, but just before leaving, he made a mistake and took a book from the Governor General’s residence.

On the surface, it was an insignificant matter.

After all, it was only one book.

However, who could know whether the disappearance of that very book might reveal a clue from the carefully executed operation and leave behind a fatal weakness? Visit novelping(.)com for the full chapter.

Thinking about it, Aron once again gave Victor a sharp look.

That guy still needed a great deal of teaching.

The tall and powerful Victor trembled, took out the book he had brought along the way, and handed it to him.

“Written by Lucian Head?”

Aron began flipping through the yellowed book, and the author’s name on the title page made him think.

The full name of the murdered Governor General was Edmund Walker Head.

Obviously, the man who had written this book was one of his ancestors.

When he looked at the year of printing, he saw that the book had been published all the way back in 1625.

It had been preserved for more than two hundred years.

Aron raised an eyebrow, now somewhat interested, then waved toward Victor.

“Leave. Tell Ethan to lock you in the total-isolation cell for three days. Don’t let me see you wandering around in front of me again!”

Victor’s face changed color.

He had already heard of the terrifying reputation of that cell.

It was said that no matter how strong a person was, no one could endure three days inside.

In that dark cell, a person could not see even their own fingers or hear any sound.

In complete darkness and silence, every second felt as though it lasted a year.

People with weak wills would probably go insane from that soundless environment before enduring even a single day.

Victor’s lips moved several times.

He wanted to say a few words in his own defense, but his strong pride forced him to swallow everything that came to his tongue.

He gritted his teeth, bowed, and left.

Aron looked as though he were completely focused on the book, but in reality, he was carefully following Victor’s thoughts.

The brief flash of fear in his heart could not escape the all-encompassing Telepathy.

The corners of Aron’s lips lifted slightly, after which he turned his attention back to the book.

The first several dozen pages described Lucian’s travels across the European continent.

He recorded local ghost legends and terrifying stories he heard from the inhabitants, adding drawings of monsters as he imagined them.

Aron soon found the contents somewhat boring, so he began rapidly flipping through the pages.

When he reached the illustration of the werewolf, he noticed that the paper beneath his fingers was somewhat thicker.

Without hesitation, he cut open the illustration with a knife.

Tiny lines of writing appeared before his eyes.

After reading only a few sentences, he immediately sat upright with a serious expression.

“I was drawn by the hidden history of love and hatred between vampires and werewolves, so I came to this remote village in order to learn from the local inhabitants stories that almost no one knows. However, after a terrifying full-moon night, I discovered with horror that they truly exist!”

“That night was very unusual. The moon in the sky was round and brighter than ever before. While I watched that rare moonlight, the silver light before my eyes suddenly turned blood-red, and endless wolf howls sounded from every direction. I became so frightened that I hid under the bed…”

“I smelled blood and saw enormous gray paws walking in front of me. The rapid and heavy breathing sounded like a beast sniffing out its prey. I was so terrified that my muscles completely gave out. I thought it would find me and eat me. Fortunately, an explosion echoed from the other side of the village, and the werewolf left.”

“When I heard the heavy breathing moving away, I could not help but breathe a sigh of relief. I crawled out from under the bed and wanted to escape from that horrible place. However, the moment I ran through the door, an enormous wolf’s head appeared before me. It moved as fast as lightning. I only felt two rows of sharp fangs pierce the skin of my neck and sink deeply around my cervical vertebrae. The beast violently shook my body like a predator that had seized its prey, while terrible pain and darkness flooded my consciousness.”

“When I woke up again, I did not even have time to feel grateful that I was still alive. To my horror, I realized that my mouth was full of blood, while pieces of flesh remained beneath my fingernails. I instinctively vomited, and among the contents of my stomach was a strand of long golden hair. Only then did I realize that I too had become a monster.”

“My children, I am glad that you were born before I became a monster, so this cursed blood will not stain the bloodline of the Head family. As I write this letter, the monster hunters are getting closer and closer to discovering my secret. Their sense of smell is extraordinarily sharp, and I must leave London. I am sorry that I will not be able to be with you as you grow up. If I manage to escape this time, one day I will return to visit you.”

Lucian Head

March 3, 1634.

Aron rubbed the short beard on his chin and thoughtfully ran his fingers over the other illustrations in the book.

Unfortunately, all the other pages were thin, and he did not find any additional hidden layer.

“Tsk, tsk. It seems I possess some kind of gift for attracting monsters. I’ve already encountered both vampires and werewolves.”

“The people of the Head family really know how to hide themselves. The man who wrote this book even managed to live in London for five years before the monster hunters tracked him down and forced him to flee.”

As he spoke, the book in his hand suddenly burst into flames and, in only a few moments, turned into a pile of ash on the floor.

He lightly rang the bell, and the maid waiting outside entered the room.

“Lalina, clean the ash from the floor!”

The maid nodded slightly, took the necessary tools from the utility room, and quickly began cleaning.

Aron regarded the book as nothing more than an interesting travel journal he had read in his spare time.

When the maid left, he once again devoted himself completely to family affairs.

Seven days later.

News of Governor General Edmund’s death suddenly spread throughout Canada.

By the time the shocking news reached the more distant parts of the country, several days had already passed.

The Governor General’s office deliberately blocked all details.

The population throughout Canada knew only that the Governor General was dead and that a large number of guards and servants had been arrested for questioning.

However, among the nobility and members of high society, a completely different story circulated.

Governor General Edmund had been found dead on his bed, while a naked black maid had also been killed beside him.

For the reputation and dignity of the governor’s administration, such details could under no circumstances be made public.

No one knew who the killer was, how he had silently entered the extremely well-guarded residence, brutally killed the Governor General, and then disappeared without leaving any trace.

It was the first time in the history of the British Empire that a state official holding the position of Governor General had been assassinated.

The royal family and cabinet sent their best forensic doctors and most experienced investigators to uncover the truth.

At the same time, numerous military units headed toward the colony to strengthen control and protect government officials.

On the ship Irish, which was sailing toward Canada, a middle-aged man with a high nose and deep-set eyes angrily tore apart the newspaper he was holding and threw the pieces into the turbulent sea.

“Whoever the killer is, he’s dead!”

“The pure bloodline of the Head family has now been severed. Grand Elder Lucian will completely lose his mind. We must find the killer and kill him before he awakens. Perhaps then we can redeem our guilt.”

The middle-aged man spoke quietly to himself, while his pupils were narrow and vertical like those of an animal.

At that moment, a pleasant female voice sounded behind him:

“Deputy Leader Lawrence, Leader Michael is looking for you!”

The middle-aged man turned around.

The vertical pupils had already disappeared, and his eyes once again looked completely human.
