“Be careful!
Don’t let your guard down!”
After receiving a harsh lesson from Russell earlier, Alan had unconsciously begun viewing Russell as his commanding officer.
So even though he was eager to test his strength, he only dared to act after getting Russell’s permission.
The moment Alan finished transforming, Mutant Jack, who was rampaging through the area, spotted him.
However, Alan in his form as a little green giant only drew a brief glance from Mutant Jack.
Although Mutant Jack seemed to have completely lost his mind after mutating, he hadn’t truly lost his sanity.
He still retained a lingering fraction of his original thoughts.
And occupying a huge portion of those remaining thoughts was pure hatred for Russell.
Jack’s mutation hadn’t erased his hatred for Russell; in fact, it made it burn even hotter.
If not for Russell, he would never have turned into this hideous monster, nor would he have become the very mutated metahuman he hated most.
And the primary culprit behind all of this was Russell standing right beside Alan—that dark-haired Asian kid who grew more repulsive to him by the second.
“AAARRGH!”
Mutant Jack suddenly roared and charged toward Russell like a enraged elephant.
As Mutant Jack sprinted, the ground vibrated beneath his heavy steps, his massive body completely blocking the entire corridor.
Facing the charging Mutant Jack, Alan—now a little green giant—was the first to intercept him, only to be easily knocked flying.
Larger creatures possessed greater strength; that was a universal truth.
At this moment, Mutant Jack perfectly embodied the concept of unstoppable force.
Having been hurled through the air, Alan slammed heavily against the wall, using it to stabilize himself before involuntarily shaking his dazed head.
With a single collision, Mutant Jack had demonstrated unmatched, monstrous strength, sending a wave of tension through everyone present.
If even transformed Alan couldn’t block Mutant Jack’s power, who else in this base could possibly stand against him?
Although Russell’s overall combat capability was higher than Alan’s, that was only because his combat experience and tactical awareness were far superior.
In terms of pure physical attributes, Russell was the weakest among the three Abomination soldiers.
“Head to the training ground!
It’s too cramped here to fight!” Russell turned and called out to Hathaway and Wilson.
“To the training ground?
Won’t that just give him even more freedom to rampage?”
Wilson was no fighter, so he couldn’t understand why Russell would give up the narrow corridor advantage in favor of an open arena better suited for Mutant Jack’s power. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
Because of Mutant Jack’s massive body, a corridor normal for ordinary people acted as a clear restraint on him.
“This place restricts him, but it restricts us just as much!”
Russell gave a brief explanation to address Wilson’s doubt, then led the way toward the training ground.
On his way to the training ground, Russell grabbed Jasper Sitwell in passing, carrying him along.
“What do you think you’re doing?
Unhand me!
I order you to escort me out of here immediately!
That’s an order, soldier!”
The moment he was hauled up by Russell, Jasper shouted loudly, attempting to use his superior rank to order Russell to cover his escape.
“Shut your mouth if you want to live!”
Russell paid no mind to Jasper’s frantic demands.
To keep Jasper from making any more noise, Russell struck him across the back of the neck with the edge of his hand, knocking him unconscious.
Reaching the training ground, Russell tossed the unconscious Jasper aside like trash and walked to the center of the arena.
The training ground remained in ruins, littered with shattered crates and cracked walls.
Even the bloodstains left behind when Russell was injured hadn’t been cleaned up yet.
“Looks like this is where we settle this once and for all.”
Once inside the arena, Russell took off his jacket, loosened his joints, and waited silently for Mutant Jack’s arrival.
Alan, Hathaway, and the others soon arrived at the training ground, accompanied by Dr.
Wilson and the few surviving Hydra soldiers.
Though twenty to thirty Hydra soldiers remained, virtually all of them were injured.
And even if unharmed, they could pose no threat whatsoever to Mutant Jack.
Apart from the Hydra soldiers, Alan and Hathaway were equally incapable of dealing serious damage to Mutant Jack.
Neither had completed their soldier training yet; relying on pure physical instinct, they were no match for Mutant Jack.
Whether in combat experience, tactical awareness, or post-enhancement physical attributes, they lagged far behind him.
You don’t need to step in—just stand back and cheer for me!”
Alan and Hathaway had intended to lend Russell a hand, but Russell’s words squashed their intention.
Even though he planned to take on Mutant Jack alone, Russell wasn’t entirely certain he would emerge victorious.
Still, in battle, anything was possible.
If one waited for absolute certainty before taking action, what fun was there in living?
Crushing weaklings offered quick gratification, but it brought none of the honor that came from defeating a superior foe.
Russell didn’t have to wait long.
Though Mutant Jack struggled somewhat through the narrow corridors, he eventually reached the training ground.
Like a furious beast, Mutant Jack leaped through the entrance doors and landed heavily in the center of the arena.
“KILL…
YOU!”
Perhaps due to his mutation, Jack’s speech seemed impaired.
His words sounded less like speech and more like low, guttural roars.
“Show me what you’ve got, you mutated freak!”
Russell intentionally used the term “mutated freak” to mock Jack, who had always harbored intense hostility toward metahumans.
Didn’t you look down on metahumans?
Didn’t you detest metahumans?
Didn’t you hate metahumans?
Now look at you—you’ve turned into the very thing you hated and despised most.
You’re nothing but an arrogant loser, a useless piece of trash!
Sure enough, upon hearing the words “mutated freak,” Mutant Jack—already fuming with rage—went completely ballistic.
Fists larger than Russell’s waist slammed wildly against the ground in a frenzied rage, like a giant mad gorilla carving deep craters into the floor before him.
“I’LL…
KILL…
YOU!”
