S.H.I.E.L.D.
was the most important security organization on Earth in the Marvel Universe; the Avengers were even formed through their intervention.
Amakusa naturally knew about them.
Not only did he know of them, he understood them very well.
However, knowing about them was one thing; he himself could not understand why S.H.I.E.L.D.
would come looking for him.
As far as he was concerned, he had not done anything excessive so far, nor had he shown any signs of posing a threat to the world.
Why would they come to him?
Was it because of Lancelot?
Lancelot had previously caused the New York Police Department quite a headache, and when he returned earlier, he had entered by pushing the door open, something that might have been witnessed by someone else and prompted them to investigate.
But it shouldn’t have been enough to make S.H.I.E.L.D.
get involved, right?
Even Spider-Man had been heavily criticized by the New York Police Department without making S.H.I.E.L.D.
lift a finger.
Therefore, facing Coulson, one of Marvel’s hardest-working agents, Amakusa was filled with confusion and curiosity.
“Excuse me, is there something I can help you with?”
“Could we speak inside?”
“Of course.
No problem.”
Opening the door wide, Amakusa invited Coulson and several others into the church.
The people who entered the church began looking around.
Only Coulson paid little attention to his surroundings, instead keeping his eyes on Amakusa; he was observing him.
Amakusa did not feel worried in the slightest.
As usual, his face carried the warm smile that had become his trademark.
“Please, have a seat.”
“Thank you very much.”
Coulson sat down on the long pew to the left of the church.
His people spread out around various corners of the church.
Amakusa sat on the left, while Mash stood beside him.
“Go ahead.
What would you like to know?”
Coulson thought for a moment before finally speaking.
“Pastor Amakusa, we’ve looked into some information regarding your church.”
“You and Miss Mash are both orphans who were adopted by this church when you were young and raised here in New York.
Not long ago, the pastor who adopted you passed away, leaving the two of you to inherit this church and continue operating it, serving the people in the surrounding community as usual.” This chapter was taken from novelping(.)com without permission.
This was the background identity the system had arranged for Amakusa and Mash, and it was quite an interesting identity.
“However, recently we discovered that someone suspected of being a terrorist has been coming and going from your church.
In fact, he entered this church just a short while ago and then left again.”
“Could you explain your relationship with him?
You should know that the man suspected of being a terrorist is connected to the recent kidnapping of Stark Industries Chairman Tony Stark.”
Unexpectedly, it really was because of Lancelot.
It just wasn’t because of the incident involving the New York police.
Instead, it was because of the Tony Stark kidnapping incident.
Tony was not merely an ordinary executive at Stark Industries.
His father had been one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Therefore, Tony and his Stark Industries had always been under S.H.I.E.L.D.’s surveillance.
Tony himself was especially important.
His technological discoveries were the most groundbreaking in the world; one could say that he held tremendous influence over the direction of technological development across the planet.
Under these circumstances, when someone kidnapped Tony, they naturally paid extremely close attention to the matter.
S.H.I.E.L.D., which had always assigned people to monitor Tony, discovered that an armored man had appeared beside him.
Los Angeles was the first place where the man appeared in front of Tony.
Then, aboard the plane heading to Afghanistan, the aircraft’s pilot was knocked unconscious and thrown into the changing room.
When the pilot was later found, he claimed that an armored man had knocked him unconscious.
In other words, the armored man had disguised himself as the pilot, and after Tony arrived in Afghanistan, he was immediately kidnapped.
It was extremely difficult not to connect these incidents to one another.
Therefore, this armored man was immediately placed on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s watch list.
After investigating, they discovered that the man had first appeared in New York, flirting with numerous women on the streets, then using his own strength to confront the New York Police Department and escape without a scratch, while also destroying several police cars.
Now, the man who appeared to have deliberately shown up beside Tony had been spotted in New York again.
The timing of his appearance also happened to coincide with Tony’s return to America.
This inevitably forced them to come and check the situation.
Lancelot had not gone anywhere and had only entered this church.
Furthermore, there was a young girl inside the church whose hair color was just as “striking” as his, making the situation even more worthy of their attention.
Faced with Coulson’s questions, Amakusa found the whole thing rather amusing.
He had never expected that the reason he had ended up on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s watch list had nothing to do with his own actions, but rather with Lancelot’s movements.
However, since Coulson had already come, he would certainly need to obtain some information before leaving.
Making excuses or fabricating stories would serve no purpose, so Amakusa decided to tell him a few facts.
“Let me introduce you.
This is my assistant, Mash, Mash Kyrielight.
“Yes, we have all the information on Miss Mash.”
“The man you’re looking for and suspect of being a terrorist is Mash’s father.”
Amakusa introduced him with a smile on his face.
“Just as stated in your records, Mash and I are both orphans who were adopted by this church and raised here from a young age.”
“However, Mash isn’t actually an orphan.
That man is Mash’s biological father.
He only arrived in America a few days ago and reunited with Mash right here in this church.
After that, he left again for a while, and only returned this morning to see Mash briefly.
Because he had caused a commotion in New York a few days ago by flirting with women, Mash gave him a thorough scolding, and he simply left afterward.”
“That is our relationship with the man, as well as the situation between us and him.
We aren’t particularly close to him.”
“If you’re saying he’s a terrorist, then we genuinely don’t know what actually happened.
We’ve never left New York, much less had any dealings with Tony Stark.”
After Amakusa finished speaking, he waited for Coulson’s response.
Coulson listened seriously, furrowing his brow as though deep in thought.
As a S.H.I.E.L.D.
agent, Coulson had dealt with all kinds of people.
In his experience, under normal circumstances, when questioned about their relationship with someone, most people would choose to deny having any connection, especially when speaking to strangers.
Yet Amakusa had immediately admitted that they did have a connection, which instead left Coulson uncertain whether he was telling the truth or lying.
“If he’s merely suspected of being a terrorist, we’re not going to get dragged into this just because he’s under suspicion, are we?”
“No, of course not.
It’s only a suspicion against him at this point.”
Coulson smiled and shook his head.
“I’m glad you’re willing to tell us this.
If I may, could you tell me the man’s name?
And Miss Mash, regarding your father’s current situation, do you have any objections?”
“He calls himself Lancelot.
As for him, I don’t care at all.”
Mash’s utterly serious answer made Coulson feel somewhat awkward.
“Thank you very much for the information.”
Standing up and straightening his suit, Coulson’s face once again displayed a smile.
“We won’t bother you any further for now.
However, we may still need to come and speak with you in the future, so we ask for your cooperation.”
“No problem.”
Amakusa saw him out with a friendly smile on his face.
