The reunion in Mar-Vell’s laboratory was brutally cut short.

Before Fury could even secure the Tesseract, the heavy blast doors at the far end of the lab blew inward.

Yon-Rogg and his elite Starforce squad stormed the room, weapons raised and pulsing with lethal Kree energy.Full novel: MCAU – SHADOW AND LIGHT — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The ambush was flawless.

Maria and Fury drew their sidearms, but the Kree technology was too fast.

Magnetic gravity cuffs shot from the Starforce operatives’ wrists, snapping around Maria, Fury, and the terrified Skrull refugees, slamming them heavily to the metal floor.

Carol’s fists ignited with photon energy, and she launched herself at Yon-Rogg.

But her former mentor was ready.

He ducked under her blast and slammed a heavy, specialized suppression disc directly onto the back of her neck.

The device whirred, injecting a neural-dampening frequency straight into her nervous system.

The glowing energy around Carol’s hands sputtered and died, and she collapsed to her knees, gasping for air.

“Take her to the interface,” Yon-Rogg ordered coldly.

“The Supreme Intelligence will deal with her.”

Two Kree shock-troopers dragged the weakened Carol toward the central console, violently hooking her into the mind-realm projection matrix.

Carol’s eyes rolled back as her consciousness was pulled into the Kree network, leaving her physical body defenseless.

Deep within her own mind, she was already fighting, desperately trying to summon a spark of her own power to fry the suppression chip from the inside out.

With Carol incapacitated, Yon-Rogg turned his attention to the prisoners.

A Kree soldier approached Nick Fury, pulling a handheld biometric scanner from his belt.

A beam of blue light swept over the one-eyed spy.

**”Species: Human Male,”** the scanner’s automated voice chirped in a cold, electronic monotone.

**”Threat level: Low to none.”**

Fury scowled from the floor.

“I take offense to that.”

The Kree soldier ignored him, moving the scanner over to the orange tabby cat wandering innocently near the dropped *Happy Days* lunchbox.

The scanner immediately flashed a violent, piercing red.

A blaring alarm echoed from the device.

**”Species: Flerken!

Threat level: Extremely High!”**

The Kree soldier panicked.

“Flerken!

Contain it!”

Three heavily armed shock-troopers rushed the cat, throwing a specialized energy net over Goose and clamping a heavy metal muzzle over her jaw before tossing her into a containment crate.

In Louisiana, Max Rambeau’s teenage soul had seen enough.

*”Alpha,”* Max commanded, his mental voice sharp as a blade.

*”Send them in.”*

Max projected his primary consciousness across the cosmos, slipping perfectly into the mind of the Shadowkhan lurking directly in Yon-Rogg’s shadow.

He didn’t just observe this time—he took direct control.

Tapping into his vast mana reserves, Max opened a portal from the Shadow Dimension right there in the Kree Imperial Cruiser.

He didn’t hold back.

He spent thousands of mana points in a fraction of a second, summoning dozens of Shadowkhan to flood the ship’s corridors.

In the central lab, the shadows pooling beneath the consoles suddenly boiled.

Yon-Rogg spun around, raising his blaster as the darkness surged upward.

They were dressed in traditional, pitch-black ninja garb, wielding sharp katanas and shurikens.

But their exposed skin wasn’t human—it was a chilling, ethereal **light blue**, crackling with latent magical energy.

“What is this?” Yon-Rogg demanded, firing a plasma blast.

The blast passed harmlessly through a ninja, who instantly dissolved into smoke before reforming a foot away.

Then, the true terror arrived.

Rising from the shadow directly in front of the hostages was Max’s personal vessel.

He had modified this specific Shadowkhan to serve as his ultimate avatar.

Beneath the dark hood, his skin was the same icy light blue, but his eyes glowed with a piercing, brilliant **golden light**.

And in his hands, he didn’t hold a katana.

He held a heavy, solid-steel **crowbar**.

Max let out a loud, maniacal laugh that echoed off the metal walls—a terrifying, unhinged sound that sent shivers down the spines of everyone in the room.

He launched himself at the elite Starforce squad guarding the prisoners.

*Thwack!*

Max swung the crowbar with devastating, mana-enhanced force.

It connected with a Kree soldier’s helmet, shattering the alien alloy and sending the trooper flying across the room.

Max moved like water, ducking under a plasma blast and sweeping the legs of another soldier, before bringing the crowbar down with a sickening *crunch*.

He was a whirlwind of violent, chaotic gamer energy, defeating the highly trained alien operatives left and right while cackling like a madman.

Nick Fury, Maria, and the Skrulls stared from the floor, completely bewildered.

“Are those…

space ninjas?” Fury whispered in disbelief.

Within sixty seconds, Max had entirely cleared the immediate area around the hostages, leaving a pile of groaning Kree soldiers in his wake.

He spun the crowbar in his hand, resting it casually on his shoulder as he walked up to Nick Fury and Maria.

He raised his free hand, pointing his pale blue fingers at the heavy gravity cuffs binding them.

*”Alohomora,”* Max commanded.

A pulse of invisible magic washed over the restraints.

The advanced Kree magnetic locks instantly clicked open, falling to the floor uselessly.

Fury rubbed his wrists, staring up at the golden-eyed ninja.

“Who the hell are you?”

Max tilted his head, the golden eyes narrowing slightly.

He leaned in close, borrowing a line he knew would absolutely shatter the spy’s worldview years ahead of schedule.

“Do you think you are the only organization protecting the world, Mr.

Fury?” Max rasped, his voice deep and echoing with shadow-magic.

Fury’s single eye widened in profound shock.

Max didn’t give the spy a single second to ask follow-up questions.

“Leave,” Max ordered, his voice brooking no argument.

“Take the Flerken and the cube.

Move!”

Fury scrambled to open Goose’s containment crate, ripping the metal muzzle off the furious cat.

Realizing the immense cosmic danger of the object, Maria hesitated.

She looked at the incredibly powerful, blue-skinned ninja who had just saved them.

“Take it,” Maria said, holding the open lunchbox out toward Max’s avatar for safekeeping.

“You’re better equipped to protect this than we are.”

Max reached out to take the glowing blue cube.

Before his pale fingers could even brush the Tesseract, a blur of orange fur leaped onto the console.

Goose let out a low hiss.

Suddenly, the cat’s jaw unhinged to a terrifying, biologically impossible degree.

A massive cluster of thick, purple, terrifying tentacles erupted from the cat’s mouth.

The tentacles shot forward, bypassing Max’s hand entirely, and wrapped around the Tesseract.

With a horrifying slurping sound, Goose yanked the cosmic cube out of the lunchbox and swallowed it whole, dragging it deep into her pocket-dimension stomach.

Goose let out a tiny, satisfied burp and began licking a paw.

Maria froze.

Fury stared in absolute, traumatized silence.

Max’s golden eyes simply blinked.

He slowly lowered his hand.

“Never mind,” Max rasped.

“Take the cat and run.

Two of my guards will shadow you to your ship.”

Two blue-skinned ninjas materialized beside Maria and the Skrulls, ushering them aggressively toward the exit.

As the group sprinted down the corridors to the Quadjet, Max shifted his focus to the rest of the ship.

Through his mental map, he coordinated the remaining Shadowkhan.

They swept through the Imperial Cruiser like a dark tide.

Every Kree patrol they encountered was swiftly disarmed, struck in their nerve clusters, and bound.

Max specifically directed a squad to the upper catwalks, where Minn-Erva—Yon-Rogg’s sniper and second-in-command—was setting up her rifle to pick off the escaping Skrulls.

Before she could even look down the scope, three Shadowkhan dropped from the ceiling, disarming her and knocking her completely unconscious with a swift strike to the back of the neck.

In less than five minutes, the entire ship’s crew was completely subdued.

Except for one room.

Max pulled his Shadowkhan away from the central interface chamber.

Inside, Yon-Rogg and a handful of elite Starforce guards were still standing around Carol’s comatose body, entirely unaware that they were the only conscious Kree left on the ship.

*I can’t fight this battle for her,* Max thought, looking at Carol through the eyes of a ninja hidden in the vents.

*She needs to break the Supreme Intelligence’s hold on her own mind.

She needs to shatter that limiter and claim her power.*

Max left the remaining Kree untouched, stepping back into the shadows to let the birth of Captain Marvel play out as the universe intended.

Back on Earth, the massive Kree strike force that had deployed in the Louisiana swamps was facing a very similar, humiliating defeat.

When the Kree drop-ship had taken off earlier, dozens of heavily armed alien soldiers had fanned out across the Rambeau property, expecting to find primitive human resistance.

Instead, hundreds of Max’s Shadowkhan had surged from the trees and the mud.

Operating under Max’s strict non-lethal orders, the phantoms dismantled the Kree ground forces with terrifying efficiency.

By the time the Quadjet broke free of the Kree Cruiser in orbit, the Louisiana field was entirely silent.

Every single Kree trooper on Earth was tied securely to the massive oak trees surrounding the property, stripped of their weapons, and knocked completely unconscious.

Max stood on his back porch in his toddler body, watching the bound aliens with a satisfied nod.

His family was safe, Carol was about to go Binary, and he had just introduced Nick Fury to the most terrifying organization the spy would ever meet.
