“Lili, you’re back.”
The moment Ji Xueli stepped into the house, her parents walked over and stared at her as if they couldn’t get enough of looking at her. They kept gazing at her dotingly, even as she changed her shoes and took off her coat.
“Mom, Dad, what are you doing?” Ji Xueli chuckled helplessly.
“You finally came back from abroad, yet you ran right back out tonight. Your father and I barely got to see you,” Mother Ji said, taking her arm and letting out a gentle huff.
Ji Xueli replied, “I just wanted to get reacquainted with things back home.”
“What is there to get reacquainted with? You are a daughter of the Ji family; who would dare say a word to you?” Father Ji remarked.
“Alright, I won’t step foot out of the house from now on. I’ll stay home and keep you both company, okay?” Ji Xueli coaxed them, acting spoiled.
“That’s more like it. Lili, why don’t we drop this idea of joining the entertainment industry? How about having your dad assign you to one of our branch companies?” Mother Ji advised.
It was not easy to make it in the entertainment industry. Even if she was from a prestigious family, she would still inevitably face online abuse and slander.
“I studied abroad for so long, so how can I give up so easily? Don’t worry, Mom, Dad, I know what I’m doing.” Ji Xueli shook her head.
She still wanted to pursue the path of a female celebrity. Being able to maintain a presence on television was an experience she quite looked forward to.
Mother Ji sighed, ultimately giving in to her daughter’s wishes. “Alright then. In a few days, we’re having a meal with the Ji family. Lili, you haven’t seen Yanzhou in a long time either.”
They knew that the two had dated in their youth, but since things hadn’t ended on a good note, they avoided bringing it up to spare her feelings, though deep down, they still wanted to bring them back together.
Ji Xueli was currently looking at her phone. Her friend request had not been accepted yet, so she only half-listened to what her mother said. “Mm, having a meal together.”
“Mom, Dad, I’m going upstairs to rest. I’m a bit tired.”
As they watched her walk upstairs while staring down at her phone, they assumed it had touched a raw nerve regarding her heartbreak.
Father Ji grumbled in blame, “They already broke up, so why bother having a meal together? Did you see how forced Lili looked? Does she look like she wants to eat with them?”
“Well, their breakup back then was so unclear, so they definitely still have feelings for each other. Isn’t it a good thing to take this chance to clear up the misunderstanding?” Mother Ji said, feeling bad as well but pressing on.
“Lili ran off abroad the very next day and hasn’t stayed in touch for so long. Their feelings have probably faded by now,” Father Ji argued.
“Let’s wait until they meet. You didn’t see how despondent Yanzhou was after he found out Lili had left. I really just couldn’t bear to see it.”
Completely unaware that her parents had nearly gotten into an argument over her downstairs, Ji Xueli was currently lying on her bed, staring at her phone.
Why hasn’t Duan Qingyu accepted it yet? Could it be that he hasn’t checked his phone? Should I send another one?
Ji Xueli bit her fingertips in a dilemma. She turned over with her phone, and just as she was preparing to send another friend request, a notification popped up showing that the other party had accepted it.
Excited, she instantly kicked her legs up. Looking at his plain black avatar, she clicked into his Moments without hesitation.
It was completely blank.
What’s this? Did he set it so I can’t see it, or does he genuinely not post anything?
Ji Xueli frowned.
Looking back at her own Moments, it was quite detailed, all filled with things about her acting studies during her time abroad.
Forget it. She sat up and sent her name over first.
He replied very quickly. He said, “Mm.”
Deciding not to dwell on it for now, Ji Xueli tossed her phone aside and went to take a shower. It was only the first day, so there was no need to rush. As the saying goes, “warm water boils a frog”, chatting on the phone for ages wasn’t nearly as effective as meeting face-to-face.
By the way, who did Mother Ji say they were having a meal with just now?
