The moment the whisper escaped her soul—

Everything changed.

The colossal crimson eye beneath the abyss widened slowly.

The Vein King laughed softly.

A pleased sound.

Ancient.

Victorious.

Black tendrils immediately surged upward from the darkness below like living serpents, slamming against the weakening chains surrounding the seal chamber.

The entire underground hall shook violently.

Silver wolves snarled protectively around Nyra.

Kael grabbed her shoulders instantly.

“Nyra.”

His voice sounded sharp with panic.

“Look at me.”

But Nyra barely heard him.

Something warm spread through her chest now.

Not comforting.

Burning.

Golden cracks slowly appeared across her hands.

The Hollow Flame.

The Headmistress’ face lost all color.

“No…”

Liora stumbled backward.

“She’s awakening.”

The whispers inside Nyra’s head became deafening.

“OPEN.”

“RETURN.”

“BECOME WHO YOU WERE.”

Pain exploded through her body.

Nyra screamed.

Golden fire burst violently from beneath her skin.

The chamber flooded with blinding light.

The Vein King roared in delight below them.

Kael immediately pulled her against him as the flames spiraled wildly around her body.

“Nyra!”

But the fire kept growing stronger.

Memories flooded her mind uncontrollably now.

Not fragments anymore.

Entire lifetimes.

A small village burning beneath black rain.

Seraphine standing alone among dead bodies.

A child crying beside her.

“You’re cursed,” the villagers screamed.

“Monster.”

Then silver wolves emerging from the forest.

Protecting her.

Choosing her.

Another memory.

Moonfang Academy newly built beneath moonlight.

Children laughing.

Kael smiling while hanging silver lanterns beside her.

“You finally made a home,” he whispered softly.

Seraphine laughing quietly.

Happy.

Actually happy.

Another.

Mira drowning beneath dark water while Seraphine screamed helplessly.

The Headmistress dragging Seraphine away violently.

“You cannot save everyone!”

Another.

Kael kissing her forehead beneath falling snow.

“Even if the world ends,” he whispered, “I’ll stay.”

Another.

The Vein King speaking gently from beneath the earth.

Not cruel.

Lonely.

“You and I are the same.”

Nyra gasped violently as reality slammed back into place.

Golden flames spiraled around her body uncontrollably now.

The chamber walls cracked apart from the pressure.

The silver wolves whimpered uneasily.

Kael still held her tightly despite the flames burning through his skin.

And for the first time—

Nyra saw fear in him.

Not fear of monsters.

Fear of losing her again.

“Fight it,” he whispered desperately.

Nyra shook violently.

“It hurts—”

“I know.”

The Vein King’s voice echoed through the chamber lovingly.

“You don’t need to suffer anymore.”

The black tendrils surrounding the abyss slowly reached toward Nyra now.

Not attacking.

Welcoming.

The Headmistress stepped forward sharply.

“Kael, move away from her!”

“No.”

Golden flames exploded outward again.

The chamber ceiling cracked violently.

Huge stones crashed around them.

The academy above them screamed with collapsing metal and breaking glass.

The Vein King was forcing the seal apart through Nyra’s awakening.

The Headmistress raised both hands.

Golden symbols ignited across the chamber floor.

A massive barrier surrounded Nyra instantly.

But the Hollow Flame immediately began consuming it.

The Headmistress visibly staggered.

Blood poured from her mouth now.

“She’s too unstable!”

Nyra could barely think.

The fire inside her soul felt alive.

Hungry.

Ancient.

And beneath the pain—

A terrifying feeling emerged.

Power.

She could feel every shadow in the mountain.

Every cursed soul inside the academy.

Every heartbeat.

Every fear.

The Vein King whispered softly:

“You were never meant to be human.”

Nyra’s eyes slowly began glowing gold.

Liora stared in horror.

“Her eyes…”

Kael noticed too.

And his expression broke completely.

Because he had seen this before.

The final stage before Seraphine lost control.

Nyra suddenly looked toward him.

And for one horrifying second—

She wasn’t Nyra anymore.

Golden eyes.

Ancient sadness.

Seraphine.

Kael stopped breathing.

“…Seraphine?”

She looked at him silently.

Like remembering him across centuries.

Then slowly—

A tear rolled down her face.

“Why,” she whispered brokenly, “…did you let me come back?”

Kael looked shattered hearing that voice again.

“Because I couldn’t let you disappear.”

The Vein King roared below them.

The chains snapped violently one after another.

The seal chamber trembled harder.

And then—

The Headmistress suddenly screamed.

Everyone turned sharply.

Black shadows had pierced straight through her chest.

The Vein King’s tendrils lifted her slowly into the air.

Blood dripped onto the glowing seal below.

The creature beneath the abyss laughed softly.

“You kept her from me long enough.”

Nyra’s eyes widened.

The Headmistress gasped painfully.

Yet even dying—

She looked only at Nyra.

Not afraid.

Regretful.

“Listen carefully…” she whispered weakly.

Kael tried burning the shadows away, but more tendrils erupted instantly.

The Vein King was too close to awakening fully.

The Headmistress coughed blood.

Then revealed the final truth.

“You were never meant to seal the Vein King…”

The chamber went silent.

Nyra stared at her.

“What?”

The Headmistress’ golden eyes trembled.

“You were meant to become one.”
