This matter was handled coldly and quietly, or rather it simply faded away without resolution.

Duan Ming’an was hesitating, Wen Ya had no intention of moving forward, so things could only remain this way.

Although her romantic prospects were not going smoothly, the renovation progress of Lin Xuehe’s house was advancing at an astonishing pace. Various renovation materials arrived one after another. With special permission from the big boss in hand, she walked in and out of the company during work hours openly and confidently, almost like a member of the royal family.Full novel: Mr. Not to Be Provoked — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

As Wen Ya left the office more frequently, Qiao Mu began to feel puzzled. The company rules were clearly strict, yet a secretary could come and go freely, sometimes without even clocking in.

“What are you thinking about?” Wen Ya waved a hand in front of her eyes, puzzled, then pointed to a string of numbers in the document. “This line is misaligned.”

Qiao Mu came back to her senses and immediately said, “I’ll fix it right away.”

Liu Yun, who had just come out of the chairman’s office, put down the documents and let out a soft sigh.

Wen Ya looked up at her. “What’s wrong?”

“Why is there so much work, and why is it all so annoying!” Liu Yun, already irritable because her child was sick and she could not stop worrying, slapped the folder and began complaining to Wen Ya. “This damn job, I can’t step away even for a moment. I’ve already lost several pounds this year.”

“I also…” The words reached Wen Ya’s lips, but she touched the double chin that was just beginning to take shape and could not bring herself to lie in the face of such obvious evidence, so she changed her words. “You still need to nourish yourself more in daily life.”

Seeing Wen Ya’s rosy complexion and increasingly plump cheeks, Liu Yun rolled her eyes. “Looking at you just makes me mad.”

Wen Ya made a face at her, checked the time, and stood up. “Alright, ladies, I’m leaving again. Call me if something comes up.”

“Just get out of here. Out of sight, out of mind.”

Wen Ya picked up her bag and walked away, swaying her hips in an exaggeratedly graceful manner.

After she had gone far enough, Qiao Mu hesitantly raised her eyes and asked Liu Yun not far away, “What has Sister Wen Ya been busy with? These past few days she hasn’t even been able to eat lunch with us.”

While continuing her work, Liu Yun replied, “Her? She has all kinds of miscellaneous things to deal with.”

“Ah, can I help?”

Liu Yun stopped and looked up at her. Qiao Mu immediately lowered her head with a flushed face. “Anyway, I don’t really have much to do…”

“Although she would probably be happy for you to help handle those extra tasks for her, you should first make sure you do the work she assigned to you properly. It’s better not to make mistakes.” Liu Yun smiled, giving a light but pointed reminder. “When you have time, familiarize yourself with the company’s products and personnel. It will only benefit your future work.”

Qiao Mu forced an awkward smile. “Mm, I understand, Sister Liu Yun.”

The weather was scorching. Wen Ya wore a small floral blouse and white shorts, holding a cold drink while standing on the terrace, sweating profusely.

“Move this a little over here. According to the blueprint, if you connect this hanging chair with the corner of the railing, it divides this angle right in the middle. Please move it a bit to the right.”

The workers, who had already moved it back and forth several times, were suffering. “Ah, little sister, what difference does it make moving it here and there? If it’s just a little off, no one can tell.”

“No, no.” Wen Ya shook her head like a rattle drum. “If I can see it, then Mr. Lin will definitely see it too.”

The workers sighed repeatedly. “We’ve never seen people as picky as you. Isn’t this practically the same…”

Wen Ya smiled brightly. “Thank you for the trouble. After you finish moving this, you two can go inside and have some drinks to cool down. Rest a bit before continuing.”

The workers had no choice. Complaining as they went, they still followed her instructions and completed the task. They went inside, but Wen Ya could not go in with them yet. She put down her cold drink, picked up the design blueprint, and stood under the blazing sun checking every point one by one, marking them down.

Lin Xuehe was extremely picky. If she did not pay close attention, she would inevitably get a harsh round of criticism from him during the inspection tonight.

Life was already difficult enough. She could no longer endure even the slightest bit of torment.

After supervising for most of the day, around four in the afternoon, Lin Xuehe actually came in person.

Since the workers did not work at night, this was the first time they had seen him. Being unfamiliar with him, and having already sensed his meticulous and demanding nature indirectly, the previously cheerful atmosphere of chatting while working vanished instantly, replaced by silence.

Lin Xuehe leaned his umbrella by the door and slowly walked closer.

Strangely enough, in weather of thirty-seven or thirty-eight degrees, he was still wearing a shirt and long trousers without a single drop of sweat. His skin remained fresh and dry, and he looked perfectly composed.

Wen Ya silently complained in her heart while stepping forward with a fake smile. “Mr. Lin, why did you come at this time?”

“To supervise the work.”

Wen Ya did not react immediately. “What?”

Lin Xuehe glanced at her. “To supervise you.”

Wen Ya: “…As if you’re paying me wages for that!”

After glancing at her, Lin Xuehe began examining her carefully from head to toe. Wen Ya felt a chill run down her spine, goosebumps rising all over her skin, and only then did he frown. “How did you get this sunburned?”

Wen Ya’s skin had originally been very fair, but now it was somewhat red, an abnormal thin redness that was just one step away from becoming a burn.

“Probably because I was standing outside just now.” Wen Ya had not yet felt any pain and did not care much. “But I don’t tan.”

Lin Xuehe once again felt that she truly lacked common sense.

“Go wash your face. Let’s stop here for today.”

Wen Ya wondered why he was suddenly being so kind and merciful, but since she could go back earlier to rest, she certainly had no objections. She nodded and happily walked toward the bathroom. Ten seconds later, a scream came from inside.

“Oh my god!!!”

Lin Xuehe let out an almost inaudible sigh and turned toward the workers who were pretending to stay busy. “Sorry. My requirements are relatively high. I can increase your pay by another ten percent. Please take extra care with the work.”

Ten percent was not a huge amount, but it was rare for the owner to voluntarily offer a higher price. The workers felt somewhat better, so the foreman stepped forward with a smile. “You’re too polite. Since we’ve accepted this job, we will certainly do our best.”

Lin Xuehe nodded. “Thank you for your hard work.”

After only a few moments of conversation, Wen Ya came out of the bathroom with a miserable expression. Why did she suddenly feel a slight stinging pain now?

She truly could not withstand any more harm.

Lin Xuehe glanced at the now bright red Wen Ya, picked up the umbrella leaning by the door, and said, “Let’s go.”

Only then did Wen Ya realize that he, a grown man, had actually brought an umbrella on such a sunny day, and when he opened it, it did not look strange at all.

In her heart she raised a tiny fist. Mr. Lin is amazing. No need for any ride sharing umbrella groups.

Compared with him, she herself had forgotten to bring one today…

Wen Ya looked up at the sky. It was all because carrying a sun umbrella when it was not in use was too tiring.

The black umbrella tilted slightly outward, and the shade beneath it covered most of her body. Wen Ya glanced sideways at Lin Xuehe.

Mr. Lin was still the same Mr. Lin with that indifferent, almost frigid expression.

No different from usual.

After getting into the car, Wen Ya clutched the seatbelt and asked cautiously, “Are you taking me straight home?”

“No, there’s somewhere else to go.”

Wen Ya looked at the sky outside and thought it was still too early to mooch a meal, so she probably did not need to be dragged along.

The car turned two corners and finally stopped in front of a pharmacy. Lin Xuehe’s luck was excellent, there happened to be a parking space, so he did not need to circle around.

A cool blast of air came from inside the pharmacy. It felt like heaven on earth.

Wen Ya shrank her shoulders comfortably. It was even cooler than inside the car.

Lin Xuehe tugged her by the collar and pulled her away from the air conditioner, guiding her to the counter. Under her faintly dissatisfied gaze, he said to the pharmacist, “Hello, she seems to have a bit of sunburn. Please give her some medicine.”

Wen Ya’s eyelashes trembled, and she slowly lowered her head.

The shop assistant in a white coat looked at her. “It’s a bit of sunburn, but not serious. Just apply some ointment and it will recover quickly.” He turned around and brought over a red and white tube of ointment. “Girls should pay more attention to sun protection. Sunburn hurts and it doesn’t look good either. Here, twenty one yuan.”

“Oh.” Wen Ya accepted it softly and was just about to pay when Lin Xuehe beat her to it.

She hurriedly said, “Mr. Lin, this one I should…”

“Work injury. I’ll reimburse you.”

Wen Ya’s eyes instantly filled with tears. “Mr. Lin…”

Lin Xuehe responded with a simple, “Mm.”

Wen Ya slowly raised two trembling fingers. “Then… can I take two more tubes?”

The doctor behind the counter suddenly felt the sharp gaze of the man in front of him, who clearly did not look easy to deal with, along with the astonishingly thick skin of the beautiful and generous looking girl beside him.

In the end, Wen Ya still walked out of the pharmacy happily carrying three tubes of ointment.

Truly blessed by heaven.

As soon as she got back into the car she started applying it. The smell of the ointment gradually covered the pleasant scent that had originally belonged to Lin Xuehe in the car, yet she did not notice at all.

Lin Xuehe quietly rubbed his nose without drawing attention and said nothing.

After finishing, she realized they were not heading home and asked with slight confusion, “Mr. Lin, are we going somewhere else?”

“To buy something cold.”

Since Lin Xuehe was even more of a foodie than she was, Wen Ya had gradually become used to his unexpectedly down to earth habits. She nodded happily. “That’s great. I happen to be a little thirsty too.”

When the car stopped in front of a Häagen-Dazs shop on the street corner, Wen Ya pressed her lips into a straight line with a blank expression.

No, he was still very far from being down to earth.

Perhaps because it was not yet the end of the workday, there were not many people inside the shop, only a few scattered customers.

Wen Ya stared at the menu, trying to find a cheaper ice cream.

To be honest, her ordinary taste buds really could not appreciate the nobility of Häagen-Dazs. Sure, there was a tiny difference, but the five yuan ice cream cones sold on the street were also delicious!

Sob sob sob, she did not want to waste money like this…

“Order something. This time it’s compensation for emotional distress.”

A heavenly voice.

Wen Ya looked up at Lin Xuehe’s calm and handsome face and said seriously, “Mr. Lin, may I give you a hug?”

An angel, I want to hug him.

Lin Xuehe glanced sideways, his expression slightly complicated.

“You smell too strong. I refuse.”
