After getting the new phone, Wen Ya felt as though most of her health bar had been drained, and she was filled with regret.
Why were phones so expensive now? Would the era of cheap knockoff phones really never return?
While metaphorically coughing up blood over the expense, Wen Ya continued shopping with the little rich girl Qin Keke. She was determined to spend until she became a penniless pauper, so that she could more deeply experience the tragically miserable life awaiting her in the future.
Let the future go to hell!
After lunch, Qin Keke held Wen Ya’s hand and blinked. “We have already had our fun. Now let’s go home and deal with the problem.”
Ah, the moment of reckoning had arrived.
Wen Ya rubbed her temples, still unable to keep being willful.
“Let’s go home, let’s go home.”
The residential complex looked the same as always. There was no subtle change just because she had argued with her parents.
The elevator was still painfully slow, and the button for the first floor was still worn smooth from being pressed so often.
Wen Ya took a deep breath and lifted the shopping bags in her hand slightly.
Talk properly. Be patient. If it really does not work, apologize first, calm her emotions, then discuss things slowly.
After preparing herself mentally, she forced a smile and opened the door to enter.
Both her parents were there. Not only were they there, there was also an extra person.
Yu Maosheng was facing the entrance to the living room and was the first to meet her eyes. He smiled honestly and generously. “Wen Ya, we meet again.”
Mother Wen turned her head and snorted lightly. “Only coming back now, you have made people wait for you for half the day!”
Wen Ya looked at everything in front of her numbly. She did not know what kind of expression she had on her face right now, nor did she have the mind to think about how to manage it.
She never wanted to embarrass her parents, so why did her mother always refuse to let her have an easy time?
Father Wen noticed the sudden change in his daughter’s expression, but he only watched. He had no solution and could not resolve it.
Wen Ya had never expected Father Wen, who was completely under his wife’s control, to argue for her. She simply used all her strength to restrain the urge to explode in anger, trying hard not to curse like a shrew.
“Hello. I will put my things away first, then come out in a moment.”
Yu Maosheng made a courteous gesture with his hand. “No need to hurry.”
Wen Ya turned and left immediately without giving him an extra glance.
Was this person really so satisfied with her? Yesterday things had already been said that clearly, so why had he still come here? Was there something wrong with him?
Wen Ya dumped all the bags onto the bed and grabbed her makeup remover.
Since that was the case, she would scare him off with her bare face.
After washing her face and applying moisturizer, Wen Ya looked at her sparse eyebrows, heavy dark circles, pale and haggard complexion, and the faint acne mark at the corner of her mouth. She felt very satisfied.
She even changed her clothes, pulling out a tracksuit she had bought who knew how many years ago and putting it on. Wearing her slippers, she marched toward the battlefield.
When she reached the sofa, she plopped down heavily, crossed her legs, and kept shaking them.
“Sigh, it really feels great to be at home.”
Mother Wen was furious but could not explode in front of the guest. She secretly pinched Wen Ya.
“Ow, ow, that hurts!” Wen Ya deliberately shouted loudly and exaggeratedly dodged her hand, acting as rudely as possible. “What are you doing? That pinch really hurt!”
This little brat. Mother Wen raised her hand to hit her, but Yu Maosheng suddenly laughed.
“Wen Ya is being her true self, please do not blame her. Actually, being relaxed like this at home is quite nice. It also proves that Wen Ya does not treat me as an outsider.”
Wen Ya froze. How strange. If Yu Maosheng had noticed what she was doing and said that on purpose, then since he could already see she did not like him, why was he still forcing things? But if he had not noticed, then his taste was really far too unusual.
Or was he deliberately trying to disgust her?
Mother Wen forced a smile. “She is sometimes a bit crazy like this. She is just fooling around, please do not mind.”
Yu Maosheng waved his hands repeatedly, looking at Wen Ya with an ambiguous gaze. “It is fine. I was the one who suddenly came to visit today. I am the one disturbing you.”
“Maosheng, saying that makes you sound like an outsider. If you have time, you are always welcome to come visit.”
“Visit often?” Wen Ya’s eyes narrowed. “Why would he come?”
Mother Wen could not bear it any longer and slapped her. “Wen Ya, do you have any manners? What exactly are you trying to do?!”
Wen Ya dodged slightly. The slap did not land on her face but on her shoulder. Even so, it was still a heavy blow, clearly a slap delivered in burning anger without holding back.
Wen Ya sneered. “What am I trying to do? Is it really so difficult for me to ask for a little respect from you? Fine, since things have reached this point, I will make it clear. This Mr. Yu is very outstanding, but I do not feel any spark with him. Our values do not match, we do not see eye to eye, and I have no interest in getting to know him further. Do you understand?”
“Why do you say you do not see eye to eye when you have not even tried interacting with him? Are your eyes growing on the top of your head?”
Both mother and daughter became agitated. Father Wen hurriedly stepped in to smooth things over and smiled apologetically at Yu Maosheng. “I am sorry, Maosheng. Wen Ya has been spoiled by us. Please do not take it to heart.”
Yu Maosheng gave an awkward laugh. He had not expected Wen Ya to tear off the mask so directly. “It is fine, Uncle. It is normal that Wen Ya does not have this idea right now. Please do not force her. Matters like this should follow their natural course.”
Wen Ya turned back, her expression icy. “Thank you so much.”
Those words immediately ignited Mother Wen again. With old grievances added to new ones, things spiraled completely out of control.
“Why are you speaking so sarcastically? Did Maosheng say anything wrong?!”
“Wasn’t it because you lied to me that I completely lost my appetite for this?”
“I am your mother. Everything I do is for your own good. Do I still need to flatter you?”
“For my own good? Then am I actually doing well?”
“That is because you never follow what I say! You always have to oppose me! Wen Ya, your wings have grown strong now!”
“Why can’t you reflect on yourself? Why can you never learn to admit your mistakes!”
Mother Wen trembled with anger, tears swirling in her eyes. “Fine, Wen Ya, you are really something. I was so worried about you last night that I did not sleep at all, and this is how you repay me? I gave you the best food, the best clothes, the best everything, and this is how you repay me?”
“Get out of here. I will pretend I never gave birth to an ungrateful burden like you!”
See, it was like this again.
“Every time you get angry, you say you do not want me anymore.”
Wen Ya wiped her tears. This time she nodded. “Alright then. Let it be like this.”
“Wen Ya!” Father Wen grew anxious. “Your mother is speaking in anger. How can you say something like that!”
“Because I am angry too.”
She had a temper as well.
After saying that, Wen Ya went back to her room, pulled out some clothes, stuffed them messily into a suitcase, and left. Father Wen tried to stop her, but Mother Wen grabbed him and pulled him back.
“Let her go! Ungrateful thing!”
Her fingers gripping the suitcase handle turned pale. Wen Ya took a deep breath and strode out the door.
“Uncle, Auntie, do not worry. I will go take a look.” Yu Maosheng stood up. Mother Wen wiped her tears and looked at him apologetically. “You have seen such a joke today. That dead girl is not worthy of you, she wasted your time.”
Yu Maosheng waved his hand. “It is fine. Wen Ya has her own ideas, I actually admire her. Uncle, Auntie, I will go check on her. I will call you later, so please do not worry too much.”
He went after her. Father Wen wanted to call out but stopped himself. In the end he let out a heavy sigh.
“Go on and keep making trouble. One day you will tear this family apart.”
Mother Wen felt extremely wronged. “How have I wronged her? Everything I think about is for her. I am just afraid she will suffer or be wronged. Maosheng is someone whose background we know well, his conditions are good in every way. How could it not work if they get along? She says I lied to her, but if I had told her the truth, would she have agreed to meet him?”
“If she did not want to meet him then let it be. Why go to such lengths?”
“She is already twenty-five. Right now she is still the one choosing others. In another year or two it will be others choosing her, do you understand? Look at how high her standards are now. She does not even like someone with Maosheng’s conditions. What will she do in the future?”
Father Wen slapped his thigh. “At worst we can support her for the rest of her life. So what?”
“What kind of talk is that? How can she not get married? If she waits until thirty and then wants to marry, will she not have to let those men pick and choose her? Even if she gets married, will she have a good life in her husband’s family?”
“Sigh, listen to yourself, this way of thinking of yours…”
“Shut up!” Mother Wen stood up, unwilling to listen any further. She went back to the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
That stubborn woman who had been domineering her whole life. Father Wen’s head throbbed painfully. It seemed this time he would still have to do the work of persuading Wen Ya.
When Wen Ya reached the entrance of the residential complex, Yu Maosheng caught up with her, his simple face still smiling cheerfully.
“You really dislike me that much?”
Wen Ya moved to the side and used her suitcase to block him. “It is not your problem. I worship money, I care about looks, I want to find a rich second-generation heir.”
Yu Maosheng shook his head. “Do not talk about yourself like that. I can see that you do not really care about money. As for looks, I should be at least above average. You definitely are not bothered by that either. To be honest, do you already have someone you like?”
There had been someone.
But now whenever she saw that person, it only filled her with anger.
Of course Wen Ya would not tell him that. To get rid of Yu Maosheng’s persistence, she nodded along. “Yes. So I have no interest in interacting with another man.”
Suddenly the suitcase would not move anymore. Wen Ya turned around and saw Yu Maosheng gripping the other side of the handle tightly.
What the hell?
“I can tell that the person you like cannot respond to your feelings. If that is the case, why make things so hard for yourself? Why not start a new relationship?”
Heh.
Wen Ya laughed in anger. “I really do not understand. We have only met once, and my attitude has been so clear. Why are you clinging to me like this?”
Yu Maosheng answered seriously. “I liked you the moment I first saw you. I could also see that you did not want to go on this blind date, but your attitude was still very good. Even when you were angry you still reasoned calmly and politely. Even now, in this situation, the way you speak still makes people feel comfortable. You are different from every other girl I have met through blind dates before. That quality of yours really attracts me. I do not mind anything else. I can even wait until you forget the person you like. I can wait.”
“Psycho!” Wen Ya yanked the suitcase handle back. “Satisfied now?”
Yu Maosheng smiled. “You did that on purpose.”
Damn it, what the hell!
Wen Ya exploded on the spot. “Get lost! If you do not leave right now I will drag you down with me and we will both be finished, you pervert!”
Life.
It was always this bloody.
Author’s note:
I wrote quite a bit about blind dates, but since I am at this age myself, it really is annoying.
