After quite some effort, Mingxi finally managed to send those two away.
But no sooner had those two left than two more arrived.
Lin Hongmei looked at her mother and asked, “Mom, didn’t you say we should ambush Mingxi somewhere with fewer people? How is this hospital lacking in people?”
The hospital was bustling with activity—there might be a shortage of many things here, but people certainly weren’t one of them.
Liu Cuihua retorted, “What do you mean there are too many people? It’s almost evening, and not many come to see the doctor at this hour. If we don’t catch Mingxi today, who knows when we’ll get another chance?”
Lin Hongmei pouted, thinking her mother was being biased. When she went to find Mingxi, it was said to affect her brother, but when her mother came, it was suddenly fine.
Mingxi sensed someone entering but didn’t even look up. “Where are you feeling unwell?”
“I’m unwell all over,” Liu Cuihua declared, sitting down as if she were royalty.
Doctor Liao and Doctor Xu immediately stood up to shoo them out upon seeing who it was.
Mingxi stopped them. “It’s fine. If you drive them out now, they’ll just come back another time. I want to see what they’re trying to pick a fight with me about.”
Seeing how familiar Mingxi was with the two doctors, Liu Cuihua felt instantly displeased.
“You little hussy! You have no sense of propriety! How dare you carry on with other men right in front of me? Do you even respect me?”
Mingxi turned and shot her a disdainful look. “I don’t respect you—I’d rather bury you in a coffin! Which coffin did you crawl out of? Your brain’s still bound up, isn’t it?”
“These two doctors are my colleagues. What’s wrong with me interacting with them? If you have the guts, tell your son not to interact with any female colleagues either.”
Seeing how sharp-tongued Mingxi was, Doctor Liao and Doctor Xu immediately felt relieved.
Her retorts were even fiercer than their own mothers’ at home. It seemed that during the two years Mingxi was married to Dr. Lin, she had been suppressed for too long and now couldn’t hold back at all.
Liu Cuihua scoffed and reached out to grab Mingxi.
But the moment she raised her hand, she was firmly restrained.
Yue Kai, who had been busy all day, had come hoping to spend some time with Mingxi. Instead, he witnessed this scene. Without hesitation, he twisted her arm behind her back.
Lin Hongmei stared dumbfounded at the strikingly handsome man who had suddenly appeared.
Mingxi stepped in front of her. “Hey, you’re drooling.”
Lin Hongmei instinctively wiped her mouth. She had never seen such a good-looking man—he was even prettier than a woman!
Though people often said her brother was handsome, this man was simply beautiful.
“C-Comrade, my name is Lin Hongmei. My brother is Lin Jianguo, a doctor here. May I ask your name?”
Lin Hongmei was too shy to look Yue Kai directly in the eye.
Mingxi pursed her lips and crossed her arms, curious to see how Yue Kai would handle the situation.
“What’s it to you what my name is? Haven’t you bullied Mingxi enough back in the countryside? Now you come here to harass her? Even a landlord’s wife wouldn’t be as unreasonable as you.”
Yue Kai shoved Liu Cuihua away, his face full of disgust.
The term “landlord’s wife” was not something to be thrown around lightly these days. Liu Cuihua panicked and cried, “You’re slandering me! Bullying an ordinary citizen like me—I’ll report you!”
Lin Hongmei quickly pulled her mother back and whispered, “Mom, don’t. I like him.”
Since arriving here, Lin Hongmei had developed a crush on practically everyone she met, but currently her favorite was the Yue Kai standing before her.
After clearly hearing their conversation, Yue Kai felt so disgusted he nearly vomited.
“Then go ahead and report me. And don’t talk about liking me – it’s disgusting.”
Seeing the disdain in Yue Kai’s eyes, Lin Hongmei’s tears immediately started falling.
Liu Cuihua unconditionally took her daughter’s side and began cursing at Yue Kai for being ungrateful.
Yue Kai: “Fine, keep cursing. For every insult you throw at me, I’ll take it out on Lin Jianguo later.”
“One curse equals one punch, ten curses equal ten punches. Go ahead, keep cursing.”
Yue Kai’s eyes were cold, his tone filled with menace. Though he had traveled from peaceful times, in this era he had crawled out from piles of corpses – did they think he’d be afraid of these two shrews?
This was the first time Mingxi had seen such an expression on Yue Kai’s face. She immediately went over and patted his hand to calm him down.
Yue Kai turned slightly and smiled at Mingxi, signaling her not to worry.
The mother and daughter were utterly terrified. They only knew how to bully the weak, but Yue Kai was no ordinary tough nut to crack.
Though they didn’t really know Yue Kai, they instinctively felt he would make good on his threats.
“Y-you dare hit my son! If you dare lay a hand on my son, I-I won’t let you off!”
Even stammering, Liu Cuihua couldn’t resist making threats.
Before leaving, the mother and daughter drank two bowls of water they found nearby.
They had heard that the Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacy brewed Liang Cha daily, and they weren’t about to pass up free stuff.
Watching their panicked retreating figures, Mingxi stroked her chin in thought.
“Yikes! Doctor Liao, that wasn’t Liang Cha on the table, was it?”
Doctor Liao: “Well… my child has been having some stomach troubles recently. That’s medicine I brewed to clear the bowels. Those two bowls haven’t been diluted yet – the effects might be quite strong.”
That such bitter medicine could be drunk without changing expression – these were tough women indeed!
Everyone present gasped, their minds already conjuring uncontrollable images.
Yue Kai quietly asked Mingxi: “So after drinking this medicine, will they… you know?”
Mingxi replied: “They’ll you know, and not only will they you know, they might even you know in public.”
That was anything but ordinary strength.
This proved that those who love taking petty advantages will eventually reap what they sow.
Liu Cuihua and her daughter hadn’t gone far before feeling discomfort in their stomachs, their insides gurgling like a battlefield.
Coincidentally, they ran into Zhao Qingling on the road.
Zhao Qingling had bought some pastries and was planning to share them. “Aunt Liu, Sister Lin, what a coincidence! I was just coming to find you.”
“I had some pastry coupons, so I bought two kinds I particularly like. I’m not sure if you’ve tried them before, so I wanted to bring some for you to taste.”
Liu Cuihua took a deep breath, desperately clenching her buttocks as she forced out a smile. “We’ve never eaten anything like this before, but we can try some. Since we’ve met on the road, no need for you to deliver them – we’ll take them ourselves.”
After speaking, she signaled Lin Hongmei with her eyes to take them.
Lin Hongmei didn’t dare move, afraid she might lose control. With no other option – since her mother wasn’t moving – she had to be the one to move.
Zhao Qingling’s smile stiffened slightly. She hadn’t meant to give all the pastries to them – she had intended to eat together with them.
If she gave it all to them, she would have nothing left to eat herself. She had been saving these pastry coupons for a long time.
Lin Hongmei took the pastries but noticed Zhao Qingling hadn’t let go, so she forcefully snatched them over.
