“Not bad.” Luo Yifan looked at the purple lightning flashing across his palm, the corners of his mouth curving faintly upward.

Mo Xiaobai, watching this scene, nearly drooled. You know that kind of man—handsome beyond reason, but with that perpetually cold expression? The kind that makes you feel his face is being wasted by how serious he always looks.

And yet, when that same face breaks into even the faintest smile, just a slight upward curve of his lips—it’s enough to make your blood surge, your nose tingle, and your heart bloom like spring. That—that—was how that face was meant to look.Full novel: My Apocalypse Merit System Is a Lucky Baby — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Sensing Mo Xiaobai’s burning gaze, Luo Yifan, who had been lost in the exhilaration of his new “toy,” immediately looked up.

There she was—mouth slightly open, staring at him like a hungry wolf eyeing its prey.

Instantly, he dropped the smile and flicked a spark of lightning toward her.

“Ah! What the hell was that for?!” Mo Xiaobai yelped, hair standing on end, every strand pointing skyward. She glared at him furiously.

“Oh, still not great at control. My bad.” The shameless man shrugged with a straight face.

“Hey, boss, boss! Look! I can fly!”

Between their tense exchange, a “birdman” suddenly swooped in—a man with actual wings on his back.

Yes, our dear “Wine Immortal,” Li Bai, had really become an immortal this time. His ability was beast transformation—eagle-type wings sprouting from his back. Combined with that baby face, the look was unexpectedly… endearing.

Unfortunately, since he had just awakened, his flying skills were, to put it mildly, clumsy. Within moments, he managed to get himself stuck in a tree.

“Help! Boss! I’m stuck!”

Luo Yifan’s lips twitched. His face darkened with exasperation. At that moment, he wished he could deny ever knowing this idiot.

“Try to control your inner energy. You can retract the wings when you focus.”

Seeing Luo Yifan’s expression turning pitch black, Mo Xiaobai kindly called out a reminder to poor Comrade Li Bai.

Because clearly, that shameless man had no intention of helping him—or maybe he simply didn’t know how. Hmph.

Soon, everyone had completed their awakenings. Once the initial excitement wore off, chaos erupted as people raced toward the showers.

The unfortunate one who had been hanging in the tree finally managed to retract his wings and was hauled off by Big Lin for cleanup duty.

When they all returned to the parade ground, freshly dressed, those who had awakened abilities stood tall, radiating pride and vigor.

Those who hadn’t were left staring in envy—pure, unfiltered envy.

Researchers from the Institute soon arrived to conduct data tests and record everyone’s physical readings. Each person’s stats from before and after taking the potion would be compared.

In total, out of the 1,000 participants, 98 had awakened abilities. The percentage wasn’t high—but still promising.

After all, with Huaguo’s massive population, the potential number of awakened ability-users would be enormous. And when the apocalypse came, more spontaneous awakenings were likely. Besides, there would soon be intermediate and advanced genetic potions to further enhance results.

Even those who hadn’t awakened powers showed their physical strength had increased two to threefold. Those who had awakened saw a jump of three to five times.

It seemed the potion they’d developed wasn’t exactly identical to the system’s version—but the results were still outstanding.

Among the newly awakened were all members of Luo Yifan’s team—oh, and Mo Xiaobai’s younger brother, Mo Chengyu, who had been assigned to the squad by Grandpa Luo after they returned from City B.

The “Strategist” (Fang Yu) had awakened a special-type ability: psychic enhancement. The exact subtype was unclear, but currently, his senses had sharpened—he could see and hear with uncanny precision, and his awareness of his surroundings was near absolute.

Big Lin had awakened a beast transformation ability as well—bear-type. When transformed, he grew over three meters tall, an absolute tank, with claws strong enough to crush a car. Perfectly fitting for his usual style.

Duke had awakened a special-type space ability—spatial blades, swift and lethal, impossible to guard against.

Mutou, on the other hand, had awakened one of the rarest mutated abilities—Darkness. Even rarer than lightning, it allowed him to instantly merge into any shadow, including those cast by other people.

Though seemingly non-offensive, in the hands of someone as deadly as Mutou, it was terrifying.

As for Mo Chengyu, he had awakened a mutated wind ability—an immensely powerful offensive element. He could conjure slicing wind blades and even large-scale tornado attacks.

Looking at all these amazing awakenings, Mo Xiaobai couldn’t help feeling a little jealous.

Outside their own district, the other military bases had also seen impressive results.

Out of 10,000 potions administered nationwide, 985 people awakened abilities. Most were of the basic elemental type—732 in total. There were 121 mutation-types and the rest special-types, including 5 healers.

Since they didn’t yet have machines to measure ability grades, the exact levels couldn’t be confirmed—but Luo Yifan and Mutou were estimated to be SS-grade. The Strategist, Mo Chengyu, and Duke were likely S-grade. Li Bai and Big Lin fell between A and B grade.

In short, a remarkably high awakening rate for one team.

As for what influenced awakening levels, even the Fuwa System couldn’t say—only that it was random. But Mo Xiaobai suspected there had to be underlying factors yet to be discovered.

After all, how else could Luo Yifan’s entire squad all awaken with such high rankings?

What she didn’t realize, however, was that it wasn’t just his team. Her entire family had also awakened—every single member. A 100% success rate.

After the awakenings, Huaguo moved swiftly.

Since abilities were still in the early research phase, the military leaders had already discussed establishing specialized Ability Training Camps once the results of the first potion were known.

The purpose was to help the newly awakened learn control quickly, while also allowing researchers to collect real-time data for study.

Thus, immediately after the initial potion distribution, plans for the training camps were finalized.

Each military region established its own division-level Ability Training Camp, directly overseen by the regional commander.

In the central district, near the main base, an additional Headquarters Training Camp was created—and its chief instructor was none other than Luo Yifan.

Researchers from the Institute would participate in all training sessions, ensuring constant data collection and on-site study.

As for the training itself, it would be straightforward—pure combat practice.

That was the unanimous decision of all the military chiefs. Only through battle could the newly awakened truly adapt and master their powers.

Time was short, after all.

On the fourth day after the first batch took the Primary Genetic Potion—June 1st—the Ability Training Camps officially opened.

At that point, there were only twenty days left until the apocalypse.

Mo Xiaobai, Luo Yifan, and their team had already thrown themselves into intense training.

After all, as instructors of the Headquarters Training Camp, they couldn’t afford to be anything less than exceptional.
