The red rain fell for an entire day and night.During that time, almost everyone in the world fell into a coma.Even many of the ability users began developing high fevers.
Fortunately, by the time ability users noticed the symptoms, almost everyone had already fallen unconscious. As long as they found a safe place to settle before losing consciousness, there was nothing to fear. They knew that upon waking, there was a high chance they would awaken a new ability—or experience a secondary awakening of their existing power. The only thing that mattered during unconsciousness was keeping themselves safe.
And so, the entire Blue Star was enveloped in an unprecedented silence.
In Safe Zone No. 1 — Nirvana Squad’s Villa
The moment Mo Xiaobai opened her eyes, she heard Little Fuwa’s excited voice:
“Congratulations, Host! You’ve successfully awakened your third ability — Water Element! From now on, you’ll never have to worry about running out of water again!”
As Mo Xiaobai stirred awake, the system interface popped up instantly. Little Fuwa, clutching a tiny handkerchief, began twirling happily in midair.
“Thanks, Little Fuwa. Let me feel it out first.”Mo Xiaobai looked helplessly at her overly excitable system—it had such a personality, what could she do? She could only sigh and focus.
Closing her eyes, she began to sense the flow of energy inside her body.
Within her spiritual sea, she could perceive not only her existing energy cores for Precognition and Mutated Wood Element, but also a new one — a Water Element core, slightly smaller than the other two.
The Precognition Core, likely because it was her first, sat grandly at the center like a queen bee.The Mutated Wood Core orbited close around it, while the Water Core circled along the outer edge, spinning gracefully around the central core.
It was… unexpectedly beautiful.
Whenever she needed a specific ability, she simply focused her spiritual power toward the corresponding energy core to draw upon it.She tried it out—it worked perfectly. The water she produced even tasted sweet.
“Little Fuwa,” Mo Xiaobai muttered while sipping the water conjured from her own ability, “if only I had a spatial ability like my mom’s, that’d be perfect! I miss the fruits from her space so much.”
“You still have a chance, Host! You haven’t taken the Intermediate Genetic Modification Serum yet. Although the probability is reaaally tiny,” Little Fuwa replied, already gnawing loudly on a piece of fruit that looked very familiar.
“Yeah, the odds are low—wait, hold on! Where did you get that fruit?!” Mo Xiaobai’s eyes widened.
“Oh, I’m a system, remember? I exchanged my Merit Points for it!” Little Fuwa rolled her eyes dramatically and kept munching.
“No way! Don’t try to fool me—that’s clearly from my mom’s space!” Mo Xiaobai crossed her arms, staring suspiciously at her.
“Tch. The universe is vast, Host. You still know too little. In the whole cosmic civilization, there are plenty of spatial owners like your mom—some even more advanced!” Little Fuwa said smugly, pulling up a tiny stool and crossing her legs.
“This fruit? I just traded for it from another system whose host owns a space of similar level to your mom’s!”
“Fine, fine! You’re amazing, Little Fuwa!” Mo Xiaobai said flatteringly. “So you systems can trade among yourselves, huh? How do your prices compare to those in the Merit Mall?”
“Well, it depends on our relationships!” Little Fuwa tilted her head proudly. “I get along really well with lots of systems, so I can usually trade cheap. And I can even get custom orders!”
“Wow! You’re the best, Little Fuwa!” Mo Xiaobai’s eyes sparkled. “Then maybe you could get me something too? I’ll pay you in Merit Points!”
“Hmm… depends on my mood,” Little Fuwa said, rubbing her fingers together slyly. “Besides, when you use the Merit Mall, I get a commission, you know?”
“Ah, say no more—I get it!” Mo Xiaobai grinned. “All my Merit Points are in your hands anyway—spend away!”
“You said it! Alright then, what do you want?” Little Fuwa instantly straightened up, looking all business—though her eyes spun mischievously just like Mo Xiaobai’s.
“I’m not sure yet. Why don’t you make some suggestions?”
“Well,” Little Fuwa said thoughtfully, “you wanted a space ability like your mom’s, right? I could try to get you one. But it won’t come cheap.”
“What?! You can exchange spatial abilities too? How? Like one of those awakening stones?” Mo Xiaobai was dumbfounded.
“Not exactly. This one comes from a high-level cultivation civilization—a crafted treasure, kind of like the secret treasures you read about in your fantasy novels.”
“That’s amazing! Then please, hurry and get me one!” Mo Xiaobai exclaimed eagerly.
This was a rare opportunity! She had long envied her mother’s spatial ability. If awakening one naturally was unreliable, then having an external artifact sounded just as good.
Humming cheerfully, she got up, washed up, and went downstairs.
By the time she entered the living room, most of the team was already there—except for Luo Yifan.
“Whoa, you’re all awake already!” Mo Xiaobai greeted happily. “So, who got new abilities, and who had a second awakening?”
It was one of those rare peaceful mornings—everything outside was being handled by the Commander, Elder Luo, and Uncle Lin, so the Nirvana Squad could finally relax.
“Hehe, I awakened a new ability—Healing Type! I’m no longer just the guy who can fly!” Li Bai was, as always, the liveliest of the bunch.
“Wow, that’s awesome! You already have great medical skills, and now you have healing abilities too! You’re officially our team’s support daddy!” Mo Xiaobai grinned, clasping her hands together dramatically. “Please take care of us from now on, Great Immortal Li!”
“Haha, no problem! With me around, even if you’ve got one breath left, I’ll make sure you live well!” Li Bai said proudly, cheeks flushed from excitement.
“Tch, you can only heal minor wounds right now. You’re not even as good as a repair potion—how can you brag like that?” Da Lin’s deep bear-like voice rumbled teasingly.
“Hey, you big oaf! I just awakened, okay? I’ll get stronger soon! It’s normal to be low on healing power at first!” Li Bai roared and lunged at him.
“I had a second awakening,” Chu Jue said calmly to Mo Xiaobai while watching the two bicker. “My spatial ability evolved. My spiritual sea doubled in size, all my skills strengthened, and I gained a new one—short-range teleportation. I can move freely within five meters.”
“What? Teleportation?!” Everyone gasped. “That’s broken!”
“It’s decent,” Chu Jue smiled modestly. “It’s only five meters for now. The range should grow as I advance.”
“My god! What kind of humble brag is this? ‘Only five meters,’ you say?” Mo Xiaobai gaped.
“Hehehe! So walls and barriers mean nothing to you now! You could rob a bank or sneak into a bathhouse!” Li Bai waggled his eyebrows, his childish face somehow pulling off an unbelievably sleazy grin.
He didn’t get to enjoy it for long—Chu Jue kicked him across the room.
“I had a second awakening too,” Lin Qing said simply. “I can now summon dark creatures.”He waved his hand, and a three-headed hellhound wreathed in shadowy mist appeared beside him.
“Holy crap! Are second awakenings all this overpowered?!” Li Bai’s jaw dropped in envy.
Mo Xiaobai was equally shocked.Chu Jue had gone from S-rank to SS-rank in one leap, gaining teleportation! And Lin Qing—already SS-rank—was now SSS, and could summon a massive hellhound that looked the size of a calf… and might even have abilities of its own!
“How many creatures can you summon? How long do they last?” Chu Jue asked, intrigued.
“One. Half an hour,” Lin Qing replied simply.
“They’ll probably increase with level,” Chu Jue reasoned.
Lin Qing nodded. That made sense.
“My second awakening expanded my spiritual sea about threefold,” Fang Yu said a little regretfully. “All my abilities were enhanced, but I didn’t gain anything new.”
“Come on, don’t pout! Your spiritual sea’s already enormous. It must be five or six times bigger than ours now!” Chu Jue rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, be content!” Mo Xiaobai laughed. “Tripling your spiritual capacity is already insane!”
Even the usually composed Fang Yu looked a little bashful.
“I awakened Water Ability!” Mo Xiaobai announced next. “So if you ever need drinking water, I’ve got you covered!”She conjured a small orb of water for each person at the table.
“Whoa! Is this another mutated one? It tastes so sweet!” Da Lin exclaimed in awe.
“Not sure yet—I’ll get it tested later at the research institute. Oh, right, where’s Luo Yifan? And my brother, Mo Chengyu?” Mo Xiaobai suddenly realized two people were missing.
“The boss hasn’t woken up yet,” Chu Jue said. “As for Xiao Yu, he’s cooking.”
Ah. No wonder it smelled good—she was starving.
“Xiao Yu also awakened a new ability—Metal Element. Combined with his Wind Element, it’s an amazing combo,” Chu Jue added.
“Wow! We’re seriously overpowered now! What about you, Da Lin?” Mo Xiaobai turned to look at him.
