Ethan chuckled, pointing at Chloe’s pale neck.
“Chloe, you’ve been practicing vocals too hard lately and messed up your vocal cords, right?”
Chloe blinked in surprise, sizing him up.
That was spot on.
She had strained her voice recently, though it had started healing.
But how on earth did he know?
“How do you know that?”
Ethan didn’t answer directly.
Instead, he looked into her eyes, trying to guess her plans for the day.
In his mind, an image popped up—it was Chloe, two hours from now, driving her sports car to visit someone at City Central Hospital.
“It’s not just your voice. I also know you’re heading to City Central Hospital this morning to see someone.”
Chloe stared, wide-eyed.
They’d just met—how could he possibly know that?
He continued, “This car—your mom gave it to you for your nineteenth birthday, right? You’re obsessed with its design, especially the curvy back end?”
As Ethan closed his eyes, more images surfaced—snippets from Chloe’s recent days.
“No way…” Chloe slowly opened her mouth in shock.
Her mom had only given her this car two days ago.
Even her best friend didn’t know.
Yet this guy had nailed every detail.
Beep!
Beep!
A honk from behind interrupted them.
“Alright, get in already—I believe you now.” Chloe glanced into the rearview mirror and waved him over.
Ethan grinned, pulled open the door, and hopped into the front passenger seat.
Sitting in a supercar beside a gorgeous girl—was this real life?
The subtle floral scent that filled the car almost knocked him off his feet.
“You’re really a student from Cloudshore Medical University?”
Ethan nodded, clicking his seatbelt.
“Yep. School of Traditional Medicine. Senior year starts after summer.”
She gave him another curious glance.
“So how exactly did you know all that?”
Ethan just smiled with a mysterious air.
“Let’s just say I have…
a unique sense.”
“Oh yeah?” Chloe narrowed her eyes playfully.
“Then I’ve got a small favor to ask later.”
Ethan was already trying to bond.
“Name it, I’m in!”
She nodded.
“I’ll tell you when we get there.”
She slammed the gas pedal, and the car roared forward.
In seconds, they were doing 120 km/h.
To a car lover, that engine sound wasn’t noise—it was pure adrenaline.
Ethan was hooked, already dreaming of owning something like this one day.
Still, he had to admit—what really stole the show was the girl behind the wheel.
She was rocking tight braids, a denim skirt, and legs that practically glowed under the sun—graceful and long enough to make any guy’s mind wander.
Ethan’s sense of smell had become freakishly sharp lately, and the fresh floral scent hanging around her only made her more irresistible.
If he had to rate her, she was a solid nine in his book—second only to campus queen Donna.
Boom!
With no speed cameras in sight, Chloe floored it.
The RPMs soared, and the needle jumped to 220 km/h.
The word “speed demon” couldn’t even begin to describe it.
Chloe was clearly loving every second—eyes sparkling, face glowing.
Meanwhile, Ethan, a first-timer in something this fast, squinted nervously and kept a close eye on the road ahead. All of a sudden, Ethan spotted a patch of water on the road, around four hundred meters ahead.
In his mind, a vivid image flashed—thirty seconds later, the sports car would hit the puddle at high speed, veer off course, slam into the guardrail, then spiral through the air before shattering back down onto the highway in a wreck.
Cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
He shouted, “Slow down!
There’s water up ahead!”
“I drive this stretch all the time,” Chloe replied casually, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips like she was some kind of pro behind the wheel.
Ethan felt a headache coming on.
He kept his eyes locked ahead.
The puddle was getting closer—fast.
Without warning, he reached out and covered Chloe’s eyes with his left hand.
“What the hell?!” Chloe yelped, startled, her foot instinctively tapping the brake.
As expected of this top-tier car—just one tap, and the speed dropped from 220 km/h to around 120 km/h in an instant.
“Look ahead!” Ethan pointed.
Chloe glanced forward and finally saw the puddle.
Because of the backlight, she hadn’t noticed it before.
It didn’t look deep, but hitting it at over 200?
The car would lose control for sure—no doubt.
Whoosh!
The car cruised right over it, sending water splashing everywhere, but stayed solid on the road.
“Thanks!” Chloe let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding, grateful as she nodded at Ethan.
In her mind, she couldn’t help but think: thank god I had him in the car today.
Otherwise, I might’ve just used up my last life.
She gave him another thankful smile.
Ethan grinned.
“Funny thing, the more experienced you are, the more careful you’ve gotta be.”
Chloe nodded in full agreement, flashing him a bright smile and her pearly whites.
“Then lunch is on me!”
Ethan’s stomach growled in response, and he gave her a high-five.
“Only if I get to treat you!”
Chloe shot him a look.
“Didn’t you lose your wallet?”
Ethan just laughed.
“I’ll treat, you just handle the bill.”
Chloe broke into a fit of laughter.
That little exchange erased a lot of the distance between them, and the car soon filled with light-hearted banter and laughter, echoing off the windows.
About ten minutes later, Chloe eased off the gas and pulled into a rest area up north.
She parked and led Ethan toward a western-style restaurant for steak.
After they’d eaten and were feeling satisfied, she tugged at his arm and gestured toward a nearby supermarket.
“Alright, Ethan—now it’s your time to shine.”
Ethan looked through the shop window.
“What’s going on?”
“See that glass box after the entrance? Lucky draw. Spend a hundred bucks, get one shot.” Chloe pointed to it with a wry smile.
“The owner says everyone wins something, and the more you draw, the better your chances of winning big. Sounded good, right? But last time I spent five hundred—all I got were three lousy towels. I was so pissed I almost flipped the place.”
Ethan nodded, scanning the setup.
The blacked-out box made it impossible to see inside.
A sign nearby explained the rules: 200 ping-pong balls total, four prize tiers.
First prize: 10 balls, one thousand yuan each.
Second: 20 balls, five hundred each.
Third: 30 balls, one hundred each.
Fourth prize: 100 balls—just cheap stuff like towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste.
After studying the layout, Ethan gave Chloe a confident nod.
“Ten first prizes, huh? Let’s go for ten draws.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow at how sure he sounded, but didn’t hesitate.
“You got it.”
“Welcome!” A plump woman beamed at the entrance, cheeks rosy, small eyes darting as she smiled at Chloe with a spark of recognition.
When her gaze shifted to the plainly dressed young man beside her, she momentarily paused—then gave a patronizing smirk.
Ethan didn’t like the look she gave him one bit but said nothing, following Chloe inside.
Chloe ignored the woman entirely and headed straight to the shelves, grabbing two cartons of cigarettes and heading for the register.
The total came out to 1,100 yuan, earning her eleven draws.
Receipt in hand, she led Ethan over to the black box by the entrance.
“Alright, Ethan—go win us that jackpot.”
