The guy in the white coat’s face twisted the second he heard that.

“Who the hell are you calling ‘old man’? I don’t care if you rolled in here in a jet—it’s my turf, my rules!”

Right on cue, four or five young men bolted out from the nearby car repair shop, carrying steel rods and wrenches, glaring aggressively.Full novel: My Assassin Wife Unlocks My Harem System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The crowd around quickly backed off.

“You guys better not lay a finger on me!” Chloe stepped in closer to the man, her eyes blazing.

“Hand over the four grand, or this won’t end well for you.”

“Whoa, she’s got fire!”

“She totally gives off rich girl vibes.”

“Yeah, this scene’s about to pop off!”

The group of onlookers buzzed, now looking at Chloe with growing respect.

“Chloe, isn’t this a bit much?” Ethan said gently, placing a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her down.

“It’s just four thousand.”

“It’s not just four thousand!” Chloe turned to him, fuming.

“We clearly won ten grand in that game, why are we only walking away with six?”

Ethan laughed and gave her a wink.

“We can go a few more rounds. Grab ten more first prizes and we’re good for another six grand.”

Her eyes lit up.

“Right!

Let’s buy more spins!”

“Sorry!” the man in the lab coat chuckled darkly.

“The game system’s down for maintenance.

Come back tomorrow.”

“What kind of crap excuse is that?” Chloe snapped.

“I don’t need excuses. What’re you gonna do about it?” he sneered, leaning his head toward her chest like he was daring her to hit him.

Chloe recoiled, gritting her teeth as she whipped out her phone.

“You’ll regret this.”

She had just pulled up her contacts when a woman nearby screamed, “Somebody help! My baby!”

Everyone turned.

Next to a van, a stunning woman was clutching a baby in her arms, sobbing.

A dignified white-haired man stood beside her with two sharply dressed women in black suits—clearly upset.

“Doctor! Doctor! Help the child now!” the white-haired man shouted at the guy in the lab coat like he was issuing an order.

Sensing the man wasn’t someone to mess with, the guy rushed over, but not before glaring back at Chloe.

“You’d better scram.”

But Chloe wasn’t paying attention to him anymore—her gaze was locked on the baby, panic in her eyes.

She tugged Ethan’s arm.

“Ethan, that baby’s choking—go look!”

Ethan was already moving.

He and Chloe rushed over.

The baby’s face was red, head flailing side to side, body twitching in distress—it looked bad.

“Must be something stuck in her throat,” muttered the man as he took the baby and placed her face down on his thigh, patting her back hard.

But the more he hit, the worse the baby got—thrashing more, and her face was turning pale.

The woman holding back tears was shaking all over.

“Please, baby, please be okay…”

“You have to save her!” said the white-haired man, sweat rolling down his face but expression still steady.

“She’s my granddaughter. Do whatever it takes—I’ll make sure you’re thanked well.”The man in the white coat was now dripping with sweat.

After patting the baby for a bit with no improvement, he panicked and handed her over to the beautiful woman.

“This is serious. You’d better take her to the hospital right away!”

Holding her child, the woman started crying uncontrollably.

“We’re in a service area on the highway. Do you know how long that would take?” The white-haired old man glared at the man in the coat, voice booming with anger.

“Dad!

Dad!” The woman suddenly screamed through her sobs, “She’s not moving!

Her little body is going limp!”

Everyone looked over.

The baby’s head drooped lifelessly. Get faster updates on g.com.

Gasps spread through the crowd.

Such a cute little baby—gone just like that?

“Ethan is a med student. Let him take a look!” Chloe dragged Ethan over to the duo in distress.

The white-haired old man and the woman both looked up at Ethan.

His simple clothes did not inspire confidence.

They exchanged uneasy glances.

“What’s this poor guy gonna do?” The man in the white coat gave Ethan a mocking look.

“Even I couldn’t do anything. You think he can?”

The woman hesitated, clearly unsure.

“She’s running out of time!” Chloe was already stomping her foot in frustration.

“Let Ethan try!”

“Let the young man handle it!” After one hard stare, the old man spoke with authority.

Snapping out of it, the woman quickly handed the baby to Ethan.

Ethan had already used his X-ray Vision earlier and seen the candy lodged in the baby’s throat.

He took the baby, laid her flat on the ground, gently opened her mouth, and with one clean motion, reached in and pulled out the sticky candy.

The woman, the old man, Chloe, and everyone else finally understood why the baby was choking.

Seeing that she wasn’t breathing, Ethan pinched her tiny nose and began giving her mouth-to-mouth.

All eyes were locked on him.

The woman knelt beside him, tears streaming down.

“Please, doctor, save her. I’m begging you…”

Chloe patted Ethan’s shoulder.

“Ethan, you got this.

You can do it!”

“Hmph, if I couldn’t save her, he won’t either,” the man in the white coat sneered, shaking his head.

“If they’d just come a minute earlier, I could’ve stopped this.”

The woman’s knees gave out.

She collapsed, sobbing into her hands.

“Would you shut up already?” Chloe turned, shooting daggers at him.

He just laughed coldly and walked off toward his makeshift clinic.

Ethan kept going—alternating between rescue breaths and gentle chest compressions, eyes locked on the baby’s pale face.

Then suddenly—

“Waaah… Waaah…”

The baby let out a big, healthy cry.

“She’s breathing!

She’s okay!”

“That’s a miracle!

She was gone, and now look at her!”

“I can’t believe he brought her back!”

Cheers broke out, people applauding in awe.

The man in the white coat froze in place, eyes wide.

“No way…”

“My baby!” The woman pulled her daughter into her arms, crying tears of joy and relief.

The white-haired old man’s eyes were wet, but his face beamed as he looked at Ethan and nodded in admiration.

“Ethan, that was amazing!” Chloe hugged him tight and planted a big kiss on his cheek like her own kid had just come back to life.Ethan chuckled.

“Chloe, not you again.

You’ve stolen my first kiss three times already!”

“That kiss is officially mine!”

Ethan froze for a second, catching a whiff of her sweet, flowery scent.

He was seriously tempted to pull her into a real kiss, but she’d already pulled back.

He sighed to himself—if you’re gonna steal my first kiss, can’t you at least go all in?

“Young man, thank you so much—it’s lucky we ran into you today!” The white-haired man gratefully grasped Ethan’s hand.

Ethan looked a little shy.

“Sir, I think it was fate…

me and the little one.”

The old man nodded, then asked, “What’s your name?

Where do you work?”

“He’s Ethan,” Chloe answered cheerfully from the side.

“A junior at Cloudshore Medical University.”

The white-haired man nodded again and turned to a suited woman nearby.

“Call the Principal at Cloudshore Medical. Tell him to take special care of Ethan from now on.”

That caught both Ethan and Chloe off guard.

Calling a university principal like that…

who is this man?

“Ethan, here’s my card. If you ever run into trouble, reach out.” The old man handed him a business card.

Ethan took it and, after glancing at the name and past title, nearly dropped it in shock.

“Keep it,” the old man said with a knowing smile and a subtle look, telling him to understand without asking more.

Ethan stashed the card quickly, still in disbelief.

No way…

this guy’s the bigwig from all those news reports?

Chloe definitely caught on, too.

She spun around and pointed at the man in the white coat.

“You! Get over here, now!”

The man had already sensed something was off.

He rushed over with a toothy grin, sneaking a glance at the white-haired elder, trying to suck up as best he could.

Riding in a subtle yet ultra-luxurious SUV, flanked by stunning bodyguards, every move of the old man screamed power.

You didn’t need a genius to tell—this man wasn’t someone to mess with.

If the white-haired man wanted, he could crush this little stall-keeper like a bug.

Once face to face with Chloe, the guy whipped out his wallet, chuckled awkwardly, and said, “Miss, it was just a joke earlier. Heh… here, four thousand yuan for you!”

He shoved the cash at her, hands shaking slightly.

But Chloe didn’t even take it.

She waved him off.

“I didn’t call you over for the money. Get your booth ready—we’re coming back to draw again.”

The man dared not say no; he nodded and laughed nervously before scrambling back toward his stand.

Ethan turned to the white-haired man and his daughter.

“The baby’s okay now, but please—no more candy or jelly, seriously.”

The old man gave a firm nod and shook Ethan’s hand again.

“We’ll be careful.

Take care, Ethan.

We have to hit the road.”

“Take care!” Ethan waved as they boarded their vehicle.

The white-haired man smiled back and waved, looking calm and kind.

Chloe grabbed Ethan’s arm just then.

“C’mon, let’s finish that prize draw!”

They headed off together, and the crowd instantly followed, buzzing with excitement to see what Ethan would win next.
