Mary couldn’t believe their crappy land would sell for a massive sum of 450.

With their own savings and money from selling their house, surely they could scrape by and buy a house in town.

Even if it would be small, it would be enough to fit in their family.Full novel: My Childhood Rival Fell for Me After I Became a Country Girl — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

All they needed were three rooms and a kitchen.

Their requirements weren’t much but they didn’t know the town prices so they could only hand over this problem to Elena.

When Elena heard their land could sell for 450, she wasn’t surprised.

She knew the villagers treated land like gold and it would be a golden opportunity to expand the village cumulative farming.

Even the house they would sell would go the village and they would most likely demolish it to add more to the farming area of the village or let it rest like that.

She wasn’t sure what option Village Head Luo would choose but it didn’t matter to her.

For her, getting a house in town wasn’t difficult.

But the problem was how to explain to her family.

She couldn’t just tell them that she had read the world’s story in a novel long ago and so she knew which house was the best in town and would even involve the female lead later on.

It was currently a haunted house for the past decade and she knew that wasn’t true.

But her plans were shattered the moment Thomas handed her 500 Luni, saying, "This is all I have, I hope it’s enough to pay the deposit for our house."

Elena hadn’t expected him to take out all his life’s saving alongside the price from selling their land.

It was really surprising.

But she understood and nodded warmly at her father before heading to town.

After walking for thirty minutes, she reached a deserted alley where stood a lone courtyard house with four rooms and an outhouse.

The nearby houses were more or less dilapidated and empty.

A house nearby was even sealed by police tape reading DO NOT CROSS! CRIME INVESTIGATION

Elena didn’t even glance that way.

She walked two streets down and knocked at the door of a rundown office.

A grumpy old man’s shout came from inside, "Glorian, check the door for me!"

The woman named Glorian hurried forward to open the door and was stunned to see a beautiful young lady.

For a moment, she couldn’t help but doubt if her husband had an affair outside with such a young girl.

But the doubt resolved itself as ’What would she even see in my grumpy old man? Even I don’t see anything in him worth liking for.’

"Hello, aunty. I’m here to buy the courtyard house two streets down." Elena briskly skipped to the main topic, not beating around the bush.

Glorian was stunned by the unexpected words, never expecting anyone to be interested in that haunted house.

Feeling a bit guilty, she was just about to explain to the girl about the horrors of that house when her grumpy old man fell forward with an obsequious smile, cutting her off.

"Miss, what an excellent eye for things you have! That’s one of a kind courtyard with four rooms and a built outhouse. It has all the details necessary for survival and is fully furnished! If you wish, I can show it to you right away."

"Sure," Elena nodded.

No matter what she had read from the novel, seeing was believing so she chose to see it first.

Anyways, she had 500 Luni from her father and she herself earned roughly 40 Luni everyday, so money wasn’t an issue.

And since the house was dilapidated and in disrepair, they would have to spend more money and whatnot.

It was in an area where a murder had taken place and Elena knew the murderer was out and about while a guy was made a scapegoat and whatnot.

But she couldn’t just go the police and tell them who was the real murderer.

She didn’t want their enmity.

A murderer was never simple.

She’d let the female lead solve that problem herself.

None of her concern.

"This is the house," the old man introduced hurriedly, afraid the girl would go away and ushered her inside.

The door wasn’t even locked.

Yet no one went in or out the house for years so it didn’t really matter.

The reason Elena chose this house wasn’t just because it was cost effective but also because it was only a ten minute walk from the best school in town and it would help Emma enroll in that school easily.

Why she was so sure?

Because she had been tutoring Emma for the past month and the girl had a knack for mathematics and english.

Their local language was english, it was thus an important language and she was inclined to teach it to Emma.

She had scored over 100 points in every English test in her high school.

By no means was she going to slack off.

Nor was she going to let Emma slack off.

Entering the dilapidated house, it had four rooms around 250 square ft each and a 100 square ft outhouse and a seperate bathing and washing area.

It was quite luxurious for this era.

Although it only had one outhouse, it was manageable as there was a yard in the center of the four rooms and enough space existed to add another outhouse.

Except for the house’s weak condition, it was quite good.

It seemed to have not been lived in for quite a long time.

The old man was himself at a loss for words as to what to offer in this house. He really didn’t know how to swindle this girl into surely buying this house.

But his concerns were unfounded as Elena was bent on buying this courtyard.

Not only because it would be beautiful once repaired, but also it would skyrocket in value in merely a decade or two and if she waited until the year 2020 then it might as well sell for millions.

"How much does the deposit cost?" Elena asked after looking around the house in satisfaction.

"400... No 300. Yes 300 Luni!" The old man was too stunned by her words and blurted out a discount of a hundred Luni because he really didn’t want to hold on to this cursed house for long.

Elena was surprised at the low price but then understood that it was this way because of the rumours and everything surrounding it.

So she agreed on the spot, handing over 300 Luni, "Let’s go register it then."
