In the two weeks that passed, Elena continued her routine and ended up earning over 560 Luni.

The only change was that she went every day to check on the progress of the courtyard house and met the rare few neighbours.

One was a slovenly young woman whose husband had been missing for a decade who served her in-laws dutifully.Full novel: My Childhood Rival Fell for Me After I Became a Country Girl — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Elena talked to anyone she saw amicably, unsure of the exact person who’d be the murderer.

She couldn’t risk offending a murderer, after all.

Though the novel talked about this event, she couldn’t quite place who was the real murderer as almost everyone was a suspect.

This widowed woman was the most suspicious as her husband was missing for a decade and she still stayed with her in-laws.

She was named Hori.

Except for Hori, Elena wasn’t much suspicious of others but that didn’t mean she considered others innocent.

She wasn’t going to risk it as her family would be living here from now on.

Two weeks had passed and the courtyard had been repaired, the walls raised higher to prevent thieves from climbing in.

The walls also had pieces of glass at the top to prevent intruders and thiefs.

She hadn’t minded the expense but she wouldn’t let her family know of it otherwise they would wince at the excessive cost.

Now, the courtyard wall stood at three meters tall without any foothold and were plastered smooth with white paint across them.

The rooms had light green and pink paint to accommodate little Emma and the rest of the family.

The reason Elena chose these colors was because their rural house was in the same scheme so she did it for the sake of familiarity.

When Elena arrived at the house, she saw it was beautifully done with the paint having been dried out and the house aired out.

It really was beautiful.

And without any reserves, Elena inspected everywhere and even the new outhouse and washing area.

She planned to install a washing machine, TV, radio, sewing machine and even buy a refrigerator.

Though she didn’t have enough money for now, she planned to earn it legally and get by.

She did have roughly a thousand yuan including her past two weeks earnings and everything included.

So she could place everything but it would be hard to explain to her family so she planned to purchase second hand stuff to convince them.

She had already looked into the stuff, buyers and closed deals with the sellers.

The day the house finished, she had already planned to have the stuff delivered.

The house was fully furnished so beds and wardrobes and everything didn’t need to be bought.

The total cost of the house was roughly four thousand Luni.

And given Elena’s nature, she planned to purchase it in full.

It would be worth millions down the line so it was well worth it.

She already had plans to expand her cooking and sell pastries and cakes to earn additional income.

She wanted the best for her family and wouldn’t let them suffer in the least.

She had learned all this in the city and planned to employ everything she could to earn money.

Although it was an expensive investment, she believed it was worth it.

She wanted to improve the family’s circumstances and didn’t hesitate to place the newly bought equipments in the house.

With that, she double checked everything and locked the house before rushing back to her rural home.

No one in the Bennet family had seen this house as they were all hesitant to leave the village behind.

But the moment Elena returned home and told them they were leaving, they quickly got to work.

Mary and Thomas packed the beddings, rations, grains and everything they could take with them without leaving a single grain of rice behind.

Elena’s mouth twitched at the sight of them packing but she stayed quiet the entire time.

She didn’t want to interrupt their rhythm and calmly played with Emma.

Sarah packed for both James and herself while helping Mary pack for Emma.

The two women were hesitant to leave behind even the doors.

Elena really wanted to shout at them but couldn’t find her voice.

She had called a truck and it arrived right on cue as she asked the driver to help load it and unload it later in town.

The driver hesitated but the moment he saw five Luni being handed to him, he couldn’t help but grin and got off, easily loading all the packed stuff.

He seemed used to this kind of work and was severely muscular, wearing only a tank top.

It would’ve put many people form the city to shame but he was just a truck driver so no one gave him a second look in the village.

Of course, they knew it was lucrative job to drive a truck but they couldn’t be bothered to give anyone a good luck connected to the Bennet family.

The family was one of the poorest and still sent their daughter to high school, forgoing their son’s education.

Ridiculous.

But the best part was their daughter was fake.

She was swapped at birth.

And the real one was a city Princess.

Everyone was waiting to see a joke but who knew she had such skills and effortlessly made money, to the point of convincing them to sell their land and house to move to town.

It was really absurd.

The villagers couldn’t help but want to watch a show as they gathered together.

They had all heard the Bennet family was moving today and were sure it would be quite a show.

After all, it wasn’t like there weren’t more Bennet family members.

There was one elder brother of Thomas and although their family had long since divided property, Thomas’s parents lived with the elder brother.

And so did Thomas’s nephew.

It was a family of four, living happily and looked down on Thomas.

But how could they accept Thomas moving to town while they stayed back in the village in poverty.

They had already arrived long ago and watched everything happen in front of their eyes.

Their eyes almost fell out of their sockets when they saw that damned girl hand over 5 Luni to a mere truck driver for loading stuff.

How outrageous.

It was meant to be theirs!

"You, you, you, where do you think you’re going?"
